Nornbear Cost Me My Survivor Title
Amorfati87
This isn't just a rant, ok, maybe it is, but here is the story and I'm not lying or changing any events. Everything stated below is the absolute truth.
I was at 960,000+ exp, I was hunting the Nornbear, I was at the end where you get to kill him. I'm a Paragon, I had at the time 641 health, had the extra from norn title track on. The stupid Nornbear kept trying to disappear even though he is supposed to be killed at this point. He disappears and my team stops, he reappears and suddenly my Survivor is dead. Nothing on screen to say what killed me. Just 1 death registered. None of my other team members died btw. I had 3 monks (Dunkoro, Mhenlo, Lina), 1 Mesmer (Lo Shea), 1 Earth Ele (Herta), 1 Fire Ele (Zhed), 1 MM Bomber (Olias). Everyone lived, but me.
This is total freaking BS. I think at the very least I deserve some type of explanation. Please tell me this isn't Anet's idea of a joke. You know, like those really funny rolling rocks that kill you and make you freak out for a few mintues until you realize it doesn't register a death penalty. Yeah that's comedy gold right there...
Insta death kill, just perfect. That's a great idea.
Not prepared for? How can you prepare for a monster with an insta-death skill.
And people aren't allowed to take Survivor's into GW:EN?
Anyway, thanks for all the support guys. Close the thread since I now see there is another one.

The norn bear has a skill that insta-kills people if his health is low enough when he uses it. It happens. Its sorta your fault for doing quests on a survivor that you aren't prepared for.

Maybe because you should have been survivor long before you went into GW:EN areas?!?
Maybe finishing one of the campaigns first like others do, then playing the expansion... Hell, even finishing the storyline's maybe?

They don't call it the Nornbear for nothing.
If you think he's unfair, try fighting 3 enemy with Twisting Jaws (retartedly overpowered monster skill, you must be plain retarted to come up with such a skill.)

Ouch. I do feel sorry for you. 960,00 exp on survivor is nothing to sneeze at, especially when it's so close to legendary.

But lets not change the topic now as this has nothing to do with the Nornbear.

I have never had a problem with the nornbear. He's never killed anybody in my party. As a matter of fact, yesterday I was doing it on my monk, with a modified version of this necro build. Olias and Master were shutting him down so completely that he couldn't cast his disappearing skill. We must have done enough damage to kill him 10 times over, and none of us died. (When his bar reaches zero and he's not supposed to die, it instantly fills back up to about 20%.)
As far as your runes go, why are you using a major divine favor? Is that extra 3.2 health per heal really worth 35 of your own health? A superior healing I can *almost* see, but since the reward for a superior rune is 12 or 24 hp per heal on WoH at the cost of 75 health, it doesn't really seem worth it. Especially when you consider that in PvE, a monk should have the highest health on the team, because the AI targets low health first. The only superior monk rune that's worth it in a team situation is protection, because of the increased enchantment durations. 3 extra seconds of protective spirit is worth a lot more than 24 extra health from WoH.

You should always beat a campaign and feel completely familiar and comfortable with it before moving your survivor over, especially at such a high experience rating. I doubt you beat Eye of the North enough times to know what to expect at every turn, so consider this a learning experience.
I'm not being a jerk, I'm just being blunt. It happened to me too. I lost an indomitable survivor because I attempted a farming build I never used before. It happens.

Failing to prepare means preparing to fail.

Supposed to? No. Its High level content, Its not been around for long enough for things like this to surface to the whole community, and as you said, you can't prepare for something that has insta death skill, so don't go anywhere into the unknown.

He did ask for it to be closed, so I guess it's closed.
