GW 2 2008?!!? not 2009/10?!!??

according to gamespot(the most trusted/visited and best gaming site) GW 2 will be coming out in 2008!!!!
The mont is TBA(to be announced) maybe late 2008 im guessing.
THIS IS VERY VERY exciting news for me and i CANT wait for it.

I'll tell you for sure when I get around to fixing my time machine and ending communism before it even began thus creating a time paradox as I stole this time machine from communists. Therefore, GW2 is never going to be released, as time is going to be shot into an endless loop.

which means itll come out late 2008, beta usaully come out 3-6 months before game does.

No, it says in my pcgamer magazine, that first had news of gw2, it was coming out in 2009/2010.

Also just because the beta is in 2008 doesn't mean it is going to be out in 2008.

Now you know why the Hall of Monuments is designed the way it is - one toon per HoM with endless multi-dimensionsal playing in order to get one toon through so you have something to do while GW2 comes out.

I don't really care as long as it comes out. Though I'd rather have a good game than a bad game that was rushed in creation.

yea, last I heard the BETA is scheduled to happen on the second semester of 2k8, so I'm not expecting it before january 2k9.

GW2 will likely be a more complex game than GW1, which needed more than one beta, and nearly a year between the first beta and release. If the first beta for GW2 is mid 2008, then a mid 2009 release is already optimistic. I just hope it won't be delayed to 2010, because that may be too big of a gap for current players.

Posted a thread about an interview with Jeff Strain. With separate PvP/PvE plus the "casual" World vs World, on top of designing a persistent game, it will probably be at least 2009. Plus, I believe he said 2 years, which would put it around the summer/fall of 2009.

GW2 news shouldn't really be talked about at all at this point. I thought it was a really stupid idea to mention it along with EotN in the first place. I understand why they did it due to how disappointed people would be but I don't think people realize that GW2 is in such early stages right now that any release date mentioned by anyone who'd be likely to be far off. I'd much rather prefer another expansion or two before they release beta. If they released beta in 09 i'd probably be happier because it would give them the much needed time to create more content in it.

The thing I fret the most is GW2 being the same game with the same engine just being slightly reworked. That's probably what we would be getting if a release was in '08.

If you happen to listen to EB games, Anets only Australian sales point, they say GW2 is coming out after christmas!!!!????

btw i wouldnt call gamespot most trusted. whichever game is advertising on their site usually get the highest score while that games competition that are better get bad scores

PCGamer says beta is scheduled for 08', with the game being released "a few" years later. So 09' is earliest probably, though latest will probably be 11' or 12'

Yeah, after recently buying Bioshock and finding out it wouldn't even run, I find it kind of amusing that Gamespot gave that game a fantastic score and an Editor's Choice award even though they never got any sound at all to work on their Vista machine.

actually if i can remember correctly there was a huge interview [ i think it was the 7 page one when they first described some of the mini games and what they mean for GWEN to Be]. .... w/ one of the Anet ppl that got posted on like Ign or gamespot.... [ im not going to go find the link and link it myself in this thread but]...... it was during press release info on GWEN .. during the interview they talkd of Gw2 and in the reply guy said that they had been workin on gw 2 since either between Factions and Nightfall or right after Nightfall and that so far they have been impressed with what they came up with... this was one of the same interviews where they talkd of meeting the customers needs and why they needed to scrap the current engine and we never saw gw4 ...so i guess in that mindset GW2 would have been in dev for about a yr now ... probably alot of concept but who knows, if i was sittin on something i knew everyone was paying attention too id be hush on it too...to surprise the competition, theres no doubt Anet knows that Gwen and the current chapters of GW will not hold many of us for 2 yrs and they probably could keep us entertained with some bonus material but over the next yr or so too many games and titles and some highly anticipated ones at that ... but maybe thats what they are hopin for that we move on just a bit so they dont have to deal so much with this current set up and can really then take more time at focusing toward gw2 and maybe gettin it together a bit quicker...

perfect example after GWen preview major let down to community overall was HoM now they have to rethink of how to incorperate more of what the community wants and the ideas and come up with some sort of compromise [ though we dont know bout the final product in all actuality] or else it becomes a bust so now more time has to come back to GWEN ... takes back time from GW2 even though they have seperate teams workin it ... the idea was after GWen they could have all hands on GW2 as long as there wasnt alot to refix .. so i guess if we dont ask for much nerf this buff that type stuff or fix this and scrap that ...maybe 09 but we may be our own nail in the foot on when its released. i d say april 09 around the time the original release of Guild Wars 1...4 yrs later. and if u go back to the original GW release it took a few yrs to finally get it live and out of beta ... from original press release to live servers..

Anything is possible really but until Anet says it then yet again it is all speculation. I dunno about Gamespot being the most trusted. They seem to be biased towards certain companies namely Blizzard. Blizzard can make a mmo with stick people and Gamespot will tell you its the greatest thing since sliced bread or chocolate.

Well GWEN is out now so that means both GW teams can now abaddon the game and work on that solely. Given ANET beta tests at release time and will leave stuff out to get a game out, does this shock you?

You are making an inapplicable comparison. Moreover, you apparently don't understand what an "operating system" is. Apple did not build the Darwin kernel from scratch, nor did they take just six months to test it. Most of the applications in the rest of OSX underwent point upgrades, not complete rewrites.

DirectX may be a terrible framework for its Windows-lockedness, but calling it "crappy" is hardly rational. Compare to OpenGL. In the up-coming 3.0 version, they dropped the mutable object model for atomic (and asynchronous!) object creation. Guess which framework notably has the same object model. Honestly, I don't think the graphics engine for GW2 will take the most time. There isn't new ground to be broken here. Neither will the network subsystem, which is already solid in GW1. What will take forever is building the game that uses the subsystems and repeatedly play testing it. I don't think ArenaNet are running blind. They have a good inkling of what Guild Wars players like and what they are capable of building. But a mere six months from beta to release is still wishful thinking.
