A build better than SS?
System_Crush
This is a find me a build thread in disguise.
I just hate SS being the in all, end all of High end PvE.
I've tried other builds but SS just seems to be the only one that is effective enough to stay standing near the end of a campaign.
There's nothing wrong with SS and its a great build, except I've used it for so much I'm getting pretty fed up with it, it's become boring and I want something to variate with.
My SS:
Curses 12+4
Soul Reaping 12+3
[skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill]
[skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill]
[skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill]
[skill]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill]
[skill]Hexer's Vigor[/skill]
[skill]Signet of Sorrow[/skill]
[skill]Rend Enchantments[/skill]/[skill=text]Mark of Pain[/skill]/[skill=text]Defile Defenses[/skill]
[skill]Resurrect[/skill]/[skill=text]Resurrection Signet[/skill]/[skill=text]Sunspear Resurrection Signet[/skill]
This was probably on the forum already but Hexer's Vigor description is wrong, says it ends when you cast a non hex spell, instead it ends whenever you use any non hex skill.
Now I've been working on something to replace it by myself, I've got plenty of MM builds, but minions just get wasted to quickly and high end mobs are often just a bit too able to exploit corpses.
So rejected most of the MM builds.
I have some blood magic from my PvP builds, but if I need single target spiking while there are monks in the team I find I'm better off with an ele.
Wile I'm sure everyone disagrees with the above, and you are welcome to offer me MM and Blood team builds that work high end;
This is what came the closest to matching SS effectiveness.
Wild Discord:
(TY Turbobusa for attribute advice)
Death Magic 12+4
Wilderness survival 10
Soul Reaping 8+3
[skill]Poison Tip Signet[/skill] (the condition for discord, good duration and fast recharge, plain better than weakness trough curses)
[skill]Discord[/skill]
[skill]Verata's Gaze[/skill]
[skill]Malign Intervention[/skill] (the hex for discord, recharges quickly and diminishes healing which is why I think it's good)
[skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]/[skill=text]Taste of Pain[/skill]
[skill]Animate Vampiric Horror[/skill] (For self healing)
[skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill] (To make foes bleed simplifying discord conditions)
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
This is not a MM build! thats why there's no BotM the minions are there just there for additional damage and support.
It deals fine damage, provided the foe is fleshy.
It just takes too long, by the time I have a foe conditioned and hexed I can only cast discord twice before my team takes it down, only if a foe is already suffering from a condition and a hex(yay for Mark of Rogort ele's) then I can wail away with discord and really be the spiker in the team.
Its great against bosses though, then discord really pays off.
Does anyone have suggestions for a better than SS build? Have the same problem, or suggestions on how to improve Wild Discord?
P.S. High end of a campaign means: Titans, Demons & Margonites, Shiroken and basically most of GWEN.

if youhave a melee in your team, withering aura is great for discord, as weakness can be applied on everyone, wheras poison only works on fleshy foes.
ho and if you really want to bring poison tip signet, lower wilderness survival. you dont need that much points to have a good duration. I think you don't even need points.

Thanx for the advice Turbobusa I'll try it out soon as I can.

Spoil Victor.
Right now I'm running:
Air of Superiority - Arcane Echo - Spoil Victor - Life Siphon - Necrosis - Angorodon's Gaze - Signet of Lost Souls - Summon <x> (Usually Ice Imp)
Max Blood Max SR
Works perfectly. Might want to switch Siphon for Parasitic Bond, cut off one off SR and put some in Curses.
If you don't want to play around with Asura skills, use:
Arcane Echo - Spoil Victor - Life Siphon - Web of Disruption - Cry of Pain - Necrosis - Angorodon's Gaze - Signet of Lost Souls

i'd replace life siphon in your build by blood drinker to get angorodon's gaze's bonus
Moloch Vein
Life Siphon is a cover hex in this build. However it is fairly expensive and casts a little slower which is why Parasitic Bond might be preferrable. Mark of Fury would also be ok if you use physical henchmen or heroes. Running a hex build with no cover hex has always struck me as very bad.
The point of Angorodon in this build isn't to fulfil the requirement. The simple truth is that Angorodon has made Vampiric Gaze obsolete. It's a "lifesaver" spell and thus you will normally be using it under fire. Chances are that you're already suffering from some condition by then. It should not be used when you're in good shape, and if your team is in good shape, your bleeding will be stripped by the hench/hero monks anyway. Necrosis does more damage for less cost and shorter recharge.

I have another one that should be quite effective, don't have Signet of Midnight yet though, but as it is somewhat obvious I want to ask if anyone has already tried this?
Blind Gazer
Soul Reaping 12+3
Blood Magic 12+4
1) Signet of Midnight
2) Epidemic
3) Signet of Lost Souls
4) Arcane Echo
5) Angorodon's Gaze
6) Awaken the Blood
7) Blood Drinker
8) Resurrection Signet
(echo is for Angorodon's Gaze)
If you have tried this please tell me your findings
Most importantly is the touch range for midnight to dangerous?

