New Scam: Moa Eggs for sale!
Garret K
I've been receiving reports of players trying to sell Moa Eggs for outrageous prices. While this has only been introduced today, it's already causing a riot. Someone put an end to this madness! I mean, you can obtain them for free.
Scammers have been spotted at:
Lion's Arch
Kamadan

-.o are you fricking kidding?
Redfeather1975
No, 100k was a price someone asked.
There are always scammers.

One guy in Kamadan was saying that these eggs will hatch you into gwen......
Another said (with a disclaimer) that it may turn into a new mini pet.....

What are the eggs for? And where do you get them?
evilseabass
This is not a scam. It is trying to make a profit on an item that may be unknown to the buyer...There is NOTHING wrong with that. Especially for players who do not own prophecies.
If players choose not to find out for themselves how to get one, thats their own problem.

And this image supports the idea that it might turn into a minipet: http://flickr.com/photos/mmognation/1047945257
Just like any Green item that can be obtained for free, and like any glob of ectoplasm that can be obtained for free, the Moa Egg can be obtained for free. Selling it is not a crime, just as selling a green weapon, altheas ashes, or minipet is not a crime.
Scammers are people selling who say it WILL turn into something. Selling it and saying you have no clue what the hell it will do is an entirely different story.
Also, please direct attention towards the guildwiki post for more information on it, speculation, and how to obtain it:

Neo Nugget
well its bad to scam but i guess you gotta know that it sometimes is very unrealistic.
Gwen wouldn't hatch from an egg lol.
Gwen wouldn't hatch from an egg lol.
Garret K
But it's way easier to obtain than a unique weapon or a Glob of Ectoplasm. Such items require work, but items like the Moa Egg, Gwen's Broken Flute, or Beautiful Pearl are simple to aquire. Why not sell a Red Iris Flower for 25k or a Flute for 30k?
All you have to do to get a Moa Egg is run outside of Fort Ranik...

KamikazeChicken
I've seen people selling them in Kamadan for 1k to people who can't get to Tyria. >.> It's not a scam to sell the egg, unless they're asking for 100k.
Garret K
I said outrageous, not something as low as 1k.

If I start shouting "WTS non-max dmg fiery dragon sword 100k", I'm not scamming. I'm charging an outrageous price. I'm selling exactly what I'm advertising, and if someone buy it - they are getting exactly what they expected.
If I go "WTS bugged fiery sword which will oneshot shiro, 100g", I'm scamming.
Mesmer in Need
LOL that was probably me messing around in keineng trying to sell one for 100k.
Healers Wisper
It is a Scam because player are advertising them as turning into minipets, I have a screen of this from acouple min ago
Alias_X
Healers, try not to make such broad statements. Please refine to something to the effect of: Many people ARE scamming, by advertising them as turning into minipets.
The new scam is not selling Moa Eggs, the new scam is falsifying the Moa Eggs for profit.

Not a scam.
Even if it were, how would Anet shut these things down in advance? They would have to pull all the legitimate quests & items that scammers use the items as scam-fodder (like "Cold One", enslavement stones, etc). There will always be scammers and the best way to deal with them is by your own vigilance.
I wouldn't buy one of these, though. Not for 100k. Not when you can get one for free......

This is disgusting, people trying to make money out of the ignorance of other players. We should promote good and cooperative behaviour (competitive behaviour is mostly for PvP) and a good spirit in the GW community, not this kind of greed.

...... Damnit.
I just started humming the Final Fantasy Chocobo theme.
Why is it that any mention of Moas sets it off in my head?
Let alone Moa Eggs.
Just what are they for anyway? (I can't access the Guildwiki page: my workplace filters it)

* name removed * is a scrammer -.-
He said : Moa egg = water djinn, and it hold 2 ecto in his hand noob scrammer
Mod Edit: Removed name as we do not allow names to be posted in a "bad light" - ie claiming someone is a scammer or a thief is not allowed.

Pricing something higher than it should be and selling it to a person who hasnt done their research, thats not scamming imo. That just shows how greedy they are.

As was mentioned before, taking advantage of the lack of knowledge of a buyer to sell him an item way overpriced may be unethical, but is not a scam. You can very well sell a non-max FDS for 100k, if you find someone stupid enough to buy it.
But advertising an item as something it isn't, that is a scam. You cannot sell your non-max FDS claiming it is a max weapon!

Not really a scam

Well, the current theory is that these eggs will produce Mini moas once all the required elements are gathered. I'll work on this tonight. Here's what I know so far...
Get a Moa egg outside Fort Ranik. (Post-searing, Prophecies)
Harden the Egg in Mourning Veil Falls (Kurzick Territory, Factions)
Get Nesting Material from a collector for 5 Skree Wings (Resplendent Maakun, Vabbi Nightfall)
Get a Volcanic Rock (Perdition Rock, Prophecies)
It sounds like a gift for everyone that owns all the games. There will probably be an item in GW:EN that's required for this as well. (Hmmmm...map pieces??)

HERES A QUICK THEORY (stupid caps lock)
Get egg (Regent Valley)
Infuse egg with magic (Morning Falls)
Get Nest material (5 Wings that have a <3% drop rate in HM !!)
Get form of Incubation like a hot rock (PR)
Await hatchling and feed on Juni Berries (use for the Branch of Juni Berries)

Now I wish I hadn't merched all those wings I collected while playing through NF.

Legitimate: WTS Moa Egg 100k
Illegitimate [scam]: WTS Moa Egg 100k (turns in to a mini pet and spwans ectos blah blah blah...)
Whether you sell it for 1g or 100k is irrelevant. Exploiting the ignorant is unethical. Lying is scamming.

If they say it turns into a mini-pet or (until we find if it really is) that its an ingredient to a minipet that is scamming
