Ranged attacks (Yay!)
MithranArkanere
Some facts:
#There is a generic attack skill type for melee:
*Strengh: Most attacks are 'melee' attacks.
*Tacticts: Most attacks are 'melee' attacks. Some of them require a weapon to work or fully work - like a sword or a hammer- though.
*Warrior unlinked: Melee attacks too.
*Scythe mastery: MANY melee attacks.
*Critical strikes: One melee attack. (Yay!)
#Some preparations already affect many attacks (like apply poison)
#GW:EN adds a new skill type: Ranged attacks
*They are a generic attack type for ranged weapons. They work for bows, spears, wands and staves.
So now there is a generic attack mechanic for ranged weapons!
Why not to make Expertise, Unlinked and maybe some sear mastery and marksmanship ones (ONLY A FEW, the ones that would be not much of a trouble) into Ranged Attacks like those:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ranged_attack
Any 'overpowerness' would be fixed by making some of their conditions ask for a 'while using a bow' or 'while using a bow or a spear' to prevent abusing of wand and stave speed and range. Like some tactics attacks already do.
- Here are the Expertise ones:
*Distracting Shot
*Point Blank Shot
*Zojun's Shot
*Oath Shot
- And here the Unlinked
*Called Shot
*Dual Shot
- And here attacks linked to titles instead of attibutes
*Triple Shot
*Spear of Fury
Won't ou like to give it a try? It would allow many possibilities and more profession combinations!

While some wouldn't make sense as general ranged attacks (Triple and Dual Shot), I do think the concept of a generic ranged attack is a good one.

Yeah, that's why I suggest only some of them. And other with conditions would require a type of weapon (bow, spear, etc) in order tho unleash the effect.
For example:
Distracting Shot
Ranged Attack. If Distracting Shot hits, it interrupts target foe's action but deals only 1...13...16 damage. If you have a bow or spear equipped and the interrupted action was a skill, that skill is disabled for an additional 20 seconds.
This would allow interrupting with a wand, but won't disable unles you use a bow or a spear.

This would make the skill work only with Spear and Bows.

See what I meant?

I totally agree. I just noticed that a R/P with spear and a pet is great in general PvE when I was makng Cartographer in Tyria. And yes, why there is ,,Melee Attack'', but not that many ,,Ranged Attacks''. Assassins, Warriors and Dervishes, for example, have some melee attacks - Whole list (not that small list) is here: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Category:Melee_Attacks. And why no ranged attacks? O_o Paragons and rangers SHOULD have them!
Stormlord Alex
As long as Distracting Shot stays confined to the Bow... That skill is strong enough as-is, without placing it on a character that can actually deal damage, too.

Of course some balancing shoul take, as I've said not all of them, just some, probably the ones less used by the own profession.
R!ghteous Ind!gnation
Not a bad idea provided all balancing issues are taken care of.

Can barrage become a ranged attack?
I like this idea, but adrenaline attacks should remain bound to spear mastery.

I liked the idea of the Ranged attacks, but as far as attacks like Triple Shot, Barrage, and Spear of Fury, those should probably stay as they are. I can't imagine one Paragon chucking three to six spears at a crowd of people. Spear of Fury is already set as a Spear Attack, but other adrenaline gaining skills like it coming in the form of Ranged Attack would be nice to see.
