Vizunah Square - What am I doing wrong?
kaeltos
I've made it to level 20 by running quests and missions with henchmen and heroes. It's been working OK so far, and even though they act a bit stupid at times, I've learned to control them to a point it's tolerable, and I can move through game content at a decent pace.
So.. I get to Vizunah Square (Local Quarter), get my party of henchmen and heroes together, and enter the mission. I wait while the timer counts down to enter. I wait while the timer counts down to start. I listen to Togo babble about "plague this, plague that". I follow him down to the courtyard. The mobs come, that we're supposed to fend off while Togo's friend arrives.
As soon as myself or any of my henchmen engage the mobs, my, and my entire party's health drop to 0, and I get the party defeated message. Togo and his friend both have full health bars (Togo is fighting and his friend is out of range, but still full).
Am I not allowed to run this mission with henchmen? I've even tried standing well out of range and having just my party engage thinking it was some nasty AoE, but I still go straight to dead with everyone else.
Any help would be appreciated.

An MM and nuker really make alot of difference in this mission. It could be possible this AoE you mentioned was because of aggroing too many enemies. In my experience, finding real people is usually the better way to go. The more firepower, the better.

You're SURE that both Togo and Mhenlo have full health? What normally happens on this mission is that you join, the other team asks over local chat (do you have it switched on?) if you are human or coming with heroes + hench, if they don't like your answer (or if you don't answer), they leave en masse and their NPC gets killed fast - mission ends.
Pretty stupid really, as the mission is very easily henched. Many experienced players bringing new characters through cantha leave from the int district and pray that they get an all hench team on the other side to avoid this happening.

Thanks for the replies, ya'll.
For some stupid reason (even though I read it on the wiki), it didn't "click" in my head that there were actually two seperate teams that got joined in the mission.
I'm positive that both NPC's health bars were full, unless they don't update correctly if they're out of range.
I could have sworn that I had local chat on, but I'll need to check again. I did turn off quite a few things, and that could have been one of them.
The thing that still bothers me is that I was dead. Not just a failure message, but dead. Whole party immediately having no life and laying on the ground with names greyed out. The last time I attempted this, I even stayed WELL out of range by parking my henchmen by Togo and going to about range 1.5 (using aggro circle on my mini map = 1) from any of the mobs we were supposed to fight.

Go to international districts and start there so you can be sure your alone. Henchmen teams are generally intelligent and will not die. If your in American districts you run the risk of getting actual people and actual people tend to be much worse then henchmen (Yea and you know its true).
You need to bring 1 or even 2 MM's since theres tons and tons of bodies layin around, might a well use them. And also an ele hero. Remianing should be monks / other ele nuke damage. You should have 0 problem doing this mission.
Target same targets as everyone else...stay in a big group....
Good luck,

V Square isn't too difficult, if you do some forward planning. An MM or two can be a great help, as can a couple of competent nukers.
Try to stay close to Togo and Mhenlo, and let the monsters come to you. If you're a Monk or Ritualist, keep an eye on Mhenlo and Togo's health bars, as well as the health bars for your team's other healers and the other team's healers (not easy to target the healers on the other team; you'll have to click on them individually once in a while to check on them). Your team can heal the other team, although you can't rez them.
And the most important thing is this - don't panic. The only difficult thing about V Square is the unnaturally large number of monsters that keep coming at you, and the panic that situation can cause to some players. Remember that there are two parties in this mission and relax - while there are a huge number of enemies, you also have a huge number of allies. If you start to panic and lose focus in this mission, you start to make mistakes; while the first mistake isn't usually so bad, the second or third mistakes can lead to a mission failure.

a MM hero, nuker hero, and someone with [skill]edge of extinction[/skill]
could become slightly counter-productive with minions but really lets rip to afflicted...if you are NM then losing minions is no-probs just build up the army again through a mass-genocide afflicted [skill]edge of extinction[/skill] style!

bring 2 MM heroes

Thanks again for the replys and help. Turns out that I had local chat off and I guess the other team was leaving the mission. I did the international district and was able to do it once with full henchmen (failed becuase Togo decided he needed to tank), and then got master with 2 live + henchmen on the other side.

