Out-Of-Range Player Tracking Arrow

I was wondering if maybe it would be possible to add an arrow that points in the direction of a party member or ally that is outside your radar range. That way, if you get separated from your party, you don't have to demand a ping. Or, if an overzealous ally you need to protect runs off in the heat of battle, you can find him before it's too late.

The arrow, would be much like the quest arrow, only a different color. Obviously it will not track quests, but only players/allies.

It seems simple enough in theory, and I am surprised it has not already been added.

I prefer wondering aimlessly, or just straight leeching.

I forgot to mention how it would work. If there is a greyed out name of a party member or ally on your list, click on it. As soon as you click on the name (which is now selectable instead of disabled) the arrow pops up pointing you in the direction of the far away player/ally.

Simply follow the arrow as you would a quest.

Once the party member returns to your radar range, the arrow goes away (it does not turn into a star) and you switch over to normal targeting mode. There is no star on the U map in my version for programming simplicity, but I suppose there could be, depending on the coding requirements.

I think thats a pretty good idea, however for now I just have my party members ping the map

It's actually more important for NPCs than players.
Players I can ask them to ping, but I'd like a way to find out just where exactly did Rurik ran off to.

Were you afk or leeching?

Runs off? To where? The next mob? Group doomed for failure. Try H&H next time.

Realism in a game with fireballs and dragons... *rolls eyes*
A useful feature. Should definately be put in GW2 (as long as the combat system is set up similar to how it is now).

Some AFKs are legitimate, and with the lag in the game (especially over the preview event weekend) people are gonna get left behind here and there.

I do not believe this game had the intention of realism.

As was said, some AFK's are legitimate. Lag can also be a cause of getting separated, as well as being distracted with something while your group runs off ahead of you (i.e. not paying attention).

Leechers typically wont care for a ping or an arrow, since.... they are leeching. They have no intention to help in the first place.

Rurik has been known in the past (I think he still does actually) to run off without the player into a group of Charr. You see him getting hurt, but have no idea where he is. King Jalis Ironhammer, Kilroy Stonekin, Orozar Highstone (oddly all dwarves) are other example of this. And thats just in Prophecies. It is a known fact that NPC allies can and do run off out of radar range. It only takes a few seconds of battle distractions to lose them.

Having Heroes and Henchmen does not change the fact that it is still possible to lose your essential NPC Ally and not know where he is. In fact, it only makes it worse, since you cannot ask them "Did anyone see which way he went?".
