Looking for tips on leveling builds.
Assume monks that have not yet, ch1 wise, reached Lion's Arch. For Ch's 2 and 3 - not yet left the islands.
So no access to elite skills, and only partial access to the regular skills.
Myself, I have a level 14 monk in Nightfall, and a level 5 in Prophesies (still pre-searing). As soon as the prophesies monk hits post-searing, I'll be thinking of a build for her based on what I can get out of Ascalon and the nearby towns.
For the Nightfall Monk, I'm trying for protection, and I have every town on the island - but with no elite access, none of the various build guides online fit me. All those guides assume people who have finished the game... rarely are they built for people still playing the PvE game...
So...
Any tips? Any leveling builds?
Leveling builds?

just go with the flow, you cant really make a great build at level 14 with only a few attribute points, i find being level 14 allows me to play about with builds till i find things i like and witch work well together. just play around do missions and quest and your be in the mainland at no time, there go and cap some elite skills such as [skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill] and [skill]Zealous Benediction[/skill] they are very nice moves and are easy to cap early on. when you get to level 20 or so get all the skills witch you think work together and you have yourself a build. and no need of a leveling build

There is that, but I guess what I want is builds that will help me learn monking better. By the time I get to the point where a team is depending on me, I want to have the human skills to uphold my end.
I know I like the concept of a protection monk, but I'm shaky on the play of one. Right now I find myself just clicking anything that isn't recharging ( ) and using the '<' and '>' keys to move between party members (heroes and henchies) as fast as I can.
When I get home and can log in, I'll post my current "build" for people to lol at (on the 14 monk, the pre-searing one of course, has no choice in what she has).
One further problem I have is that I chose 'Paragon' as secondary without thinking (they make you pick too early on) and a search at the builds wiki at least turned up zero builds for that combo, leading me to believe its disfavored. So until I can change class - even at high level I'll be doing monk-skill only builds. Unless I'm misreading the info.

It's very feasible to run a 55 monk on trolls at lvl 9 if you're careful. Hell, you can even run it without Mantra of Resolve or other anti-interrupts.
But it's probably not your best bet since you are looking only around Ascalon. Keep it in mind though. :P
