D: Why do they all drop purples?! I opened about... fifteen I think, and only two golds. T_T They seem to be the equivalent of 600g key chests, from looking at my retain %. I don't remember doing that badly before, am I just unlucky or are they dropping more purples than they should?

Sadly ur not the only one with that problem. I opened 10 chests and got only one gold drop(higlander blade) the rest were all purple. And the same goes for all the other guys in my guild.

At least the percentage of retained lockpicks is quite good.
However, that doesn't changes the crappy drop matter.

48% retain for me, yet 2/3 break. I had more luck in Vabbi.
Side note, this is so far, my only complaint about GWEN, so don't say 'oh great another whining thread' kthxbai.

Anyho... I've had quite the opposite, half a dozen chests with one lockpick - still unbroken - and all golds.
An alliance member has the same problem though... I'd say it's dumb luck.

it's called the 50/50/90 rule. Everytime you have a 50% probability of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you get it wrong 
But anyway, I've been noticing this too, I think they will take away the locked chests and replace them by normal chests when the full game comes out. I'm not wasting any more money on lockpicks anyway

Same problem. Only opened 3 of them so a smaller sample size. All were purple and crappy mods and skins. Plus 2 lockpicks broke. My necro has real good luck in NF and Factions, apparently not in EOTN....

All the chests I could find in Frostmaws (about 12)
All the chests I could find in another dungeon (CANNOT remember the name.) (About 5)
And any other chest I've seen around (15)
That is over 30, I've retained about 10 times and gotten probably 25 purples.

Watching my guild mate get Greater Highlander Blades etc always gold is rather annoying.

ive opened 8-10 chests...all lockpicks broke and all were all purples. not gonna open anymore for now.

About a 1/3 of my chests have been golds. That's much better than I expected and I'm enjoying the increased prosperity.

I took my warrior in at 11:30 or so on Friday when gwen went live and got about 80% golds from 12 chests. But today it's been all grapes so just more fodder for the 'too many people in the area' theories.

Scrap, you are just unlucky then. I ran experiments with sets of 10 lock picks, and see how many chests I could open. After 6 or 7 sets I was already convinced (using statistics) that you are not breaking more lock picks then expected so its just plain variability and there is no proof of breaking more lock picks then expected.

Pretty much everything gave me grapes, but dungeon chests in later parts of dungeons tend to give better loot
I assume that chests were nerfed for this weekend so that people wont just chestrun them to flood market with stuff that was supposed to be rare
(Remember Stygian chests that ruined DoA Golds pretty much forever?).

I hate having to pay 1.5K for lockpicks - the weapons are mostly the same stuff I've had in Desolation and Vabbi and the price is far higher. I've spent 30K on lockpicks, so far, for about 3 golds and 4 purples worth keeping. I've also had loads of rubbish runes. The part that really bugs me is the merch value is generally no higher for loot from a 1.5K chest than a 450g-600g chest. You just get 100g-200g back, in most cases.
Still, once the weekend's over, I'll be back to ignoring chests (except free ones), anyway. Need to save for the inevitable triple gold weekend, when they magically become worth using.

You don't have to pay 1.5K, you can buy them for about 1.25K from players.
As for luck, it sucks for me. None retained, all grape drops. About 5 so far.

Nothing of any real value will drop from the relative low level area we are allowed in now anyway. People trying to sell Highland blades for 100k+ make me laugh, people who buy them make me laugh harder. 10k weapons in a few weeks, if not less.
Pre-view dungeon greens = Grenth Footprint greens aka worthless once the excitement wears off.

26 lock picks bought, got 1 gold. Everything seems normal to me, since im always unlucky anyways, what i really hate is that they say its lvl 20 content and yet every damn purple i get is non max.

I've been getting alot of purples too, but I can't complain. I've been getting some nice golds like my req 9 dolyak prod staff, req 11 platinum blade, req 10 platinum longbow.

its just luck of the draw, plus these chests exist in NM and not just HM so the drops from them will be worse then your used to in HM.

Well, chest favour seems to have changed for me.
I opened a lot of golds+retained today, 10 picks lasted me atleast 20 chests.
And thats with 40% retain chance.
I defied the odds.
