What do you want out of the HoM?
Thunder79
Simple question...what is most important to you in your HoM?
Do you want to get the unlocks for GW2?
Do you want to show off to your friends?
Do you want to have a storage place fore armors, minis, and weapons?
Do you just want to see an manifestation of your accomplishments for your own ego boost?
Post your own....
Post what you want out of your HoM. Please do not rant (I've tried to refrain from doing that for my own below) about the current state of the HoM...simply state what you hope to get out of it. Feel free to rank your choices if more than one option applies. I just want this thread to show what people want to see in the Hall of Monuments.
My ranking:
-Accomplishments - I want to see what I've done over the 2 years I've been playing. Showing them to my friends isn't particularly important as my friends don't play this game. I primarily go solo. I want to see what I've done for an ego boost plain and simple. This is by far the most important thing to me in regards to the HoM.
-Storage - Things keep getting added to the game...and even though we got a good size storage upgrade...my storage is as limited as ever. I won't even talk about the number of mules I have. Weapons and armor should allow store and delete functionality. I should be able to store one there and create a single copy for use as I see fit, the copy would be customized to the character though. Minis, if stored in the HoM...should become customized to the account. They should act like festival hats. Once you store the mini you can create as many as you want for your own characters....all customized. If you want to trade them then you shouldn't store them in the HoM. HoM provides a unique opportunity to expand storage capabilities. I know Gaile has said the dev team has said they don't want it to be storage (gaile stated this on her talk page)...but I feel it is an opportunity to use a game feature to help players out with their storage that should not be passed up.
-GW2 Unlocks - This takes a backseat...I don't really care at this point in time. I'd rather see most of my accomplishments represented even if they don't unlock anything for me in GW2.

I just wanted something that could assure me that two years of playing Guild Wars wouldn't wither away with Guild Wars 2, something we (or I at least) was led to believe were so.
Then I log into Guild Wars Friday morning, and am greeted by the Hall of Monument-al grinding :S.
Now only the people who can afford to play ______ hours a week will get to keep the memory alive in GW2, whilst everyone else is forced to leave the things they did accomplish in the dust.
I just expected it to be more catering towards towards the non-elite and casual community, that way at least the entire Guild Wars population could benefit from the Hall of Monuments.

There should be a place for PVE titles.
You should be able to show green and gold rare skinned weapons.
You should be able to show level 20 heroes without armor upgrades.
You should see your armor when you put it in.
You should be able to show armor of which you don't have a complete set (for those 'combo' people).
It should be account based.
Simple. Six things they must fix.
If GW is about casual playing then why make a monument to grinding?

Well it is called The Hall of Monuments. Not The Hall of Casual Playing.
And is it just me who doesn't want Koss in his noob armour?

Hall of Monuments is an instace, you cant log on there so I'd think it would be a bad idea to make it about storage.
That having been said, the idea of a pet stable intrests me.
I would like my pve titles and some of my stats listed there, ie. deaths, hours played and such
The weapons display should include all chapters rather than just GW:EN, or if the display is only for unlocking weapons for GW2 it should items from all three chapter, ie. to unlock a fire staff you need 100 Hydra claws...
Armor posted on display should actually be a statue of my char with my armor and current equiped weapons.
Make these changes and I bet lots of people would be estatic !

I want a continuity. I want to be able to log into GW2 knowing I can go and visit a village and meet a descendant of Koss and Melonni. I want my new character to be able to gaze upon the statues of his predecessor in awe. Perhaps, he could visit an ancient armourer clan that would rememberbeing honoured to prepare a magnificent suit of armor for a legendary hero, abd pass a test or do a great deed for that would convince them to make a suit for the young hero.
I want a continuity beyond mere "Your great great grandfather was a big hero."
I'm all about the story, I guess

