Glacial Gloves now require 100 stones?
Pwny Ride
Okay so after a while, i decided to go nab me some glacial gauntlets, just for show. I didnt bother before since i was busy getting other armor sets etc. This was, alas, last on my to do list.
Lucky i checked wiki before i did this, turns out instead of the old 35, the gloves now require a whopping 100 Glacial Stones to be traded in the collector.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Glacial_Gauntlets
Now i really dont complain about anything in Guild Wars, but this change, this foolish and rather unjustified update has gotten on the wrong side of me. I dont mean to sound all whiny anyways, i just wanted to see what others think of this.
Discuss.
EDIT: Can a mod please correct the spelling error on the thread title? Thanks :P

Trouble is a lot of things changed after the preview.
Given that these things never seem to drop, i'd have said 35 was more than enough myself. I have nearly completed the game and have only had 2 drop.

Only seen 1 drop during general play, but had 5 drop during the preview.

lol I agree, 35 is more than enough, 50 is better imo. I only have 5 drop for me. Then again I never did farm for it. A lot of people do have the gloves, though. So is it that hard to farm the glacial stones?

If you want to farm them then read here :

R touch build works well there too.

2 characters through the game, 3 others at different points, I've seen 2 drop since the preview event.
Well, someone on this forum wanted more grind...seems someone at ANet was listening.

Poked some Spectral Vaettirs with my ele last night, just to see how much effort would it be to get a pair of gloves. Clearing the area twice yielded 4 stones for a solo run - too much effort for me at the moment but I might revisit the place once HM is introduced and the rest of the loot gets better.
Was not impressed by the huge increase in the required number of collectables.
Was not impressed by vaettirs having intrinsic 160AL either. Level 20 mesmers, what takes?

Those white ghostly flying thing? That's why our dmg output were a lot lower, I thought it was a bug. lol 160AL for a mesmer, What the deuce?
Pwny Ride
In my oppinion, these should have been craftable at an Armor Crafter, in specific the norn crafter in Gunnars Hold, like the other gauntlets (minus the magma gauntlets, which should have been craftable at Central Transfer Chamber, along with the destroyer weapons.)
EDIT: Spectral Vaettir use Elemental or Psysical Resistance, iirc.

note that their 160AL is against elemental dmg

160 armour?
I never even noticed.... but then I play a sin. Armour-ignoring damage FTW.

No, Spectral Vaettirs don't use any mantras, it's intrinsic, and I tried other damage types as well, including holy - a r5 Light of Deldrimor did 10 damage to vaettirs. Not that it would matter, there are enough armor ignoring sources of damage in the game, I just find it extremely irregular
RTSFirebat
Thanks tmak I was wondering why those blasted things always took so much effort to kill.

You were being a tiny bit niave to think the requirement wouldnt change after the preview. Anet would have been using the preview to check how easily people got those rare drops and how easily they got onto the market.
Probably realised they werent too expensive and drops werent too bad and though to increase it.
100 isnt that bad if you buy them for 100-200g each.
Its better then the ninja mask which takes 250 sup char carvs.

Their drops is just too low. So far I only got them from bosses. 1 of them. And I cleared all Norn areas at least once.

I dont see why it should have changed at all, especially with how broken the drop rate is. I mean take a look at Diessa Chalices and their droprates. If the droprates where substantially increased, then i can easily understand the upped requirement.
However nothing effective has been done to change the droprates. There isnt any substantial reasoning behind increasing the stone cost. Unless Gaile and co. can comment at all on this.

They figure that hopefully it will distract you for a while from noticing how much they have totally failed to add new content to GW:EN.

It was obviously changed because they were far too easy to get. I managed to get the 35 needed in the preview event in less than half an hour by using that farming technique. The armour pieces like this would just be ruined, in my opinion, if they're too easy to obtain. The rarity is what makes them special.
The dread mask on the other hand is taking it too far. They only seem to drop in one place and are very rare. I don't think anyone has managed to get it yet.

Guild Wars: Eye of the North - An introduction to World of Warcraft
EDIT: Winter, you should not need to use a gimmick such as a 55 build to get the gloves in under a week. Remember not everyone is able to farm in such a way. If A-net is so obsessed with balance, which is now slowly affecting PvE, they would make a way that is easily done by all professions.

