strategies, tips, trick or just general hints for getting thru shards of orr?

I've been trying to get through the shards of orr dungeon to reach gadd's encampment but i keep getting slaughtered about half way through. I'm not even trying to clear the dungeon or attempt the quest, i'm just trying to get to the other side. Everytime however I'm met with extreme opposition. I've already tried pugging it but that served to be quite a waste of time. I've also tried getting thru with hero/hench several times.

This is what i've been running on my heros

Dunkoro: A standard WoH build, just general healing/anti spike
Vekk: SF build
Olias: Standard MM

Myself I'm running a splinter barrager

I've been switching up the hench pretty much everytime but it hasn't proved too helpful.

I'm having lots of trouble with continually getting blinded/knockeddown.

Any tips or helpful hints are welcome... I don't need ppl to tell me that the dungeon is easy or something and I just plain suck. Thats not helping me :P

I also had a lot of trouble with it. After going in a second time without DP and getting whiped, I sacrificed the heroes/henchies I had by flagging them into the mob and then running past the last two mobs. If they are not at 60 DP, they should cause enough of a diversion for you to run past.

If you want to get through the normal way, I suggest using Gwen instead of Olias. The minions will get annihilated by the eles anyway.

Hmm, the last two groups there were annoying, but the rest isn't worth mentioning.

I had Master of Whispers as SS/anti-melee curses with interrupts, Sousuke as Savannah nuker (would give him ele and stability wards) and Gwen as basic anti-melee/anti-caster.

Eve, the illusion mesmer hench, Mhenlo and Talon as henchies.

I played a prot monk.

If I ran this second time, I'd bring some defense against KD, either on an ele, or one of those new skills.

I ran myself as a rit/r channeling rit with splinter, Ogden as a smiter, Koss as an AoE warrior, Olias as MM, and the henchies Lina, Mhenlo, Herta and Devona.

Really wasn't very hard, except for the final boss. What exactly is killing you?

i wonder, what's the point of bringing a MM in an undead dungeon?
I did it with a full smitter team.

A full smiter team? That's an awesome idea for the next time I'm going to do that dungeon.

My solution - exchange MM. I added another ele/mes nuker/interrupter, but my guess is any substitution for a functional hero will help a lot.

Thats not helping me :P Fight the easy mobs up to the door with the mobs with 5-6 wizards each. Fight the first mob and risk taking a party wipe. After that, you can run the rest of it easy, just take your time and watch the patrols. I was able to do it with my ranger after my party aggroed a mob halfway through and wiped as I ran.

I specced Ogden out with my signet smiter build from one of my other characters. Rush the clerics when they're all clustered and the groups go down pretty quick.

Me and a guildie did the dungeon (not the quest) today and it went flawless. The key to our success was thinking more defensively than offensively. He was a LoD monk and we took a prot hero (Aegis, Guardian, Shielding Hands, RoF, SoA) and another LoD hero (yes 3 MONKS). I went SS using Barbs and Mark of Pain. I took Melonni with Balth Avatar and HoHF as skills against undead. Took Olias as a Jagged Bones minion bomber. I know they're supposed to be undead, but there are plenty of corpses for minions. The other 2 slots were used for a hero SF ele with MS and my Zhed as a Sandstorm Ele using Eruption for blinding and Maelstrom for interrupts. He was also equipped with Ward Against Melee and Ward Against Elements.

With this build we were able to get to the boss with very few deaths. Once we got to the boss fight, we used the consumables Grail of Might and Essence of Celerity.

i went through there and thought to myself, that was easy. but after reading this thread i see why. i was smite using RoJ, along with mow (ss), olias (mm)- not many bodies but cool to hang around with, sousuk (earth wards/sandstorm), menhlo, cynn, zho, and lena.

I did the same thing tonight. Originally, I went in with a MM and SS, along with my ZB prot. Well, after realizing there were few corpses, I tried again.

Replaced the SS and the MM with a Smiting monk and an Avatar of Balt dervish. Worked wonderfully.

I agree, the boss is a little weird at first. Killing all the way just to attack his true form. Took a few times to figure out all of the tactics (Ulcerous Lungs are nasty for a shouter Paragon; Insidious Parasite isn't fun either).

I remember what the Acolyte of Balthazar in Jahai Bluffs did to my undead minions.

Then again... sticking secondary Dervish on just about any physical attacker and charging up Heart of Holy Flame will make short work of most undead.

I don't think getting to Gadd's Encampment is that easy the first time you ever do it. Those undead are NASTY. Splinter Barrage may be the best way to go, with a Dervish running Avatar of Balthazar and a Paragon running Song of Purification maybe. Perhaps Expel Hexes on a Mesmer, Monk or Rit.

Is this really a valid use for a Dervish hero?

Yeah, I was stunned when I brought the dervish. I rarely bring one (ended up bringing Kahmu since I realized I never did anything with Melonni (no runes at all). But, it sliced thru the undead hordes quickly.

For heros and henchmen I used a Smiter, Dervish (Balth & HHF), Zed (SF Nuker), Monk hench x2, Devona, Illusion Mes.

For myself I used the suggested Barrage + Heart of the Holy Flame and added the Norn skill "I am the strongest".

Walked through the area with great ease.

