I'd say to make a second character first to see if you like the Ritualist style. Many players find that it's hard to get in to the style.
As for the title hunter, that's your call. Personally, I wouldn't bother with ANY class unless I enjoyed it.

Pick Me
That's what I'm doing. Title Hunter for my Rit.
Is it fun? Nope. Very boring. Why? Caping elites over and over again in the same area for different elites is boring.
My rit is versatile, so he can do anything. With elites, he becomes even better.
You must like the profession if you want to spend all that time with it. I like the Ritualist, that is why I chose him to be the hunter.

I love the variable things my rit can do using various builds:
- He can heal.
- He can spike.
- He can spirit spam.
- He can fight with a bow.
- He can fight with a melee weapon.
- He can farm with the 330 build.
- He can be a minion master/minion bomber.
And that's just the start of what the ritualist can do. It is, in my opinion, the most versatile class in the game.
So what I'm saying is that with him, it's not boring sticking to the one profession, when that profession can do so much.

I prefer my ranger to my rit. My ranger is far more flexible, but the rit is flexible too. Sorry Zahr, just my feeling on it. Rit can certainly cast spells better with 4 pips and AwS, but expertise makes so much possible for a ranger. I like both though - my ranger is my flexible attacker, my rit is my flexible caster. Maybe it's because I have every skill on my ranger that it feels more flexible.
I agree that you should get a feel for the rit first. Rits certainly have flexibility, but you might not like the style of play. Takes getting used to.

I'd recommend that you create a rit and try things out.
The rit class is quite unique, and it has an interesting mix of skills, with different combinations all allowing different styles of play.
The rit is a pretty weak class until you get off "noob" island in Factions and make it to the mainland cities. Most of the skills we all love aren't available until you get off the starter island area.
Just be prepared for a unique class with lousy elite skills. The standard skills are actually quite fun, but the elites are widely considered by many players to be disappointing.

Definitely make a Rit. They're plenty of fun!

Also, a word of warning is that for most of the time on the starter island, and indeed even for a lot of time until you pick up one of the great Ritualist elites like Ritual Lord, Attuned was Songkai, Weapon of Quickening, Spirit's Strength, etc, the class will feel very weak, so just hang in there until you get the good skills

I made a rit, got a little help from some guildies and got my legendary survivor within 43 hours.
now I went with a spirit lord attacking rit rather than anything else, heroes do nicely, and I am tired of healing (my main character has been a monk for over a year) but I am just as capable of a healer when I got rit/mo and honestly I am loving my ritualist. he beats the crap out of just about everything he faces.
as for title hunter... unless you have alot of money to start with (some people do consider 200k alot) I would take it slow... skill hunter for all 3 is going to cost an arm and a leg, and protector then guardian will not be easy either, unless you get some good parties going.
If you go rit, and want some help or to see what a novice rit can do message me in game.

Oh, one other thing Rits can do, is interrupt like crazy. Warmonger's Weapon + a fast attacking weapon = enemy caster is shut down for the duration. Elementalists, monks, and Necros hate it when I go Rt/P with WW and Spirit's Strength
Little Shenanigan
is it worth it to make a rit if you don't have nf?
street peddler
um, yes. Theres some really good elites in nightfall tho like Weapon of Remedy and Spirits Strength.
Bargamer
Reclaim Essence, too. But IMO, it's not the Ritualist elites, but the other professions' elites that you can put on your Heroes that really make you want to buy Nightfall. Searing Flames, Light of Deliverance, Jagged Bones (not so much, but still fun.) The Nightfall PVE-skills are also better than Factions, I think. I use Necrosis in my usual build all the time, and Vampirism in my Spirit Spammer build.

ya
I have had my rit since the start of factions and I still dont' use a lot of stuff from nf but there are some really good skills from nf

Make a rit to play, and have fun.
Personally I use my ranger for title running. Many running skills and defense and armor for mapping all those areas

Rits can be an incredibly strong support class. However, when playing rit you have to remember:
You can't keep a party alive like a monk
You can't output heavy AoE DPS alone like an ele
Rits aren't the best nukers and they aren't the best healers. So don't try to compete.
Rits are very good support with weapon spells however. The problem is you really need to find competent allies to make use of it (really hard to find.) Splinter weapon will obliterate PvE like no other skill in the game if you find a competent person to put it on. Weapon of shadow or weapon of warding relieve pressure very well. Death Pact Signet allows you to bounce back mid battle incredibly well (however, most PvE groups know nothing about ressing and just run off and try to slowly rebirth their team.)

Actually, for straight healing, given the conditional mods, Rits heal more than Monks. Also, Channeling is pretty high up there compared to a 1-8 Fire Nuker, and a lot more spikable, if you're in PVP.
And Minion Bombing + Hex Necro does some pretty darn good point-blank AOE, and a heck of a lot more fun.
So while Rits are not "specialists" we can branch out twice better than any other Profession.
