Ogden Stonehealer: Smiter Supreme

So Flunkoro heals, sort of. Tahlkora protects, in her own special way...so what about Ogden?
My Ogden smites...in his own special way
I was just wanting some feedback on a build I created for him. I think it's lacking...something.

I'd considered [wiki]Balthazar's Pendulum[/wiki] in areas of high chance of Knock-Down. What I'd love is [wiki]Boon Signet[/wiki], if ONLY it healed for as much as Signet of Devotion.
I'd be interested to hear any comments. Don't worry, I'm not planning on taking him into an elite area with that build...but most normal mode PvE, general questing he's fun to take on. Has anyone else devised any smiting builds for Ogden, or is it just me who's making him a noob smiter?

I've tried running SoJ on talky while quishing/guardianing some of the undead areas and I've found that when its on a bar with multiple low energy spammable skills its not used as often as it should be. Defender's Zeal on the other hand is a godmode elite (especially in hardmode) for heroes in areas with low hex removal or in a team with multiple cover hexes, you should give it a whirl. Dull as it sounds, they do a decent job a casting judges insight on recharge and they even manage to cast it on a warrior or ranger occasionally too and would probably be the best replacement for castigation signet if you do.

I tried Defender's Zeal on Ogden before I settled on Shield of Judgment. Problem is, as I only really play in Normal Mode, the monster tends to die before he can get a decent enough return back off it. Do hero monks who use Defender's Zeal actually cast it on more than one foe when it's recharged?

Does Castigation Signet trigger Smiter's Boon?

This is a quite effective cond-hex removal. The heal from Smiter's boon is really nice, no need for this energy eating divine boon, I prefer frankly Zealot's fire, less energy intensive and helps for damage.
I question the lack of Smite Hex on OP's bar. This is a very powerful AoE nuke on a high smite attribute bar.
It is very effective in 3-monks teams to clean it from hexes and conds, so the prot (or the healer) can focus on protting or healing without taking a lot of hex/cond removal.

I was wondering how to inorporate Smite Hex into that bar myself, but I guess it owuld have meant taking out Reversal of Fortune...which I didn't really want to do. I *could* use Blessed Light, and I have thought about doing so, only it's 10 energy, and in my experience Heroes seem to like to spam those ones. I could take out Castigation Signet, I just don't want his energy to suffer. I may have a play around with Zealot's Fire, and see how it goes.

No, you're not casting Castigation Signet on an Ally, you use it on a Foe. That skill is there as Energy Management.

I was wondering if a monk would use air of enchantment right? No idea if they do, but that would provide some good energy management if they did.

Yes, I can see how it would be less effective in NM. Talky was casting DZ on recharge, but the bar I was running was pure smite/df so it only had RoD as a spammable skill. Have you tried running without RoF and seeing if the AI behaves better?

I think that smiter could take place of the second monk in a regular group. When you think about it, a smiter can protect a hero while killing off the enemies. If you can kill monsters quickly you won't take much damage, also your protecting the other heroes, so smiting could become more popular to steamroll some stuff along.

I don't think it's possible for a smiter to fully replace a healer or a prot in Gwen expansion or in Hard Mode. The issue is that you'll need a protter for Protective spirit and the damage reduction he provides (through Aegis and such). But you'll also need that LoD to cope with party-wide damage/degen (such as mandragors or jellys).
A smiter can be used as a second-only monk in most Normal mode of the three chapters, but I doubt it is the case for GWEN or HM. Maybe prophecies HM.
I use the build I proposed with a LoD healer with only [wiki]Cure Hex[/wiki] and a SoR or SoD or RC prot monk with only [wiki]Dismiss Condition[/wiki] when I know I'll face some really serious opposition/damage (Dungeons), so a third healer-cleaner that actually is dealing damage is a major plus.

Well, I still think it could be used for some high geared pve. Most people say a good defense= strong offense.
If you can quickly take down a few monsters that's less damage you'll take and less you'll need to protect from. I do suppose that most monsters have pretty high health but theirs still some ways to spike down enemies pretty quickly.

So do I, at least in Normal Mode. I tried taking Mhenlo, healing, and Ogden, smiting and we survived at least, but Ogden's build still needs work.
I may run with the Defender's Zeal idea and try as Cellardweller suggests, removing RoF. glountz

That's effectively an issue I don't really ressent, as I have always my general Morghan with Aria of Zeal and/or Master of Whispers with BRit so e-management is quite heavy and spamming BL doesn't really matter.
You can switch Blessed Light for any other Divine favor/Smite elite, including Defender's zeal. But if you do so you'll have to bring some hex removal on your other's monks. I used Blessed light because Mhenlo and Lina lacks effective hex/cond removal when I'm playing alone. Your divine boon build probably eat a lot more energy than mine, considering you lack one pip of regeneration and loose 2 energy a spell. I will try yours to see that. I use also the build I gave here on my monk character (who doesn't use blessed until it's the only heal available or if the character to heal is affected by both a hex and a cond). |
