The Last Dungeon

I don't typically write my theories on future events to happen in GW very much but when I do (forums or wiki) they tend to be pretty accurate. I think I have an idea on where the last dungeon in Guild Wars is located for those who want a bit of a spoiler, so for those who don't stop reading now.

I think i've stumbled upon the last dungeon in Eye of the North just looking at the leaked map. First let me point you to illustration one here

Why this Dungeon has been blotched out I have no idea, but the fact that some parts of the leaked map were purposefully covered is going to play a part in the next two areas.

If you look at the preview poster you'll see that they placed a dungeon near Beacons Perch. I've cut the map so you can see exactly what I mean here. If you look at this section of the leaked map here you'll see a long sliver with a black mark on the side that appears as if they covered that up.

Now for the big one. If you look at the leaked map Below Fort Ranik you'll notice a
strange graphical anomaly. I think we will be returning back to Ascalon at end game. Makes perfect sense eh? So I think that we will fight the Great Destroyer in Dungeon 17 but for some reason we must go to dungeon 18 in ascalon. This reason may be tied to the Sylvari, which we will see born in Ascalon. I feel that it would be more fitting for the Sylvari to be birthed in the Tarnished Coast due to the lore and it's physical appearance however I swear I remember reading that the Sylvari won't appear until the end of the storyline so I dunno. It's possible that the dungeon in ascalon is 17 and we have to do that before the southern shiverpeak one but I think making the last dungeon in Ascalon is a great design for storytelling because it brings all the lore full circle. Another possibility I won't rule out is obtaining the Great Dwarf in the Shiverpeak dungeon and fighting the Great Destroyer in Ascalon but I think that's doubtful.

Note on Amount of Dungeons:The
GWEN Poster I think is off a bit on the dungeon notations. You'll see that they list the Battledepths as two dungeons when it is just two entrances to that explorable area. So that's two missing from the 17 in the preview poster. I know in the preview event that there is a portal inside the depths to the west that wasn't accessible but It just might lead to that portal on the right outside Umbral Grotto, which means the preview poster may incorrectly display 3 dungeons. Another issue the preview poster doesn't mark the second portal behind Vox's Falls(top right of the asura area on the leaked map) as a dungeon. This could be because that isn't a dungeon there but was a mixup on the leaked map. some parts of that map do show double portals so it might just be a mistake. There is another portal on the leaked map that I believe is a dungeon that is also not on the preview poster. If you look south of Vox's or up and to the east of Tarnished Haven there is a portal which appears to lead into a dungeon.

In summary, if there is a dungeon to the east of grotto or one inside the battledepths and there is a dungeon above and below vox's and you include the Shiverpeaks and Ascalon dungeons that brings us out to the full 18. I know that's a bit confusing but I hope somebody understands :P. Of course all of this information could be completely off but I think I'm close on a few points here.

If there is a dungeon in (or below) Ascalon, I almost guarantee it will be a "return" to the catacombs. People have been wanting them to "open up" the catacombs for a long time now. It only makes sense that they do it with GWEN and the introduction of dungeons, which are very catacomb-like anyway.

Pretty good theory, but we will see. I have a feeling there is more to it, of course, and may involve some hidden area you can't see on the map, even through anomalies and graphic errors. Something akin to Sunspear Sanctuary and The Hidden City of Adhashim (sp?) in Elona, where you can't see anything on the map, then BAM, city in the middle of nothingness.

Your theory is pretty interesting, but I still have this feeling the final dungeon will be placed in the mists. I think your right about the Sylvari being born at the end, but I also believe that the next evil will be born there as well. Jeff Strain stated in an interview that, you will pretty much know the main villains for GW2 at the end of EotN.

So to me you are pretty much going to create a polar opposite species, that will lead to the next good vs. evil battle in GW2.

If they make a return to the catacombs dungeon I hope there isn't a collector asking us to collect 100 gargoyle skulls. I will throw my computer out the window.

People who don't own Prophecies, are they able to see the other half of Tyria in the World Map screen? I ask this because having a dungeon in Ascalon would mean only Prophecies players could get to it, if Nightfall/Factions only players cannot see this part of Tyria.

Yes they can see the whole world map screen (covered, of course). You have to remember that the Tarnished Coast is directly below the Maguuma Jungle and the sparky swamp (west of the southern shiverpeaks) will be accessible to those who don't own prophecies as well. For the southern Shiverpeaks and Ascalon dungeons those who don't own Prophecies will certainly be able to travel there as well but will not be able to access the Prophecies only areas by going to those dungeons and explorable areas.

An explanation for the birth of the Sylvari being born in Ascalon rather than the tarnished coast could be the result of a total accident.

Perhaps what we are doing back in Ascalon is using magic to restore it to it's former glory, and in the process we create a completely new race.

Comparing the map from the GW:EN box to the full Tyrian one, that dungeon appears to be at the bottom of the Frost Gate mission....either that or a path from the other side of the mountains ie Nolani.

From the official GW:EN map there is a Dungeon in the middle of the Shiver Peaks, According to the official Guild Wars Wiki there is a dungeon called "Heart of the Shiverpeaks" that is accessed through the Battledepths.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Battledepths
That's what that dungeon is most likely, since Ascalon is only available to people with Prophecies odds are that even if there IS a dungeon there it will only be accessible through one of the other dungeons similar to Battledepths -> Heart of the SHiverpeaks.

The Great Dwarf defeated the Great Destroyer last time at Anvil rock.... the Heart of the Shiverpeaks dungeon is Basically right underneath Anvil rock but obviously it cant be in the same explorable area because it has to be accessible for people who didnt but prophecies. Anyway you have alot of conjecture, but I would say that final fight = heart of the shiverpeaks.

I think we will return to Ascalon towards the end game and will make our way through catacombs towards crystal desert and from there we will make our way to the hall of heroes via the tombs of primeval king. In the mists we will fight the great destroyer and Gwen will fall in love with Ogden and a Sylvari will be born.

Thinking of the zoomed out map and the Ascalon got hit by the searing type nuke. With crystals everywhere do you think they could emit some sort of magical radiation and maybe one had gotten into the catacombs and effected eveything slowly for the past 8 years?

I can't see it listed anywhere on the wikis, so...

It wasn't this way in the preview event, but Kilroy Stonekin's boxing quests, one of them counts as a dungeon. It even gets added to the dungeon guid as one of the 18.
