[Guild Wars] - I'm Confused!

Heya guys. So I am thinking of joining Guild Wars. You know, i've seen the awsome graphics, great PVP, and heard of the no montly fees.

But I'm still very confused about something. I don't really understand the concept of the game!

I mean, I heard that you choose between either PVP mode, or PVE mode. Does that mean if you choose PVP mode, you can't fight monsters? Or, vice versa, if you choose PVE mode, you can't fight other people?

Also, does that ultimately mean, if you want to play both PVP and PVE that you'd have to make two seperate accounts/characters?

Another question that I have is about this 'Storyline'. I don't really understand how it works. Is the game like Diablo, where you join a private room and beat the game together? Or is it more like WoW and Final Fantasy 11? (In Final Fantasy 11 you do quests which contribute to a greater story line.)

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but i've looked around and I couldn't really find a direct answer to my question unless I asked it.

From what I've read it seems that PVE mode is basically like World of Warcraft.

And PVP mode is just like a "MMORPG Altered Counter-Strike" lol.

I still don't understand the storyline thing though.

Well think of it this way.

PVE: Start at Level 1. Fight monsters and level up to 20. Get skills and treasures. You can still go to all of the same PVP places as a PVP Character. Skills you get are unlocked for PVP Characters/Heroes

PVP: Start at level 20. Use any skill unlocked on your account. Through PVP you get faction, which you spend on skills for PVP only characters.

Also, PvE characters CAN play PvP. You just have to get to level 20 and get deccent enough equipment to be able to be competitive.

Also, don't worry about making multiple characters. Its very easy to reach max level in this game. Getting level 20 is the start of this game (90% + of the content is for level 20s). Everything else is really a tutorial. Pretty much every serious player has multiple characters. I have 8 max characters (though only 6 I play on a fairly constistant baises). Don't let it daunt you.

Also, you can delete and remake a PvP character pretty easily. So don't get too attached to him and just save one slot for a PvP character (if you choose to try it out).

As for the storyline...well...You basically have a series of outposts and towns to travel through/to...MOst of them are associated with quests and missions. Quests are sort of "side trips" with experience and rewards. Missions are on a grander scale in that you typically group with other players (or henchies/heroes) and fullfull a specific task(s) that are related to previous events. So, you befriend group A and agree to help them. A quest send you off into the wilderness to help find a person/item/etc, if you die, no problem, you respawn at the nearest rez shrine with some health penalty....A mission has you defend a fort/defeat an army/recover an artifact but if you fail, you start over...before, during or after the mission, there are cut scenes that give you insight to the "big picture" of events in the world...through the Missions a whole story is told, the quests are supporting details of the larger story....missions have larger experience rewards and have titles associated with the completion of goals with bonuses (bonuses range from completion in a limited time frame to NOT killing certain NPCs or not letting certain NPCs die)...Along the way, you will see a whole narrative play out and alot of comical references to real world events and people "More Cowbell" anyone?
