I wasn't sure if I should post this here or the EotN forum.

Anyways I was just wondering if there is any way we can download the content for the game in advance so we're ready to go on the 31st? Does buying the pre-order thing from the online store allow you to download the files for EotN or are we stuck waiting until the actual release?

It seems we're stuck waiting but that doesn't really make that much sense because the strain on ANet's connection and the servers is going to be insane with everyone downloading like crazy.

Anyways if someone knows the answer I'd really appreciate it. I'd hate to be the only poor bastard stuck waiting for files to download during the zone transitions.

Right-click your GW shortcut, go to "Properties". Where it says something to the effect of "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe", change it to read

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image

This will download ALL content, including Eye of the North stuff. However, it'll likely take a while, so do it before you sleep, or similar.

Oh, and don't forget to take -image out when it's done.

Now how would adding -Image be able to download content that isn't available yet?

because everybody already has most of it already.

to explain

when GWEN goes live we will all have it but only the ones with a GWEN key can ACCESS the content.

think of GWEN/JORA grayed out on your hero menu

you have them but you cant access them yet

remember that 100+ megabyte download all of us got earlier?.........GWEN for all just add a key to use

I suggest you make a 2nd gw short cut, change the name to image downloader or something and then just use that. That way, you don't have to worry about remembering to remove the -image.

Just because you can't play it doesn't mean you can't download it.

That said, does it make any sense to occasionally delete the GW.DAT file and use -image to download a fresh copy?

It can make sense if you start having bizzare issues like error 7 when you click the "Skip Cinematic" button.

Last friday the first day of the preview weekend before school, I did -image at the end of my properties. When I looked at it it was around 19,000 files. So I left it on, went to school, came back and it was done. So I can only assume that it loaded all the content for EOTN.

theyve actually been adding the content for a while. there was a huge patch about a month ago which people found the beginnings of gwen skills and textures in... Since then there have been several moderate sized patches which seem to have been updating and adding to that content. The actual trigger patch i expect to be pretty small.
