GW:EN - Allow Online Customers to buy it already

So reports are all over the forums that people bought their copy of GW:EN last week...yesterday...today...got the call from EB/Gamestop saying the game was there to pickup whenever they want it. Point is...unlike Nightfall it seems like stores releasing it "early" are the rule rather than the exception.

I've asked Anet to allow Online customers to buy it online prior to release...I was told there were legal reasons they couldn't. I'm sure these were all tied to the street date of the game being August 31st and they couldn't sell it legally before then. Now some people are saying that the game doesn't have a street date according to EB or Target (the two places I've seen mentioned). Does it really matter anymore? Just give us access to buy the game prior to the actual release...1 day early...is that so hard to do?

I don't want to have to deal with the Lag that will be there at the time of release like I dealt with during the preorder pack release. Just release the game so we can buy it already...you still control access for everyone that has a key...so we won't be getting in any earlier than anyone else.

You'll just be pissing off your online customers when they have to deal with the lag accompanied with the online store when the game is released tomorrow at midnight.

I read that gaile said that they can't do that. I forgot why but it had something to do with charging your credit card early. I think the thread is in dev tracker

Edit:AHA! i found it!http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10191895

yeah I've been tracking some of the comments she's made about it...mostly on her talk page on the Official Wiki. She references something regarding legal stumbling blocks that prevent them from doing it.

What does a credit card have to do with it though? If I authorize the charge...why can't they charge me?

I'm saying forget all that crap...people are getting the game early..whether they like it or not and whether it's legal or not..we should be able to do the same.

edit: yeah I posted in that thread the dev track is talking about...

I remember her saying something along the lines of:

There are idiots out there who forget their credit card purchases online, so when they see their credit bill they freak out and sue us.

That was NOT a quote :P. But yea, that's essentially they reason why.

Then why accept credit cards at all at any time? It should make no difference whether it's before a release or after it. If it's clear that they are accepting orders whether before or after a release there's always going to be idiots like that who forget that they authorized a charge and sue them.

That is NOT a valid excuse for refusing to let us buy it early.

Well I can think of it being...if people purchase somethign online an then for what ever reason they don't want it when the final product is out they can't change it. *though I don't see a isuee with 27 hours to go but who knows.

Apparently, they shouldn't sell it before it's usable. I don't know why that makes a difference but it does.

bought mine at EB today. its 10000000 x better than buying it from Anet. Mainly cause you can instal it with the disk, instead of waiting 1 hour for a load. =o

chances are if you have been doing -image regularly...you have most of the content already...

and I don't need another box sitting on my shelf....another useless CD for a game that I can download the client for whenever I need it.

and if they shouldn't sell it before it's usable...why did they ship it without a street date...allowing places like EB to sell it before release...thus selling it before it's usable.

Not exactly - she was talking about people pre-authorizing a charge, not actually paying it (they authorize it on the 17th, get charged on the 30th)

But anyways, yes, they should allow for a full-payment of the game before release.

just because you do not like the law that NCsoft has to obey does not change the fact they do have to obey it.

you have been told why you cant have what you want and it is not something Anet/NCsoft has control over

just stop the whineing already or run down to a store and buy it,

enter the key,

and waaiittttt til the first glorious minute.

myself i will be asleep and get it sometime tomorrow morning after breakfast or if the store is crowded maybe sat.

For the life of me I can't inderstand what all the hullabaloo is about. What's the big deal?? It's not as if the game is going anywhere, it'll be there whenever one gets a chance to buy the damn thing and enter the key. Tonight, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, next week ... who cares? There HAS to be better things in life to worry, bitch and moan about than this.

Personally, I'll be on the golf course and down at the beach enjoying an annual ribfest soaking up the last few rays of summer all weekend ... I'll get it when I get around to it. There will be no lag and all the no-lifers will be far beyond the towns and outposts that I'll be in ... and that suits me just fine!

Chill out and enjoy life ... it's much too short to get a migraine over someone getting access to a computer game expansion sooner than you.

I'm very, very afraid of what will happen in the anet store at midnight....

I can seriously see multiple charges for the timeouts.......but this is the business model Anet chose, so they'll be dealing with the credit card companies when they lodge complaints

Will, I play GW on the weekend to unwind. I play around my fairly hectic social life, and generally in a two weeks on two weeks off fashion because that is how my b/f works Saturdays. I didn't get to play much of the preview because he wasn't working and I choose to spend time with him.

For me GW is a social game. I play with friends, and sometimes I just sit in game chatting. My friends are already quite a bit ahead of me. That doesn't both any of us too much, a couple of quests/hours is not long to wait for someone to catch up. Unfortunately we are now talking a matter of days - as much as a week of game time. I can't ask them to wait, it would be unfair. I could wait another couple of weeks and play GWEN when they take their 2nd character through, but then they will be skipping cutscenes, taking the most direct route and for my first time through the game I'd like it all to be a little bit of an adventure. My only other choice is hench heroes thus spoiling the social aspect of the game. It's a loose-loose situation for all concerned... Except the publisher who has absolute no stake in it whatsoever.

I am VERY disappointed with the situation in Australia and NZ. I am disappointed because I loved what I saw of the preview weekend, and would love to explore it all a little more. I am annoyed also because this is ALWAYS happening, not just with Anet/NCSoft/GW but with games in general. ANZ doesn't form a big slice of the market therefore retailers don't care when games reach our shores. In business terms, it makes perfect sense, but that doesn't make me any less annoyed by the entire situation.

some people dont have all that free time to "head to the golf course...beach...ribs... etc..." I work evenins, so most of my days are wasted - leaves me with nights to relax... Guess what... not much else do do at night... So i play games, watch movies, and occasionally visit family/friends... for others, this is also their ideal time to play... what theyre really stressing about is the possibility of server side errors triple charging them, or the site going down for 2 days and them not getting in. For me it would be a wasted weekend. Luckily for me i have a plan 2 just in case.

Fates, if that is correct I am now more than a little "not amused". I'd have bought online if they released early, they said they wouldn't so I ordered a copy. Delivery gets delayed, they release online early, except Aussies are at school and work and don't get home until the time the game goes live. So I'm still in exactly the same position.

Just bought it online with no problems too, but I have to say this is pretty humorous. "Who cares if it's illegal, everyone else is doing it!". Yeah, that sure justifies everything.

You can now buy GWEN on the online store, so theres really no point in this thread anymore.