-Make it to where the mini-pets don't customize so the damn things can stay on the market, and it would solve the account based issue for this monument
-I can't find anything wrong with the heroes monument, but account based would be nice.
-Titles, every title should be placeable i this monument, don't just half-ass it and give the excuse that the kind of a big deal track makes up for it. There should be more achievements to list as well, say, quest chains, if we've done every possible quest in Kryta (or all of Tyria), we get an achievemnt to list, or if we've henched every mission in the game, just random things really. Oh, and make it account based if you can.
-Armor, I personally don't mind the fact that you have to have the whole set to put it in, as the HoM is for collectors. But, make it account-based! If these monuments are supposed to be revised onto our new gw2 character, what if we don't want the same profession as we had in the first one? We'd need different types of armor.
-Weapons, I don't think golds should be listed in, and I don't see how making it account based would make a difference if it doesn't customize weapons (if it does, it needs to, well not). But greens from all campaigns should be allowed in, they're sort-of like trophies, only being allowed the ones from GWEN kinda sucks. Account based still wouldn't hurt.
EDIT- I've read that only one pet can be saved in the heroes monument (gwwiki, not reliable atm, but yah never know) if so, that also needs to be changed

I pictured the HoM to be a place to show off my achievements.
It would have been nice to have a Zoo to store different Ranger pets, and take them out as I see fit (something most Beastmasters have wanted since the beginning).
The mini-pets being customized doesn't bother me, but they should be able to be stored in the HoM to eleviate the storage issue.
Right now, the HoM seems pretty irrelevant the majority of players out there. And that goes against Anet's own promise: "You can take it with you." Well, no, I can't, because besides pets, I have nothing else that can be entered into the HoM.
I guess that's what I most hate, not the fact that the HoM is "leet", but that it was not advertised that way at all. If they had told us up front, unless you have x, y and z you will not be able to enter it into the Hall, I think people would not be so pissed (or, at least they would know what to expect).

A HoM where i get to drop off mini pets and ranger pets so that once you drop them off, they are displayed. If you want them back you just simply select a mini pet/pet and it disappears from view in the HoM. Also i would of liked it to be account based, one monument for titles etc where i can visit with any of my characters and simply inscribe a max title on to the monument.
I really hope they sort out the title monument though, whats the point of having only PvP titles in a PvE area?? Still i notice Gaile said she didn't think the HoM will be full functional during the preview so hopefully some of the concerns people have will be addressed. Yes shock horror! a guild wars fan that actually listened instead of jumping off the deep end proclaiming the end of the world

I noticed that comment by Gaile too...the Hall of Monuments was functional...and they have stated what is there was pretty much the way they decided to make it. That reads like it is in a mostly complete form...which pisses me off.
To address some issues brought up:
storage - they are already storing information in their database about our achievements...they might as well use that for storage too...can't be that difficult to translate it to that.
pets - I've refrained from getting into beastmaster mode because I know I would only be able to use one pet...and I just can't restrict myself like that. To give you an idea of my love of the beastmaster "profession"...I was one of the loudest ones on the Star Wars Galaxies forums when they got rid of Creature Handler. This game could be great for that but they won't let it flesh out to what it could be.
HoM is a unique opportunity they can use to address several issues at once...but they refuse to do so....so far. I hope they change their mind.

the HOM is what can wait because it will not be used for a year or two
GWEN is coming out in days and needs all the attention now not later
GWEN IS A GAME TO HAVE FUN PLAYING
GWEN IS NOT A MONUMENT TO ME THAT I CAN GLORY IN WITH A BIT OF STUFF OUTSIDE

Well it isn't really what you want out of the HOM, it is more about what you put into to it. It's your personal space to show your accomplishments so it is up to you
I want to unlock as many heroes as I can, weapons and so on. I like how the building looks and looking forward to friday !

