GW and in-game advertising, possible or not?
Zorgy
Surfing for news on the net I found that:
In-game Ads for Some of Electronic Arts’ Games
http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_In_ga...s _07259.html
...and that:
http://www.massiveincorporated.com/#
...and that:
http://adsngames.com/
My 1st question is: what is Anet policy concerning GW and the future GW²?
My 2nd question is: Are you ready to play GW & GW² if Anet decides to introduce ADS inside?
My answer is NO. I will leave GW & GW² as soon as Anet introduces ads inside.
Your point of view will be appreciated.

EA is the biggest sellout in electronic history. I wouldn't worry too much about advertisements seeping into GW.

Possible, but no no no no no no no no.
Even Anet said no one multiple occasions.

I wouldn't mind in game advertising provided it's done so that it doesn't break the immersion.
In a modern shooter, a billboard advertising a product can even improve the game - it reinforces the idea of it being current.
In a fantasy game, you can't really do this...

Ea already uses ads in BF2(mainly 1 map) and BF2142, i have to say i dont care in the battlefield series it fits, the billboards are in towns ect.
It has good points and bad, good point is that intel sponsored a new map release wich they paid for(full of billboards and intel adds, good map though) and that after 2 years, while bf2 already lost all support from ea/dice. I dont mind actions like that, free content for adds. Bad thing is in 2142 they actually keep track(spyware) how much you watch the adds(creepy!), no so good imo. A lot of players cryed they wouldent buy 2142 because of the spyware most still did.
How this would be in GW i dunno, adds dont fit in the Guildwars world...... Plus i dont like the fact you pay for the game and get forced to watch adds. Feels like you pay double, or atleast they(gamecompanies) get double......
I dont think we can stop it

They should put advertisements on the reverse side of all textures - the side we don't see.

ANet has stated that they will not use in-game adds.
ANet has also stated that they have nothing against casual farmers.

At some point ANET will stop producing new chapters for GW1. Some time after that, and the GW2 release, there will come a point where the sales of GW1 chapters isn't bringing in enough money to pay the upkeep on the GW1 servers. So ANET will either have to run them at a loss or get profit elsewhere.
If it comes down to a choice between the GW1 servers closing (assuming I'm still playing guild wars) or some in-game advertising, I'll take the advertising if its not too annoying.
Now does anyone have that picture of advertising all over the Lions Arch fountain ?

I don't see why GW2 sales can't keep GW1 going, in the same way that GW:Nightfall sales can keep GW:Prophecies going.