They figure that hopefully it will distract you for a while from noticing how much they have totally failed to add new content to GW:EN. And the alternative was to what? just give all the prestige armor away without requiring materials and/or gold?
That would be fun watching everyone ingame running around with the exact same gloves!
Anet had to make these prestige armors a bit hard to get otherwise evryone would have them within a week. And who ingame isnt going to try and get atleast one set of prestige armor?
You know you're ll curious, even if alot of it is crap!
The once everyone has them, they will loose their apeal and it'l soon be "oh look another person with glacial gloves... woop woop!!"
I have the ninja mask and stone gauntlets and I cant say im that impressed. Im just focusing on getting more full armor sets now.
We should have got alot more prestige armor to cover the fact that soon everyone will have them.

That would be fun watching everyone ingame running around with the exact same gloves! Aside from the people who decided on a different pair of gloves... (there are 4 sets, aren't there?) ..... or those like myself who don't fancy wearing an odd-looking bit of hand-decoration instead of proper gauntlets or gloves...
I'm not getting Glacial Gauntlets. It isn't because of the cost... but because having iced over hands doesn't go with any of my suits of armour. kthxbye.
I plan on getting Norn armour for my Monk and Rit.... but the rest of the Eye of the North kit I plan on leaving well enough alone.

QFT. I'm not sure why people seem to love these "special armor items" so much. Yes, ok, they're novel, but 95% of the time you just look plain stupid wearing them. This is especially the case with the Dragon Gauntlets...When I saw them I thought "WHY?". They're colossal, truly hideous, but as usual, adored by wammos...I guess it's because they share part of their name with Fiery Dragon Sword. The only "special armors" i've liked so far are the Chaos Gloves and the Glasses. I'll not be getting either, however. Firstly, I'll not be saving up 75 ecto, and I consider 10k for glasses to be a rip off.
Although I do not intend Acquiring them because I want them, however, I'll keep any collectors items for the "special armors"...y'know, just in case in 5 months time ANet decide they will actually have a use for something other than bragging rights.

Give me a break - these are easy to farm. I can get enough stones for a pair of gloves in a few hours. I decided I wanted a pair, so I farmed it in under a day (I did a few runs in the morning, some while the kids were napping, then some after they were in bed).
Given that I'm a parent without a ton of time to spend in game they're pretty darn accessible.

3 character so far, and like 20 run to superman...i mean vaettirs and only 2 stone so far... They're right next to a zone-portal.
Kill the Vaettir, zone out, zone in, repeat.
Each "run" besides the first takes a mere matter of a few minutes.

Zoning in and out for 100 times must be a pain in the eyes, wearing glasses is not fun u know?

Yeah, as mentioned, there are 15 Vaettir near a zone portal. I get about 3 stones per run there, I've had as few as 0, and as many as 5 I think. Each run is probably 10 minutes or so my way, which is slow, but I am not much of a farmer. At 3 stones per 10 minutes it's 18 stones an hour, or under 6 hours for the gloves.
6 hours really isn't that much time - it's a few evenings at 1.5 hours a night for example - well within the reach of even a pretty casual player. Doing it in a day was really boring, but it was a weekday, I got in a half hour? in the morning, 2 hours at nap time and probably played 3 hours or so after the kids were in bed. Presto, gloves.
I'm sure faster builds could easily be made, and the run could be cut to a few minutes, cranking out the stones.

Hexum
Then everyone who got these gloves during the preview should have to cough up the difference.
Chrono Re delle Ere
2 hours of ranger farm and I got the gloves. So, why are you crying about this update? The drop rate is high (when you farm them) and they are easy to farm too. Anybody remembers when one ambrace could be traded for 25 gem sets? And I must say that I saw people having tormented items in that period. They lost something like uhm....considering titan gems 100k each at that time, I'd say 1.5 milions. We are lucky ;D

Do you own stock in the company?
Just curious is all.

I must admit, I'd love to have a pair of these gloves but it be funny to wear them every now and again, but 100 stones is just too much.
I don't have the time and I don't have the gold. Any gold I make is better spent on other things like skills, lockpicks and thing towards titles.
I feel 50-60 stones would be a more relaxed target. I regret not getting these during the preview when 35 is a ideal target.
