GW:EN on shelves today.
Kiruna Del Ray
I was under the belief that the game was to be released on the 31st. Most new media is released every Tuesday though I understand.
My question is - if someone bought the game today and installed the game today...would they have access to the new areas? Can't imagine buying a game and receiving a message stating you won't have access to it for another three days

You can install it, but you have to wait until the 31st to gain access because that's when the servers for it go live.
WinterSnowblind
Nope, the game doesn't go live until the 31st. You can buy the game and input your key, but you won't be able to do anything with it until the content goes up.
Diablo???
That was the issue that Gaile was concerned about, many people who have purchased the game already are confused why they cannot access the content yet.

This has happened before in some stores. What I want to know is whether it is likely to happen here I'm only working half a day today. Getting a call after I leave to say my order is in will not make me happy
I'm an hours drive from the city centre And I was silly this time in ordering from a store near work, rather than a store near home. I'm pretty sure EB only holds orders for 24 hours
I'd rather like the code on my account a decent amount of time before the game goes live to avoid crashing out when trying to enter the code.

I think EB games (and gamestop) have their butts covered by this issue.

IMPORTANT INFO: Servers allowing gameplay for Guild Wars: Eye of the North go live at 12:01 a.m. PST on Friday, August 31. However, orders will begin shipping on Tuesday, August 28. Depending on the shipping method you chose and/or your location, you may receive the game prior to this time. While you may install the game prior to the server “live” date, you will not be able to play until that time. If you do receive your game early, it’s a great excuse to put on a party hat and rig up a disco ball to lower from your ceiling at precisely 12:01 a.m. PST on Friday, August 31. Happy Guild Wars Rockin’ Eve!

Three GameStops, two Best Buys and a Wal-Mart... all visited, none had the game out yet, just empty slots or placeholders. I guess the brick and mortar stores are sticking to the schedule while their online counterparts are jumping the gun.

Not necessarily RS. I have known EB here to flaut the rules both ways, releasing early and late, regardless of what time the game arrives. Mostly though early releases are for those who have pre-ordered. They give them the game because they don't want the stock sitting around the back when the game is "officially" released. The reason -at least EB has- is that their policy only covers holding the game for a VERY limited period of time, no more than 24 hours. If they get rid of the ordered games early, anything left sitting on their back shelves on the day of release is fair game to all and any customers.
Normally, and I say normally here because we all know it doesn't always work out the way it should, stores received stock about 2-3 days prior to release, as much as 4 or 5 if release is the end of the week. There is usually an agreement which doesn't allow them to "sell" the game "publically" before release, but this doesn't include pre-orders which are technically already paid for and not "public" sales. Occassionally there are terms and conditions which stipulate that it is not to be "distributed" until release - in which case pre-orders can't be "distributed/collected" until the release date either - this is normally only for really really big titles.
Anyhow, my point is that distributing pre-orders before release EB gives more than the stated time for pickup to the customers - which frankly I prefer, allowing them to sell all remaining copies on the actual day of release without breaking contract - which is basically what a pre-order is.
The moral really is just ask if they are in Most of the time you can talk sales people into anything - especially if you point out that the game can't actually be played until Friday anyway.

I find it bizarre that I still can't buy the game in the in-game store. Please let us do this prior to the 31st! Given the issues the store has had at other high-volume times (like when the GWEN pre-pre-order went live), I'd really like to get it ordered before release so that I have no trouble getting in on 8/31.

except that today is the "ship date" and stores dont get their copies til the day after - street date is the 29th (tomorrow) according to every store ive been to. (as well as what my pre order call told me for my sons copy (get him the code from the store so i get the bos and other stuff - then get my own copy in the game store so i get the Bonus Pack... ) (and if the store doesnt release early, i'll just use my box copy and buy 3 char slots (which i need more of anyway) )

I got an automated call from EB/Gamestop saying that I can pick up the game tomorrow at my local Gamestop anytime after 12!
When I picked up the preorder box three weeks back, they told me that it they may not get it in till the first of September.
Good news anyways...

Good news anyways... Yeah, same here. I'll be going to pick up my copy tomorrow afternoon, then.

They say 12:01am PST on thurs night/fri morn... but many people are expecting a store crash heh... either way either try to get it thenext morn or EXACTLY when its released to have less chance of getting stuck with a broken store. (Earlier means less time fo them to break before you get there, later means more time to fix em after). I personally believe the store will be fine, just explaining what many others seem to be worried about.

i reserved a copy of GWEN last month ..and today in the evening , they called that the game has arrived and i should pick it up tomorrow , so ill get it tomorrow but i wont play it till the 31 .

Also got the Gamestop call saying it'll be in Todya at/before noon. Of course i still plan to call first as i'd rather not waste a trip out to the store for nothing.
Particularly since it sounds like others got the same message of "wednesday before noon" so i want to be sure my store has their shipment before i waste my time/gas to drive there.

I know mine is available for pickup tomorrow afternoon, sadly it's a three hour boat ride and in another country. It'll be picked up Friday.

