Make all weapons / armors dyable!
TsunamiZ
There are some weapons / armors in which we like the skin / shape but not the color. So how about make all weapons / armors dyable?? Why is it that some weapons / armors are dyable and some not? Is it just a way to save time when making the game at the expensive of our enjoyment?
reverse_oreo
what? Could you rephrase that so a normal human could understand? i would say 99% of all weapons and armors are dye able, not including greens. Some weapons only the handle is dye able...ect. srsly QQ moar. STOP CRYING ABOUT A FREE GAME GUYS SERIOUSLY

Please list one armor that can't be dyed.
Now, the "wrong" part might be dyed (trim instead of the main piece), but everything can be dyed. A.net's art team can't please everybody with every possible combination of dye requests.

Most focus items can't be dyed.
Blindfold can't be dyed.
Some swords can't be dyed.
Spectacles can't be dyed.
Destroyer Gauntlets can't be dyed.
To list a few. If you guys want me to look up which swords and off-hands can't be dyed, lemme know... Though it'll take me a while.

I have noticed some of the off hands can be dyed if they have no inscription slot. ie. If they came from factions or proph but the same skin in nf or gwen doesn't dye. which kinda upsets me.

ive always been annoyed that not everything is dyable since the 1st guild wars. and ive wondered what the reason for that decision was. i mean, why not make them all dyable to multiply the variety of items we would LIKE to use?

I remember GW, before its initial release, advertising itself by its lack of subscribtion fee and high degree of estethic customisation (saying that it'd be very difficult for 2 PCs to look alike). The combination of these 2 factors made the franchise so irresistible back then.
Guild Wars is not a free game; it's merely subscribtion-free.
Accursed (Collector's) Staffs from Tyria can be dyed, while Accursed (Collector's) Staffs from Cantha can't. Both staffs are identical in appearance and stats, except for the Tyrian having dark damage and the Canthan cold damage. Its upsetting, because there's no excuse for this.

Stand alone pieces are not what the OP seems to be indicated Felix since he specifically said "armor." I might as well complain about the non-dyeable pumpkin helm (wah!!! must have purple pumpkin helment).
Most of the stuff that can't be dyed kinda makes sense. Although I support your claim now that I see where you are coming from, I still think there are higher priorities, especially due to the large number of glitched and unpolished content a.net just released that is GW:EN.

The complete dye system needs a revamp.
With changes in textures and all.
I would also make greens and gold ones the only dyable ones, and making common and uncommon not dyable, to give an extra 'bang' to the rarity.

but nonetheless, making all items dyable would be a big leap forward towards the guild wars dye experience that we all hoped for and expected since the beginning.

Yup, the main problem with dies n armor is this:
- If you add one color. It dies 'somehow' correctly.
- If you add two or more, they get mixed with the 'base' texture color.
For example, to get 'gold' in elementalist armor, you have to use orange and green (???!!!). If you use silver and yellow, you get an awful 'dirty water' color.

I can sort of understand why there's a discrepancy. I mean, metal colors differently than cloth. But there's no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to color the newer standalones.

I can see both sides here...
Yes, I do agree that skins that are currently dyable from one campaign but not another SHOULD be universally dyable, and also that the skins that ALLOW dying but have no visual change should be either unable to be dyed, or have the colouring fixed so the dye shows.
Although, I don't agree with ALL weapons being dyable, as things like Celestial, Zodiac & Tormented skins etc should remain in their unique "glittery" appearance...

There are some skins I like, such as the Deathstaff that looks like a claw. However, because I cannot dye it white I won't bother to try and get one. And I also agree that there are things that should be dye-able on the other end of what is dyed. The lotus staff is one of them. The part that is green should be dye-able, as it is flower petals that change color between hybrids. There is a Dervish Armor I generally like shape wise, but becasue it is only camel hair brown with tiny bits of dye-able trim I have trouble bringing myself to consider working for it.
I frequently look up weapon and armor skins to see if any of them would fit the character in question. Most often I end up retailoring my interest to a limited number of things because the options do not exist for customizing the appearence to the theme of my character. And in addition, if a certain item can have more than one attribute link, color is the primary way of knowing that I grabbed the right item when I make a harried switch off. If I cannot do this, then there is no reason to consider using that skin as a part of my character's theme.
