The problem here is that the implementation of HOM is terrible...
There's no customization (except where you have to customize your pets to ONE SINGLE toon) to display
What's the point in this if all the halls end up the same?
Anyone who has obsid or vabbi armor will have THE EXACT SAME armor shown in the hall.
There's no incentive to go to anyone else's hall - it'll just look like yours!
Anet has done the very very minimum here - lets hope they fix this.
It should have been designed way better than this.
On the other hand - good job anet on all the hype of HOM - now take that gun and shoot the other foot....

Do i have to spell out my point?
The 15k Gladiator armor had the SAME ARTWORK as the cheap Droks gladiator armor until July 2005.
This was 2 months after release.
If i know Anet, they will make sure its functional, release it, and then finish filling in the neccessary skins later on.

Guys this is a preview weekend, you know kinda like a beta test, lets see if the game functions and if servers can take it, are there any major bugs weekend. Hell you can't even go that far into the game. ANet has time to fix this, update some of their mistakes and get the community responce. it's not the end of the world. Give them a couple months to make the game all pretty after release and when they are sure everything is working on a large scale.
Anet tinkers with stuff, some good and some bad. State your opinion on how it is but dont form such hard conclusion, cause you know they will changes things, maybe not all, but GW:EN is not going to be the game you are playing this weekend.

Yeh, must admit I'm not actually that bothered by it. At the end of the day it's in and ready for GW2. I really can't see myself dragging random people in their to admire it anyway.
Just rather pleased I didn't have to fork out for that Vabbi miner's lamp.

here's the possible armors for core professions:
Armor Monument
Ritualists and Assassins will have 9 armors in there: Elite Luxon, Elite Kurzick, Elite Canthan, Elite Exotic, Elite Imperial, Vabbian, Ancient, Primeval, Obsidian.
Paragons and Dervishes will only have 5 armors in there: Elite Sunspear, Vabbian, Ancient, Primeval, Obsidian.
There is only one input for each Granite Citadel and Marhan's Grotto, even though you can purchase multiple armors from those locations.
When you rearrange the armors, it will change to a different profession.

I'd never clutter my inventory space buying the gloves for each armor for my mesmer just to show off pictures of other professions' armor...
Forget the HoM. I have a better way to immortalize my achievements - armors, titles, and minis. Screenshots.
Especially since I have no interest in GW2 anyway.

Really, really stupid. Almost as stupid as the utterly unbearable mini-pet customization. What's next? If I enshrine my beloved pet Moa, do I get a statue of a lynx? Not that I'd go enshrining my dearest pet that I've had since day one. After learning about the mini-pet deal, goodness knows what might happen to poor Redfeather. |
I don't consider the HoM all that important, but I was HIGHLY ANNOYED when I got a generic monument to "represent" my beloved Dune Lizard, Fluffy. He's been with my ranger since level 17, almost two years ago!
I'm just going to stop working on the HoM, since it doesn't reflect my actual characters, and I'm unlikely to buy GW2 at this point.
I'm here for the story (which is good) and the dungeons.
But it would have been nice if the HoM actual did what they said it did, and had statues of us and our ranger pets.

Ok Ok fine WTS HOM Tapestry 25k........ 10k?......5?......
Ok you all drive a hard bargain. WTS HOM TAPESTRY 500g!!!! AW CMON!!!!
Giving Away FREE HOM TAPESTRY IT"S FREE!!!!!!
Here you can have it. No I don't want it. Stop trying to give it back to me. I DON"T WANT IT. Don't you dare throw that back at...... AAAAARGH NOT THE FACE!!@!!!!
Morrowind implemented this far better than anybody could have imagined though. Use the FREE contruction set to build your own display hall as big as you wanted (or as big as before your computer crashed upon entering the room...), custom skins and armour, and you could purchase display dummies to wear and display your various collected armours and weapons. You could even display stuff on shelves, book cases, display cases all over the room, and guess what, they would be EXACTLY where you left them every time you re-entered the room. I was kinda wondering how ANET was gonna implement even a fraction of this customization into GW HOM..... I guess they didn't =/
Also note, this is JUST the preview weekend. HOM might not be finished... but then again what IS finished of HOM doesn't look all that promising. Customized mini pets ftl

No. My ele wears cool ancient armor, not a dervish bird costume or a warrior's mummy outfit. I really hope this gets fixed.

I have to say that a lot of the armours shown are a good selection!
The dominance of the warrior armours is a bit of a shitty decision though. I demand that the 15k canthan male mesmer be immortalized for all ages! Just to serve as a warning!
Superb decisions on the vabbi and fow sets though!

Why can't it just show the armor in the gender/class of the character presented at the HoM and the other statue, opposite gender/random class?

