Hi,

I am one of them dudes that like to farm and play solo, I have 5 playing characters wich I mostly farm with..No im not rich.

Story goes I have 9 gemsets for sale and WTS in Kamadan, dude says hell take 5 of them. BUT WE MUST TRADE OUTSIDE. ???

Alerts:
Does not negotiate on price.
Wants to trade outside.
He says I must drop the gems do he can see they are not duped.
Me/A = Return or Swap (a skill witch make you swop places), so now you far from where you left your stuff for him to look at.

Sorry Dude I come from a coutry that perfects scams, I'm trained to see you.

So luckily having played GW before I know a few skills and know when I drop something he can pick it up.

I never got scammed but I am SURE he tried his/her best.

Dont be stupid GW players.

Also it would be nice for people to post how they recently have been scammed, not sure if there is a post..if there is might need to become sticky.

Also, don't look at the /a no more, Ebon Vanguard Escape is a new skill, which does the same thing.

Eesh, hadn't thought of that. Not that I would ever drop anything on the ground anyway (unless my pack was full and I drop a white to pick up a gold or something...)

Had this happen to me a few days ago, when selling a runic sword. I knew what he was doing but went along with it anyway. I dropped 1g but he didnt go for that. Although I got a screenshot and promptly sent it to a-net and added him to my friends list. A few seconds after he logged out I got a e-mail from plaync stating the issue was investigated and proper actions taken. I haven't seen him log back in for a few days now

This scam has been on the Guildwiki fansite for ages.

To add to that, you cannot tell if something is duped by dropping it on the ground no matter what anyone says. The only way to find that out is to look at the item code, which I doubt anyone here can because you need acess to Arenanet's database.

And finally, the simple solution is this. Arenanet has a very secure trade system. Use it, or lose it. Anyone that requests not to is probably trying something underhanded.

I think it would be fun to search these people out, then drop a quest item, and report them when you ss them porting to you

No, doesnt mean anything could just be gone for a few days, but doubt he waited a few hours to put me on ignore list since I never pmed him after he attempted to scam me. Just posted this to incourage people to report scum like this, since from what I can tell A-net took the proper action of banning the person.

If they actually did anything it was probably give him a 24 or 72 hour suspention.

The only time I ever ask people to go outside is so I can see the item they are selling equipped.

I don't know what any of the spears or swords look like (except for the really expensive swords like ele swords), so I always ask them to equip it before I buy.

I actually had some joker recently try to pull the scam where they keep cancelling the transaction and try to get the seller to accept quickly so they get tricked into accepting a small amount of gold. I thought that scam went out with Factions it's so old.

The newest part of the scam is that you no longer need to be a /A, Ebon Vanguard Escape, does the exact same.

Which is a new development. Short protection only ever use trade feature

I had somone trying to scam me once. I popped into LA one day a long time ago. A person was adverting" Can double your money pm" Right then I knew something was fishy so I wanted to see what he was up too. I pmed and said what are you talking about. He told me to grab some money,no more than 50k, and lets go out to explorable. I said ok. We went out he led me over to some monsters. Told me to die. Then he rez'ed me with Unyielding_Aura. Then he told me to run over by the bridge and drop all my money on the ground. I proceeded to laugh very hard. I told him he had to think I was completely new or stupid to fall for that one!

I'm so sick of seeing all of these "Scam" posts. Unless there is a serious bug or exploit that the community needs to be aware of, don't post it. I'm not even sure who would fall for this type of "scam" because it's so obvious that there is something fishy going on. If one were to fall for this trick, you deserved to be scammed.

Not sure if its just random (bad) luck, but it seems like there is a recent surge in scamming. I say this from my own recent experiences and the increasing scam topics on this forum. I went for over a year without a single person attempting to scam me, but I've had several attempts in the past couple months (all failed, and I believe I got one banned).

The last scammer that tried to get me was a bit more original, although I have heard of this trick before. I was selling in Kamadan, and the "buyer" asked to see the item outside, but in the Great Temple/Isle of the Nameless, instead of just stepping out of Kamadan. This immediately made me suspicous, but I decided to play along. He then claimed (before even leaving Kama) that he has a graphics problem and can only see the bottom 1/2 of his screen, and that I need to drop the item on the ground while he is far away so he can see the stats. The scammer was W/Mo, so knowing shadow stepping wasn't an option for him (even ebon escape wasn't availble), I assumed that he was going to kill me with the seige weapon on the Isle of the Nameless and grab it off the ground. I called him out on it, and he just responed with "lol no" and "nvm if u dont like it". I guess he realized that I wasn't going to fall for it and that further arguement would just lead to me getting more evidence to report him.

While this scam has been well known for quite some time now, some people may not have realized that the new Vanguard skill will have the same effect without being an assassin of any sort. At least some valuable information has come out of this thread.

I agree. A lot of people seem to not understand what a "scam" really is.
I mean, a scam utilizes an exploit of some sort or is really underhanded. See the elona reach mission "item duping" thing, where you drop items on the ground because the guy says you can dupe them, then he activates the cutscene and teleports you away from your stuff. Note this was before Factions and shadowstepping made this scam even easier.

The difference between that and this is that that was harder to see comming and had tons of people actively doing it (I've personally seen at least a dozen people running this scam at Elona Reach) and if it has a believeable enough story to actually work (ie people will fall for it).

The odds that this guy actually suceeded in getting people to drop items on the ground is slim. Lots of people like the guy the OP is complaining about try to come up with "new" scams. Very few work and become rampent. Those are the ones people should be warned about. Not the ones that people can see through from a mile away.
