how to get amor

hey guys.

im pretty new to guild wars and need help (yes im a noob)

what i need help is how/where do i find or get amour for my pure monk i cant seem to find any and im getting confused, thanks guys.

You can get them from Collector's, or you can buy them from Armor Crafters in towns/outposts with the cost of money and materials.

In Guild wars, a character can only get armor by having it made specifically for the character. You cannot find armor as drops form enemies or similar. You also can't trade for it. Well, you can, but you can't use another person's armor.

There are two types of NPCs that craft armor.

The first are the collectors. These will trade you a piece of armor in exchange for the items that they collect. The armor from these is a "budget" variant - it doesn't have the full functionality, but it is cheap and will get the job done.

The second are the armorsmiths. They can be found in various towns and outposts (with the rare exception outside in an instance). They will craft your armor in exchange for gold and crafting materials. Consult gw.gamewikis.org or wiki.guildwars.com for data on who crafts which armor and where the armorsmith is.

Things to note:
-not all armorsmiths make "full power" armor. At the beginning of the game, you will find armorsmiths that will create much cheaper armor that is not at full armor level
-maximum armor levels available: Warrior, Paragon: 80, Dervish, Assassin, Ranger: 70, others: 60. (some armors get an extra bonus. All warrior armor, for example, has an additional 20 armor against physical damage)
-maximum armor will cost at least 1000 gold per piece to craft. Other, more expensive armor, DOES NOT GRANT MORE DEFENSE - it just looks better. Usually.
-armor does not add up. Every incoming hit will hit a specific location, and only armor in that location will be used. So, if you have a headpiece with 10 armor and a chest piece with 60 armor, any hit to the chest will do little damage while a hit to the head will do an abnormal amount of damage

It depends on where in the game you are. In pre-sear, the only place to get it is from collectors. When you get to post, you can get it right away in ascalon from the crafter, or if you're broke, again from the collectors.

so im in the begining area are there any places to find it there?
and when i finish the begining are where abouts on the "big map" are armor crafters.

If you're in Prophecies, the first armor crafters are in post-searing Ascalon City. There are 2 crafters there, each offering different strengths of armor in 2 styles (you'll come across more styles as you progress through the campaign)

you have to go to Main Towns and you will see some person with [Armor]

talk to them and then get materials and craft them.

so this is in the first area.

There are three "first areas". Each campaign has its own.

-if you are in GW:Prophecies (campaign 1), you are likely in "presearing". The only source of armor there are the collectors. Once you leave presearing, you will be in Ascalon city 2 years later, and you will find armor crafters there. You will find stronger armor crafters as you progress with the storyline. The first opportunity to get max armor is in Droknar's forge - that's in the second half of the storyline.

-if you are in GW:Factions, you have armor crafters available earlier. The first maximum power armor crafters are in and around Kaineng city on the mainland. That's relatively early in the story.

-if you are in GW: Nightfall, you have armor crafters available right away. The first maximum power armor crafters are in the consulate docks, which is just after you finish all the primary quests and missions on the island of Istan.

My question is what is the difference between Monk and Censor Armor? I had Monk and then switched to Censor at Yak on advise from someone I was grouping in. it was late and I only noticed after that the stats were exactly the same, the only difference was cosmetic.

I myself have actually started and understand where you get the armor but I have a question on styles.

Can you take various styles with Max AL? Or do you have to change styles to get the armor that does have Max AL?

Meaning I like the look of say Krytan but not Luxon, can I get the Krytan in a MAX AL for my level?

Back in the day it used to be that armor sets had built-in bonuses. So censors had +10 armor vs physical dmg.

Now, you have to buy your own bonuses and apply them to the armor. So you can have +10 armor vs physical dmg without having to wear the censor style armor.
-the price of armor sets was lowered to compensate for the fact that they come w/ no "insignias" (bonuses)

Yes, all armor styles are available as max armor from somewhere. Refer to the armor section of the GW wiki and check individual style pages to find out which crafter offers the max armor versions of each style.