Also extremely stupid is the weapons display. It will only display so called 'great items'... Which apparently my ele and cryst swords are not, nor is my perfect r8 zod axe... But you know what is considered a great item.... Effing GWEN items. I don't care how good they look, nothing tops an ele sword for great... |
Weapon monument won't recognize any other weapons but GW:EN's.
The armor Monument is nothing worth seeing/Displays wrong kind and gender.
The Title monument is PvP only.
Minipet monument locks minipets to one character.
And Hero Monument needs hero armor.
The only thing that has impressed me about the preview is the visuals. The Art team as usual does a superb job and combined by Mike Obrien's planned enhancements to the engine puts frosting on top.
Paynt
You won't get a list of all the titles you have achieved. You will only see the Kind of Big Deal title track, and a big story about you saved Tyria/ Cantha/ Elona. Big dissapointment for me... Mabye they'l fix it once the actual expansion goes live.

Well, then. >_>
Thanks for the info, though. Always nice to hear that there are other rangers who don't feel pets are only good for IWAY. ^_^
I know exactly what you mean. My dear Redfeather is a moa, of course, and all moas are adorable, but I'm really starting to resent the Hell out of that darned spiky black chicken.
In my opinion, having the same RED moa (actually, he was a Strider) from Pre-Searing, day-one of GW, is far more impressive than grabbing that latecomer, overdressed, already-leveled, too-common, SMALL (Redfeather is almost twice as big) bird from Factions.
In other words, I have no interest in a statue of a random circus act, instead of my lifelong companion. Very insulting.
On the other hand, I luckily share your opinions on the Hall in general. I'm not all that excited about GW2, and am really looking forward to the story and dungeons in GW:EN, not the hall.
So, once again, I just have to shake my head at the terrible presentation, ignore the whole place, and go on with enjoying the plot.

While I definitely don't think things will change in the HoM between now and release, there is certainly time and opportunity to implement some of the changes that people are more... vocal about.
What it comes down to was that I was sort of operating under the assumption that I'd be able to put whatever armor/weapons/etc. I wanted into the HoM. If I want to immortalize my Vampiric 12^Enchanted Steel Daggers of Fortitude (+27), damn it, I should be able to!
Also, a question to the people who wear custom sets of armor (i.e., mixing and matching from different armor sets, not just colors): what does it look like when you try to put your armor in?

This better be a bug. Why the hell would I want Mesmer Armor in my Warrior's HoM? Even worse, I can't display my favorite weapon of all time? The first gold I ever received? My kickass Wingblade Sword? Dirtiest trick anet has ever pulled.

Am I the only one pissed that you have to have a full set of one type of armor?
My war uses a mix of 15k kurz, glad, primeval, and sunspear.
My monk uses a mix of 15k tats, kurz, and primeval
Cost just as much as a set, just as much work (if not more) yet I dont get anything cause I didnt want to be like the 15k wammo clone army (which has since then converted to the primveal wammo clone army) or the 15k tat monk clones.

as far as the pets, yeah I was pretty disappointed. I didn't plan on buying GW2 even before the preview (nothing against GW2 I just don't want to invest in a new ANet game, but am already invested in GW), but would've enjoyed seeing a statue of the warthog I capped in the northlands pre-searing over two years ago after release. He's pretty infamous in some circles lol. He went to Fissure and UW with me, finished all the campaigns with me (for the most part), pvp'ed with me, and even did the drok's run with me a few times (and got other ppl trying to follow along killed back when pets could block).
There's something most people complaining are missing though. ANet never lied about what was going to be in HoM. What they said is pretty much what we get. ArenaNet isn't Blizzard. They don't have a public test server or talk about the changes to the game prior to the changes going live (as opposed to initial announcements). ArenaNet is very skilled at saying the minimal, allowing expectations to rise, and then claiming none of that which was expected was ever promised. They are extremely good at that. It even seems like they go out of their way to make sure what they release conflicts with what is expected, things which most of us would take for granted. They talked about pets being immortalized, well in a sense they are. They never said (which one would reasonable expect) that they were going to 'personalize' your immortalized pet. It's more like 'you had Charm Animal and used it' rather than 'You had a Warthog, and a Black Widow, etc'. I guess the exceptions are what they consider rare pets. So the point is, don't say they didn't give what they promise because they did. They are either just devoid of common sense or spiteful. Who knows. Maybe they were the rejects from Blizzard (or maybe they were made they didn't get their way, I really don't know). However, you should expect absolutely no more than what they say. Don't assume anything, even if it seems like common sense. They have become the masters of selling stuff.
Other than HoM (which doesn't really affect those that aren't buying GW2 anyhow), GW:EN seems to be turning out awesome. I haven't had this much fun in GW in a very long time. Kudos to ArenaNet for developing a good expansion (at least in the preview). Thank you for not making it a 40 dollar Domain of Anguish...

Believe me guys, if this HoM thing is bug/unfinished, Anet would've come out and told us already, since it's clearly affecting GWEN sells right now.
Think about it. Which company would leave people angry about their game's main feature BEFORE the game comes out, if it's NOT TRUE?
But instead Gaile came out and responded to someone (in the complain thread) who praised the music.... How nice of her.
