Glint's Challenge

Can anyone give me tips on how to beat this thing? How many waves are there in total before I can get a hero armor? Any suggestions and builds are also welcome, hopefully nothing too specific since its almost impossible to even find a group willing to try it.
I tried with the typical tanks, nukes and mm team setup, but I couldnt survive the second wave with the all those lvl 28 destoryers storming in. Are there things that specifically help against the destoyers (waves and waves of them)?

Hehe. I'm having the same problem

Go with a mallyx setup perhaps? (if you can gather human team)
Obsidian flesh tank all bonded up then get a bunch of meteor shower savannah heat eles to nuke them to oblivion.
If not try some wards and maybe fevered dreams with blind for big aoe blinding. Add in daze against casters if enemies can be semi clumped up.

You have to beat ALL 7 waves, as I hear. Which also includes 5 bosses in the final wave...

Damage is not the problem, unless you are aiming for high score (not crazy enough to try that). Problem is survival, when you have groups after groups of lvl 28 destoryers coming from both sides armed with tons of AoE attacks, even a full mm army fall in a few seconds. Also the monks cant keep healing forever, not to mention they are always targeted first. Once your party start dying its pretty much over since the enemy just piles up more and more.
MercenaryKnight
Well I was mainly suggesting (never did this challenge) if theirs enough room and enemies come from 1 direction you stick the obsidian flesh war up front to tank damage, bonder + healer and maybe symbiosis or something. Then even if they are "immune to burning" use maybe winter + savannah heat eles with meteorshower, tenais heat and the other equivalent inorder to just nuke them down. (no burning)
Again, i'm just a noob putting in my .02 not even knowing if it's possible lol.

Maybe you should ask the OP of this thread who claims the challenge is "fairly simple" as long as you bring a MM hero along.

I dont believe for a second he done it with heros and "c space" through it, most likely he cashed in all his ectos stock and bought it from players. For one, there are two paths where the enemy comes in. You cant split your henchman, so you either only have 1 mm on one of the the side or bring 2 mm heroes. Either way you will be stuck with 1 player 3 heroes (1 mm) on one side and 4 henchman on the other, or 1 player and 2 heroes (1 mm) on one side and 4 henchman plus 1 hero (mm) on the other.
None of the above works of course, and the central chamber is too wide to defend aginst enemies coming from both directions if you choose to camp base instead.

ive done it 3 times with guildies
4-4 split team.
tripple chop warrior (me), prot talkora with zb, earth zhed (ward against melee, unsteady ground, ebon hawk, glowstone, unsteady ground, eruption etc
ranger with some traps and bow skills
other side had 2 curses necros, a mm and a monk
after the first "wave" or set of destroyers, u can fall back into a 8man group
hope that helps

This is an easy mission. I did it with heroes/henchmen plenty of times, just c-spacing through it. I set up a MM hero and 2 air spike eles, with the two monk henchmen, Eve and Herta. I was a warrior. The air spike eles are just a personal preference. Just camp at the baby dragon and wait for them to come and kill them.

Don't make assumptions like that just because you can't beat it yourself.
nightwatchman
I also hero & henched it. I used an MM,SS and WoH hero. The two monk henches, earth ele and interrupt, and I was a crip slash war. I spammed the "You're all weaklings" norn skill to keep damage down, and didn't have any problems. The last level with the bosses was easiest by far.
MercenaryKnight
I also did it with just heroes and hench. Vekk with ward of weariness, 2 mms.
Mehnlo, prot hench, herta, illusion mesmer.
I was an ineptitude mesmer. Getting to the bosses= the hard part, the bosses themselves get owned super fast. I killed the warrior boss before the other boss could even get to the dragon. Any skills to kill fast such as ineptitude, domination magic, straight nukes but I am assuming Spiteful Spirit= the best.

