No idea, I picked one up after killing Murakai last night. Guess I'll hold onto it for now.
Some of the back story indicated that Murakai (and the other spirits haunting the treasure) was Ascalonian though, it might tie into something there.

It is used for a quest he gives you. Take the quest with it in your inventory, then beat the dungeon again. You'll get the reward.

Hum, i put it in my invetory and asked for the quest again. The quest log says I have the relic and return it is completed, but I still need to defeat the leader again... I'd rather not get in line to do the dungeon over again.