I ran in with me as a Mind Blast infinite energy nuker, Vekk as a generic SF nuker, Dunkoro with WoH, Master of Whispers as an MM (yes, useless in this case) and i believe Herta, Mhenlo, Lina, and Talon Silverwing.

We only had a bit of trouble until I figured out which undead should be the first target called (clerics or some such, I can't quite remember) and then we carved through them with ease.

I did it as monk with arcane echo+ray of judgement. Each nuke does 220 aoe, so you start out doing 440 dmg to every mob in the group :>.

I have done it and got a stupid wand from the end boss called Fendi's Rod.

My suggestion will be to use:

1. Smiter
2. Ele with SF/SH
3. Paragon with Song of Purification

I have done with another friend and heroes. The boss is sorta stupid and the dungeon is lengthy and repetitive. Other than that it is very much henchable.

Success!!!

Took a Smiter, the Dervish hero and me as a Splinter/Barrage and made it through. I will say this, for those of you used to obliterating everything in a zone (like me), THAT is a tactic you might want to change, that was the secret for me, is that many of the mob group can be avoided. Only had one wipe en route and it got me to a rez shrine that was ahead of me.

I cleared it today after about an hour spent on the boss..since I didn't know what I had to do at first.
Anyways I had one of the most messed up builds ever. Since there are plenty of sorcerer's, melee is silly. So my build for myself (war) and my heroes.

Me:
Signet of Judgement,
Bane Signet,
Symbol of Wrath,
Endure Pain (not totally needed, saved me a few times),
Dolyak Signet,
Holy Wrath (again, only used on the boss),
Light of Deldrimor
Great Dwarf Armor. 16 Str, 9 Axe and 10 Smite.

Acolyte Sousuke:
Savannah Heat,
Mark of Rodgort,
Fireball,
Liquid Flame,
Meteor Shower,
Fire Attunement
Glyph of Lesser Energy with Rez Chant.

Zhedd:
Balth's Aura (really useful),
Ray of Judgement,
Scourge Enchantment (awesome),
Spear of Light,
Smite Hex,
Grasping Earth (for when wars got past me, used grasping then aura),
Glyph of Lesser
Rez Chant.

Vekk:
Shield of Regen
Balth's Aura
Smite Condition
Smite Hex
Extinguish
Aegis
Glyph of Lesser and Rez Chant

Cynn
Mhenlo
Lina
Herta.

I cleared the first 2 floors rather fast, around 25-30 minutes (which is about as long as it takes me in every dungeon), they died extremely fast usually under 20 seconds, if there was no priest. The boss was hard for me as I didn't know the trick to beating him at first. But I got him down eventually. If you're running a warrior..Smitetanking works wonders, probably not as good as other things but worked well for me since I couldn't attack anyways.

I have to say I had no real issues with this dungeon, aside from near the end. But I soon realised that you can just run past the two pillars and the group of undead and run to the portal.

Just focus on the preists and clerics and take an MM and you shud be fine. Although I do use 3 monks and myself and another SF ele nuker.

I ran my three monk heroes with this smiter build:

Signet of Mystic Wrath
Signet of Judgment
Castigation Signet
Smite Condition
Mystic Regeneration
Retribution
Balthazar's Spirit
Resurrection Signet

I had Eve, Herta, and the two monk henches with me running a Dwarven Battle Stance warrior with "You Move like a Dwarf!" It was a piece of cake.

I set two heroes to heavy smiting damage and one to half smite/half protect, then Mhenlo, Lina, Cynn, and Herta. I was a fire ele with Light of Deldrimor - which, in addition to letting you find very mediocre "treasure" and/or frail ghost allies, does fairly good aoe holy damage. If a mob has both clerics and priests, get the clerics first. Everything was easy until the end boss. Most of us were +5% to +10% by the end, except for Zhed and Sousuke (my smiters) who really like to leeroy the worst mobs imaginable, despite being set to guard.

But the end boss Fendi is a rather unpleasant fellow. I finished him eventually, but it was long, frustrating, boring, and a little ridiculous. Fendi himself was not much, if you survive his spikes, but his ghost form was very resistant to damage. At the time I was wishing I had brought a nice domination/interrupt mesmer, but alas. Any suggestions on how to deal with him better than chipping away at him a few hp's at a time (with a build that can get to him)?

Done it twice so far w/o any holy damage, though a Smitter monk w/Judge's Insight or R/Mo Holy Barrager would do well.

First group (hero/hench):
R/W stance tank
Dunkoro LoD
Zhed Warder
Xandra Spirit Army
Healer Hench
Prot Hench
Fire Hench
Mesmer Hench

2nd group (2PC/hero)
R/W stance Tank PC
Xandra Spirit Army
Dunkoro LoD
Vekk SF
R/Rt Prep shot PC
Tahlk Prot
Vekk Warder
Morghan Party Support wiki Build

Took a long time for both of them and wouldn't do it again other than for Dungeon Guide.

That link has a few basic tips but isn't really comprehensive. Also, anti-KD is really good here, so "I am the strongest", drunk PvE skills, and Ward of Stability are very nice.

Cornering him is nice, get him against a wall and put three people around him and he continues to spawn. Ghost form and crew members spawn in same spot, though the archers run around a bit, but never really focus that much damage. If you can interrupt both Fendi and his ghost form's FoC, usually your party heal is enough to cover, just keep chipping away.