take "fairly simple" to mean "it's pretty easy when you get the hang of it."
anyway, here's some more detail that hopefully will help:
don't ignore the destroyers' high resistance to fire..don't just add another SH or SF ele to your group to compensate - turn the fire magic to zero...Destroyers are anet's way of reminding you that there are 3 other elements.
Actually, i don't bring ele's at all..armor ignoring damage is the way to go. I have my own ranger spread conditions - poison arrow, screaming shot + signet of infection, and Finish Him for my offensive conditions; you're all weaklings and throw dirt to hamper melee destroyers. For heroes i run MM (close combat minions for body-blocking and death nova), SS and a WoH Monk..Mhenlo's got LoD covered and if you're doing this right you shouldn't need so many party heals that you need to run a LoD hero. Lina, Lo Sha, and Zho round out the group. Notice there really isn't a whole lot of aoe, here...aoe is great for the first wave, but heavy degen works best i found for the final five waves.
Since i don't use a lot of aoe, the first wave can (but not usually) get a little hairy if you wait back by the dragon..this wave i usually creep up one side, kill a few, run to other side - the minions will stick around and hold the fort for a time while i take my party to the other gate and repeat the process.
second wave, i usually flag hench in between both doorways..usually what happens is the destroyers of hordes on the side i'm closest to will agro while inside the tunnel and stand there barraging the wall while i take care of the compassions up close. Then, when there's no compassions around, i peak around the corner and apply degen. If you wait up by the dragon and fail to kill the hordes fast enough you can find yourself getting barraged from 8 directions, which isn't very fun with heroes/hench standing on top of each other.
for the rest of the waves i stay up by the dragon
third wave is really easy..if you have trouble with it, then you already died on the second wave so don't worry about it.
fourth wave, look for the melee mobs to come out and usually your minions will corner block them on the rise up to the dragon and prevent them from coming up to your casters..use your weakness and blind causing skills to help them tank and that's about it
fifth wave..this is why you brought Zho. The lvl 28 ele's here are the only real danger..they pop up at regular intervals in three spots close to the dragon..they arrive one at a time, and there are four..keep an eye out for them until you've got the pattern down because you need to target these as soon as they pop-up to make sure Zho targets them with her interrupts. The last thing you want is two of them firing aoe at your hench..they will die, quickly.
sixth wave is easy..each boss should be dead or very near so before the next one shows up and none of the bosses has any kind of back-up.
once you "get it," it should be fairly simple, with the only point of concern being the occasional miscue on your own part...over time you'll probably find yourself getting more cloths of the brotherhood than you will destroyer cores.

Can you use the PVE special items?
They might make a big difference.

I was having trouble herohenching this and just completed it after trying a bunch of different things.
Wave 4 is the hard one (waves 5 and 6 are absolutely trivial compared to the other ones, just don't get too far from the dragon on wave 5, otherwise you may not get back in time before the 1-2 guys kill it). The problem is that on wave 4 your heroes and henchies will get bunched up and all die to melee attacks in seconds.
I made my warrior a W/E for Ward vs Melee, in addition to having Watch Yourself and Shields Up (plenty of projectile attacks to block) and the rest all adrenal attack skills. I wanted to have easier control over where and when the ward was placed, so I put it on my own character.
I made Vekk a support ele with Blurred Vision, Ward of Weariness, and Ward of Melee as well (elite was elemental attunement). I had my warrior use an elemental weapon to help out on the condition for ward of weariness as well.
I also had a MM and SS necro heroes, and for henchies I used the 2 monks, the earth ele, and the illusion mesmer.
I often had to force the heroes to stay in the wards, instead of running around out of them and getting killed. I would tend to keep my ward vs melee available, so that I could drop it immediately near someone if their health started to drop suddenly.

Dwarven Title Track FTW vs Destroyers.
If your precious Fire Nukers aren't working.... bring a spirit of Winter.
Better still... bring Greater Conflagration AND Winter. Turn the whole arena into an Ice-fest. If it can tear apart the titans in Hell's Precipice with the greatest of ease then it shouldn't have any trouble against destroyers.
I'm looking forward to seeing exactly where this challenge mission is.
But yeah.... if I remember rightly... the Dwarven Title Track gives you extra bonuses against Destroyers.
