I am coming from the perspective of a casual gamer, who does not have time to devote to hours each day of gameplay. That is why the no monthly fee model is the main reason why I play the game, so obviously I don't come from the perspective of a hardcore gamer (GW the only game I play-again time constraints from RL duties). I feel that I represent a portion of Anet clientel and in that context I would like to offer some positive words for GW:EN.
Artwork/Environment: Amazing, simply amazing. I used to screen cap all the time when GW first came live, and found myself doing it less so as time went on. The new GW:EN areas that I have seen thus far are really well thought out, complex environments with more options as far as pathfinding, dynamic themes that run consistant through the dungeons (again, the ones I have seen). Obviously the art team really worked hard on creating new ideas, and expanding on older themes (such as the shiverpeaks).
Shader Engine: I saw the IGN preview and was really interested to see the new shader at work. Right away I could see the differences and was impressed. Not only to mention that the game looks great on a less than high performance computer (I won't bore you with the specs), that is saying something. I appreciate the efforts made to improve the game in all aspects, such as lip syncing, the henchmen emoting and conversations (love Aiden and Sho having archery discussions). This dedication for improvement that is not reflected in most companies (outside of gaming as well). This shows alot of maturity for their overall business model and dedication to thier product.
Storyline Tie-ups: Nice way to bring old themes back and adress the 'what happened?' questions that most wondered about since prophecies release. For that reason I chose the ebon vanguard path first. I am taking my time enjoying every aspect of the journey, rather than try to beat the expansion in 48hrs, which seems to be the flavor of the month around here.]
Hall of Monuments: Despite the naysayers around here, I really like what has been done in a general sense. I am not discussing particulars, rather the overall idea of transfering accomplishments. This has given me ideas to starting another char to bring to LA and then to the Eye of the North. So Anet has succeeded in continuing my interest for awhile in trying other pursuits and goals to bring to the HoM. I believe this was there intention to keep people busy before GW2 beta releases.
There is probably alot more to be said, but thats about it for me as I have still have much to see and do. If there are others out there who are not so hard core and could care less whether some items was re-skinned or their armor doesn't look 'just' right, I would encourage you to make more threads in a positive note. Sometimes its downright depressing coming through this forum and seeing all the negativity. (The petition for the HoM is an exception: I thought that was handled very well). Everyone is entitled to an opinion true, but you will lose respect from others if you are constantly negative with no actual constructive thoughts. Try being positive more often, you'll probably feel better about life in general.
Thanks Anet for a great looking game!
