Hello guys,
I am interested in playing guild wars, but if I want to play the complete game, I have to buy 4 games. Which are the regular campaign, factions, nightfall, and eye of the north.
If I want to play pve do I have to buy all?
Also, which do I have to buy if I just want to do the pvp? That will get me all the professions.
edit: i read the sticky before I posted this, but it didnt clarify some things
Which one to buy?

I came to this forum with the exact same question, almost posted but I saw this one post here so I didnt have to. I wanted to add a couple other supernewbie questions. I wasnt sure if it was worse to thread hijack or post very similar questions in another thread, so I just decided to go with this.
I see a lot of people on different forums talking about trial accounts for guild wars. Is this currently available anywhere?
By the way, I read some reviews for guild wars and they talked a good bit about how its tough to get groups together in guild wars. Is it any more tough than wow? Would someone like me who was joining not knowing anyone on here still be able to enjoy it? Is the game friendly to someone who wants to play casually? (this is why I quit wow)

Think of it this way. Each PvE game contains a different continent. So your character can then play PvE in the continent of the game you buy. When you buy another game, your character can travel to the other game's lands.
The six core professions are available from every game.
To make an assassin or ritualist as well as the core 6, (note, you can still play against/intereact with them of course) you need Factions.
For a Paragon or Dervish, you need Nightfall.

Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall can all be played as stand alone games.
Eye of The North Requires one of the above as it is an expansion rather than a stand alone game.
As Hawk said, your Prophecies character would be able to complete Prophecies then move onto Factions if you wish to do so.
HTH.

Hi and welcome to GW!
No, you do not need to own all 4 games to enjoy PvE. You just can't take your characters to all of the areas, unless you own all of the games.
I'd recommend that you start with one of the games, try it out and see if you like it. Yes, there is a 20 hour trial key available. Call ahead to your local EBGames and see if they have the $1.99 20-hour trial for sale. If they do, you can try the games for 20 hours before you make your commitment.

Thanks for the answers and not flaming me! I come from WoW, so it feels good not to be flamed after asking a question.
The reason I want to play guild wars is because the pvp is based on strategy not levels.
One last question, if I only want to do hall of heroes and gvg's and pvp, should I buy factions for ritualist and assasin, or buy nightfall for dervish and the other one.
I read that nightfall had 350 new spells, and since nightfall came after factions, it would include faction's spells also
