FOW quest Tower of Strength bugged?

We need help, we are currently doing this quest in FOW: Tower of strength, where The Tower Mage is supposed to open the door after clearing the area.
We cleared the area of patrols and infernal wurms. We took him and he is near the door but he won't open it.
Has this happened to others, and is there something we are missing?

Exit the forge to the south and keep to the left. You will find several strong patrols of Shadow Army creatures and a lot of hidden Shadow Beasts on your way, so advance carefully. The Shadow Patrols that have to be killed are five single beasts similar to Abyssals. Unfortunately they are accompanied by large numbers of other shadow creatures and some Infernal Wurms.

When the Tower of Strength comes into sight, keep close to the right wall and always fight only one group at a time. With careful luring you can use the geography of this place to your advantage: There is a path leading down towards the tower with a ridge at it's side. Spellcasters and Rangers should stay on that ridge and Warriors should lure the opponents to the place directly below the ridge. If done right this will keep the fragile party members out of harms reach (at least from the powerful melee attacks of the Abyssals) but still enable them to participate in the fight.

After the way to the tower is cleared you will have to send one of your party members back to the forge to fetch the Tower Mage (who is one of the Eternal Sigil Mages mentioned by Lord Taeres in the initial quest dialogue), he will not start moving until a player comes within radar range of him. Also, if you haven't cleared the whole area of any opponents, the mage may stop his advance when coming close to the tower. If this happens you have to kill some more of the nearby enemies to make him move again. This includes the three Infernal Wurms along the way.

When coming close to the gate, he will open it. The Shadow Lord that will then spawn all alone inside the tower and shouldn't pose any threat whatsoever.

The OP has cleared out everything, but the ghost was sitting pretty instead of opening the gate. in the picture the gate is still closed, but the ghost is not doing his job, i.e. opening the gate. this is clearly a bug and hopefully solved asap.

Thnx for the replies.
We just finished all the quests in FOW except the tower of strength and still the tower mage is there near the door but he just won't open it.
I guess we still need to do this again for the HOM sculpture (title).
BTW:
we did this with two real players and 6 heroes in normal mode.
We opened 3 chest rewards but there were no drops (maybe because we didn't flag the heroes away).
It took us almost 5 hours with 1.5 hour afk/break.
total 8 shards. 0 gold drops. 5 normal chests.

Edit:
to enter the fow we used a scroll.

There have been multiple reports here and on gwonline about buggy and uncompleteable quests in the UW and FoW when using scrolls.

Did you kill the siege wurms before or after running back to grab the tower mage? I've seen the mage get stuck because the wurms were shooting at him, causing his path to go off course.

A few guildies have reported this as well, and I doubt they left anything alive first, as we clear before escorting.

Did you have a MM in the team? As it's possible for the mage to go try heal the minions and be dragged off route. Same thing can happen in Nundu bay. and with the eternals in the battlefield in FoW.

When we've done it before we've only sent one guy back, who escorts him back. However, the number of people who have reported this happening seems to be too high for something not to be amiss.

Just completed a Fow Clear with some guildies and heros. The tower mage behaved ok. We made sure the tower of strength area was cleared first, then went back to collect the quest. After killing the patrols we flagged all heroes well out of the way and one of us went back to collect the mage. They must have reduced the time it takes for him to be active as he was past the Khobay turn off by the time I came to find him.

I kept him in my aggro circle all the time and escorted him to the tower where he then opened the gate.

I did some asking around and where people have deviated from the above is when it's been bugged.

It was a long time ago since we've been in this area of fow. So we got the tower mage before killing the last siege wurm. After killing the siege wurm the tower mage still wouldn't open the door.

As you can see in this screenie the tower mage is actually quite near the door


We did have a Nec hero who made a few minions. I lured the tower mage (who was healing the minions) with the minions so that he actually stood next to the door but even then he wouldn't open it.

I even tried disconnecting to see what happens, didn't help though;


Well it was not a complete waste of time, it got me my armor for HOM:

A few things might have contributed to this bug:
- we used a scroll (i can't remember whether we had favour of the Gods)
- we got the tower mage before clearing the entire area of siege wurms.
Well next time we'll try clearing out the area first. Too bad we have to do this over again for the HOM..

I think you might be on to something here (I'm quite new in this stuff so this might be common knowledge, dunno). I was doing a primary quest in factions, "to Tahnakia Temple". It's the quest where you go to Mehnlo, he then leads you to Togo and Nika. I was h/h to progress in factions, this time I brought a minion master hero. After leading him to where Togo and rest would spawn. He gets bugged he runs away without spawning the afflicteds.
I followed him and lured him back with the minions (who he seemed to heal) to where Togo et al spawned but to no avail. The afflicteds didn't spawn.
I am gonna try this another day again but no MM for the time being...

Can anyone report this to ANet, they should look into this IMO...

A member of this forum suggested that minions cause the scripting for the NPC's walk to break (if this makes sense to you).

Quests: Tower of Strength in Fissure of Woe.
Bug? Tower mage will not open tower when minions are around.

Quests: To Tahnakai Temple
Bug? Mehnlo will not activate the next steps in the quests in my case even though Togo, Nika and others spawned the afflicteds didn't.