HoM is simply a gimmick to keep presently addicted gw players to remain addicted til gw2 comes out.
hours upon hours of grind to max some pvp or pve title just to obtain something, which im sure will be useless, in gw2.
if you want some type of narcissistic monument for all your achievments in-game, go and buy yourself a trophy with an engraving that reads "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals"*. hopefully thatll make you feel better.
as for me, ill continue to play because its FUN.
* the quote "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals" is apparently the max tier to the kind of a big deal title track.
edit. to the op, i dont want anything out of the hom cause i could really care less

I'm only putting "free" things into the HoM, so I'm not worried about it right now. I'm not buying GW:EN for the HoM; I'm buying GW:EN because HG:L doesn't come out 'til Oct. 31. Besides, I'll add all my miniatures and crap when GW2 is much closer to release. However, Anet needs to expand on the HoM sometime. A few things they might look into:
Provide storage for miniatures added to the HoM, ESPECIALLY if Anet refuses to remove the idiotic customization.
Show Heroes in higher-than-basic armor. I doubt this is possible right now, but it shouldn't be required to upgrade their armor, if it's not even shown.
Show Heroes at the BACK (larger) and Pets in the front (smaller), not just 5 things total.
Provide a better way of customizing what is shown on the monument, since they added limits.
Show your armors as YOUR PROFESSION. I doubt I'll buy armor for the HoM, but it'd be rather pointless to see an Assassin or something other than a monk.
Show more maxed titles. LG over individual protector titles would be fine, imo, but don't just make it KoaBD.

so you see...being able to see your accomplishments is part of the stated goal of the HoM. Besides...this game is molded by it's players...if we offer no input on what we want from the game...why should we play a game we don't enjoy? The purpose of this thread is to give people a place to express what they want to see the HoM become...because obviously right now a significant chunk of the playerbase is not happy with the solely dedication towards GW2 that it seems to have right now. bloodvayne

Provide a better way of customizing what is shown on the monument, since they added limits. I thought they did show in their upgraded armors? I remember them doing so (altho this was with sunspear/ancient/mysterious, no clue about Primeval) And yes, atm pressing the button to change their order on the list just moves them down the row, so one statue will always be between the same two statues, there needs to be a placement option. EternalTempest
The ability to *relatively* easily unlock all the pve related gw2 "unlocks" with out having to grind endless or be a millionaire.
People are forgetting this an an Unlocks stuff in gw2 as the primary purpose. Loviatar

Regarding the Hero's monuments and pets. I was able to post 3 pets that my heros had tamed, a bear, a wolf and a hyena. I was not able to post my chars pet there. Including a stable for player pets would be very nice addition, perhaps listing it with mini pet? Thunder79

They could have easily just stuck an NPC in the Eye of the North to record your accomplishments to unlock stuff in GW2...but no they included part of the purpose of the HoM was to display your accomplishments...some of us just want a lot more to be displayed than what can unlock GW2 stuff. And I don't think anyone is expecting Anet to drop everything and work on the HoM just before the release of GW:EN...no we are just expressing what we want out of the HoM so that they will eventually add it. We know Anet has a timetable and we know they are busy finishing up things for release. Red-Tide
1. I want my PVE titles showing. Had I known they were not going to be included I would not have spent the last few months grinding out titles. You said titles would be displayed, maybe you should have told it was PVP (LAME) only. Boo to you Anet!
2. Armor - Just showing where I bought it is just lame. "OHHH look everyone I grotto armor"! kinda sucks that it shows ele and ranger and not monk (which my main toon is) Doesnt feel like I'm showing anything off other than I once bought something in place X... 3. Miniatures - 11 at a time WTF!!!! I have 20+ minis, now I can only show off a select few, the stage is huge - UTILIZE IT! It also sucks how the mini names are always showing, ruins the viewing experience as there is all this text cutting off the bottom half of the minis. Mordakai

I wonder how many Hero pets we can immortalize in the HoM? As for your own pets, you can place a generic "Animal Companion" monument, the Imperial Pheonix, the Black Moa and the UW Spider. |
