Since minipets are now going to be customized, how about 2 things:
1. A trader to facilitate non-customized mini trade.
2. A mini-pet crafter. For say ecto, some glittering dust, and some stone or whatever you can craft new minis. Each one requires a quest of some sort to be able to craft. Better ones require more ectos, perhaps 1 ecto per rarity. This way we can make the mini we've always wanted and we can customize them and apply them to the HoH.

I dunno... I can see having the COPIES customized, but what if I want to trade the original?
I just don't like this whole customized minis thing. I realize they're trying to create a sink since most first-years are under 10k now, but I might want to sell or give away the one I bought/earned later on.

Well, to avoid exploits it should go like this:
1. One of your characters puts a minipet on display in HoM
2. The minipet becomes customized to this character
3. The minipet also gets unlocked to your entire account
4. Once unlocked, a NPC will make customized minipets to your other characters for a nominal fee
Concerning the customization of the original minipet, that's a conscious decision like with a weapon. You can either keep it uncustomized for a potential trade or customize it for other benefits (in the case of a weapon added damage, in the case of a minipet account wide access and GW2 unlock).

As it is now, I don't even want to THINK of putting my minipets into the HoM untill sometime near the release of GW2. I switch my mini's between my chars way to often to have any of them customized to one character.
Also, I don't think it would be to hard to do because they already have something pretty similar to this with event hats. Wait, why can't we put event hats into the HoM? Or can we? There are so many things with the HoM that, IMO, need to be changed...

As with Gucio earlier, I agree providing that the minis aren't annual series minis or other currently in game minis.
To add to the idea, perhaps the traders would all be different people. So maybe, a mini golem made by an Asura Golem Forger in training, or a miniature thorn bush made by a Canthan Bonzai gardener. For each one you'd have to do a quest, give the trader gold for his services, crafting materials for the miniature, and an ecto for the miniature's "soul".