I am having trouble with this mission as well. I use these 3 heroes, MM Olias, the Monk and the elementalist. I don't have Whispers because I am not far enough in NF to get him. I've tried about 4 times and every time either Mehnlo or the other guy dies.
The only reason why I am trying to do the mission is so I can get to Boreas Seabed to cap dragon slash elite. Is there a route or way I can take to get there without doing these missions in Factions?
Thanks...

Unfortunately, you cannot skip ahead geographically in Factions. To get to more advanced areas on the map, you need to unlock them by doing missions.
To get to Boreas Seabed, you will have to complete the Vizunah Square, Nahpui Quarter, Tahnnakai Temple, Arborstone and Boreas Seabed missions before you can enter the Boreas Seabed explorable area to cap Dragon Slash.

I posted a request that ANet tweak this mission because of how often I have tried to get thru it only to have the other team (human team) bail on me - no reason given, they just zone out. I have attempted to continue on, but get slaughtered on the 2nd to last group - just too many Afflicted for 1 8-man team to handle. (I've always done H&H because getting coordinated teams has been a challenge.)
I asked that they make it so that if the other team is going to bail, you get a message (like they do for skipping the cut-scenes), and that they provide you an 8-man henchman team as replacement.
I understand the idea behind the Coop mission, but in reality it tends to suck. (As most players will attest.) This one frsutrated the Heck out of me when I was trying to get my Paragon from Elona thru this mission. I had 7 tries in a row where the other team bailed on me! I pretty much had given up, but tried again the other day and on my 3rd attempt got a human player with H&H (some from GWEN) and we got thru with a Master's rating. (Yeah!) But the number of times I got screwed by the other team zoning out really pissed me off since I had no recourse but to rezone and try again. (It really sucks when you've gotten past the first two mobs and then they bail! I guess they wanted Master's and figured the it was taking too long and they wouldn't make it. Like I didn't want Master's, too?)
Two human players (1 from each quarter) plus H&H makes this mission much easier, but I have gotten Master's with just my H&H team and an all AI henchman team for the other. MM and SF Ele work best thru this mission. Keep an eye to take out any Afflicted Ritualists! They keep resurrecting fallen enemies, and make the battles go on too long! When there's a pair of them, it can be a real b-tch if you don't take them both out.
Good luck, all!

It seems this is one of those missions where they want to promote grouping with other people, sorta giving a taste of what you should encounter. Unfortunately it works in that sense and continually affirms why I hate playing with other characters. It is also why you see a VAST reduction of people after each of those two missions - most people only go as far as they need for elites (and don't even go there at all now that we have elite tomes).

This would solve the leaver issue in general - as of now if someone leaves you get their heroes but not them, why not allow their old characters to be taken over by AI when they leave (like a hero)? Eh, again it's been an issue for over 2 years, I do not expect it to be fixed any time soon and I suspect that it is more a "vision" issue than a technical one.

I too have tasted the bitter sting of having a human party bail on me. It's an extremely unpleasant feeling and makes you want to party up even less.
If you're feeling it in Vizunah Square, then Unwaking Water might be an even worse surprise. I got an all hench team once and didn't stand a chance against Kunnavang on my first try despite doing things right. On my second attempt the local team was composed of two relatively competent people and their H/H team and we easily beat the dragon. gloria vander belt
LMAO, i went to international(so no-one was in local quater or foreign) had 2 MM's, 1 monk(heros), rest henchies, 1 tank, 1 monk, 1 ele and 1 mesmer, the other team was just hecnhmen, i ran masters very easily, so it may be a game glitch ur suffering or it may be that 1 of the 2 guys are getting killed try staying right next to Master Togo and Brother Mehnlo as much as possible
other then that there is not much more i can say repeat the same for kuunavang(Unwaking Waters) but replace 1 MM with a ranged fighter(ele or ranger) remeber International district is completely empty 99% of the time |
