Also, if you're in a guild/alliance group and you get just one person, they are a pup, pick-up person.

Well, they may be a pup, but they're commonly called pugs as well.

PuGs are to be avoided at all costs, association with PuGs may cause the following:

1) Unexplained party wipes
2) Extreme noobish behavior
3) Spreading of Horrific Skills bars
4) Extreme name calling
and last but not least
5) a Dead Wammo yelling at a Noob Monk "rez me A$$hole and don't take my gold weapon!!!!!"

The PUG experience can vary wildly. Which is why I generally prefer the company of guildmates or AI. Although today I joined a bonus group to kill Glint. The warrior of the team would pull groups needlessly, at one point causing the party to almost wipe. After asking him not to aggro and an apology by said warrior, not a minute later he did the same thing. I've been really short on patience with a.net in recent days so I was just dreading a failed bonus run.

But surprisingly we won it. Fairly easily. People were dying, sure, but Glint still fell. The warrior was kissing the canvas when Glint died. Bonding him worked for a while but Glint's a tough old bird. GG's all around and a hearty "take care."

Maybe we won because the PUG had two mesmers and one or two rangers...

Bottom line is, don't fear the PUG. In Mother Russia, PUG fears YOU.

A PUG is the Guild Wars equivalent of an endangered species.

And really, no one is trying to save them. Both praised and denegrated, they are a novel experience which can result in meeting really good players that are fun to play with and can lead to guild invites.

Unfortunately, the normal experience is to run into primadonna monks, idiot warriors, and other variations of jerks of the extreme variety.

If you are willing to be frustrated beyond belief you can attempt to find one that is a very rewarding experience. It used to be worth the effort, haven't felt the need to tryi in a while.