Is there a way to find out when the game will be available in stores at, lets say Belgrade, Serbia, since other games were available in Belgrade few weeks after the release.
sassoonssamson
i remember reading somewhere that the in game option to buy GW:EN will be online when the retail copy hits the shelves
Mordakai
Considering GWEN goes live Thursday night (or 12 AM Friday morning, whichever way you want to look at it), I don't think selling the Game on Wednesday is premature.

Heading to EB right now to pickup my pre ordered copy

What else is new with the brick-n-mortar stores and their online sites? They've been doing it that way all the time, with early in-store displays and their evening/midnight madness for the hottest games on the planet (and I'm sure they'll do that for the Halo 3 release).
Did I mention my copy is scheduled to be delivered by UPS today?

I recieved my copy of GW:EN yesterday (Poland, pre-order from CD Projekt - local publisher).
Of course you can add the key to your account just now, but game goes live on Friday (can be sooner, like in Nightfall case).

Just curious with those adding the keys.
I know it wasn't mentioned being that it's just an expansion but still wondering, is there anything new using /special or /bonus or anything like that with GWEN?
****
I guess I'll be heading on down to BestBuy tomorrow. No point going today even IF it's there, can't do anything with it.
I checked yesterday out of curiosity and their online store says 30th, so I'm assuming in store as well.
They did that with Nightfall. Release date was 27th, they had it the 26th (60$ CE )

**** No new /bonus with GWEN itself - the preorder had 3 weapons though.

The game shipped to stores without a street date. I got it yesterday from Target because I saw it on the desk and asked.

Got my pre-order copy today from ebgames, I was hoping it would let me in early Just happy I dont have to go late on friday anymore.

People (including myself) have been asking for them to sell the game early in the online store but Gaile has said the legal guys at NcSoft/Anet said it's not possible to do that in the Guild Wars Online store because of something having to do with releasing a game before it's release date...even though the actual release isn't until they enable it on the servers. I asked her about why it's any different with them when I can place a fully paid preorder with a retail store for just about any game. We're not asking for early access...we're just asking them to allow us to buy the code early.
They've made it clear though that they won't be releasing it early in the online store but that it will be available when the game goes live.
And yes I asked for an early release because of the lag I experienced during the preorder pack release.
They've also made it clear that no one should be in the GW:EN areas until 12 midnight on Thursday Night/Friday Morning. So even if you get your key early...you won't have access until they flip the switch on the servers. At least you have your key though...there's no guarantee the store servers will hold up...at the very least I expect lag and timeout errors...worst case is a store server crash which will leave many of us without keys till they get it working again.

I got an automated call yesterday saying that GW:EN would be here before noon today and boy oh boy was I a happy camper! I'm glad that the date changed because it was originally shipping out on the 31st and they said I would be able to get it on the 1st so I would miss a day but not anymore! Can't wait till Friday!!!!!

Shipping without a street date means the stores can put it out whenever they get it. If that's the case and they are relying on the lock on the servers to keep people out till "release"...I don't see why they can't sell it early in the online store.
If it weren't for the promotion I wouldn't be buying it in the online store...I'd probably have it in my hands by now.

Got a voice mail on my cell yesterday but I'm not sure if it's Ebgames calling me to pick up my copy because I can't access my voicemail cuz i forgot my password and i dont know how to change it

Could I get a quick heads up as to whether or not any Aussies have managed to get their hands on a copy? I was going to limit my social plans somewhat but if I'm not going to be able to get it till next week there is little point.
EDIT: See NZ thread, we've delays... again

I'm picking it up tomorrow regardless if EB has my preorder in. It's payday tomorrow and I'm broke till then.

I saw a message last night that said the online store will be down tonight from 6:00 PST to 9:00 PST IIRC. I'm guessing they are adding the GW:EN option to the store and at 9:00 we will be able to purchase it so it is installed prior to go live. Maybe they are doing this because retailers won't get too upset since they close around 9:00 anyway where I live on the west coast. This is just speculation on my part of course. All I know is that with nightfall and factions I believe, they actually went live early somewhere around 11:30if memory serves me correctly.

I have a question about that....
The little card has three sets of characters on it which seemed awfully short to me to be an access key, and it doesn't fit in the "Add a key" boxes either (way too short). What am I supposed to actually input, because that 12 character string sure doesn't appear to be it
(Bought Factions and Nightfall through the in-game store, and bought Prophecies a looooong time ago... don't know how this newfangled "paper" works)

My mum tried to get me a copy as a surprise this morning. Apparently some fat guy in GAME came behind her in the line and snatched it from her, saying "That's npt on sale until tomorrow." Bullshit. IT WAS ON THE SHELF AND DIDN'T SAY DISPLAY ONLY! The guy was very lucky I wasn't there. If he took the approach of a purse snatcher near me, he'd end up with a broken wrist.

I would be glad to ANET if they would allow GW:EN to be purchased at the online store since today...
Im wondering tomorrow morning at 7:00 am, how painfully slow will be the access to the Online Store when all player wiling to buy it...continuing to click

and so on...
btw, now the store is allready down...so take your ticket and wait for the infinite queue :-/