Moloch Vein
Blood Drinker is pointless if you use SoM thus already have a condition on you.
Touch range as in charging into a large PvE mob is probably a recipe for suicide. I'd wager all of them aren't likely to be stupid wammos.

It's there as a backup, in case the monk frenzies;
And You are probably right about touch range, scrapped.

R!ghteous Ind!gnation
Touch range is very possible esp considering the touched foe would then be blind as well... like a stance with 90% block... not bad
System_Crush
Yes and Epidemic allows you to blind all adjacent foes as well.
Point is weather or not you draw aggro from non physical attackers.
Fortunately blind is not broken by unblockable attacks, of which there are plenty in the high end PvE mob's skill bars.
I'm keeping it as an Aspenwood/Thirsty River Farming build though, it definitely has advantages there.

ever heard of [skill]enfeebling blood[/skill] and [skill]suffering[/skill] these 2 skills solve your [skill]discord[/skill] problems... 1 cast of each AoE has hex+condition and you pick them up 1 by 1
and here is an original build that can be pretty fun and nasty to play in PvE
Necro/Paragorn with [skill]"It's just a flesh wound."[/skill] and [skill]plague sending[/skill] and/or [skill]plague touch[/skill] mass deep wound anyone? and remove conditions from your allies, how awsome is that? you can also add [skill]Chilblains[/skill] for a cover condition and enchantment removal from foes. gets even better heh...

try this one, I made it for pvp but its well balanced and you have an easy time surviving/killing anywhere.
vamp gaze
vamp touch
blood of agressor
soul leech
riposte
deadly riposte
heal signet
res
so basically its pvp anti meelee but fends well against casters, use riposte to cover ur heal signet usage and no meelee can beat you 1 on 1, 2 on one you have to time ripostes for one guy to take the damage (takes while to master). soul leech is for casters as build is so inately good anti meelee you dont need an anti meelee elite (note u can use both on dervish type characters). everything you do winds up healing you. its totally fun and easy to play and completely original. if you rune up 620-30 hp with 55 energy your alot more effetive than with just energy.
you need +5 energy sword +30 hp and offhand like shadestone, blood 14, tactics 12 remaining 3points in soul reaping. be awarefollowing dervishes forcefully makes them trigger ripostes even if there not targeting you (they swing at everything). its an aweome build and fun alternative.

Somebody stop him hes doing it again....
Yeah populations build isnt great. Stick with some of the other suggestions
(You can find 2 very long locked threads discussing why its bad if you want, but im going to leave it out of here so it doesnt get locked itself )
SV is very useful especially when you hit the end areas for the same reason SS is effective. Also has the added bounus of making boss fights a breeze.
An MM still works well in higher areas, but you hit on the key cons to them. Can still be nice to take 1 into areas without to much AoE, even though they still go down fast its still a lot of dmg that your monks dont have to deal with.

one day i will be hailed as a guild wars genious for inventing this build.

so you try to pull off a crappy version of a toucher as "original"? yeah, real smart.

Well you are right zling, I had tried curses, but I had failed because I was spending too much energy putting hexes and conditions on foes, And I was certain I needed [skill=text]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill] at 15, becasue I'm spending 5 energy every 4(40%=3) seconds.
But I tried using [skill=text]Consume Corpse[/skill] yesterday and it helps a lot in reducing the dependency on soul reaping, allowing me to put enough points in curses to have the conditions last a while.
Also the use of a hex for nearby creatures, is a nice energy and time saver.
And if suffering doesn't do much,
[skill]Ulcerous Lungs[/skill] is a tad slower, but a lot more effective if you have a team mate with [skill=text]barbed arrows[/skill] or [skill=text]jagged bones[/skill].
The [skill=text]"It's just a flesh wound."[/skill] idea is cool too, though I wonder what it does once its done inflicting deep wound?
Don't think deep wound or poison are very desirable self conditions for [skill=text]Angorodon's Gaze[/skill].
Does it [skill=text]Blood Ritual[/skill] and [skill=text]Order of Pain[/skill] a lot, instead?

^ Serious question?

Pain inverter isn't worth SV unless you have like rank 6 or 7.
But it is definitely a cool skill as it's not an elite, so you can couple it with stuff.
I wonder what it will do with signet of illusion at 12-16 illusion.

I have rank 7 Asura and it's nothing compared to SV.
Max damage is capped at 80 and it can only be kept on half the time.

my current build is (off the top of my head)....
1. open slot for cap sig/lightbringer gaze/other skill
2. Suffering
3. Feast of Corruption
4. Necrosis
5. Insidious Parasite
6. Faintheartedness (considering revising
7. Signet of Lost Souls
8. Sunspear Res sig.
this seems to work very well, i keep changing slot 6 as i never seem to need it, suffering, FoC and spamming necrosis seems to do the job very well, with insidious if they're a particularly hard W, or if i'm just feeling mean, and using SoLS whenever.
I tried going n/me and echoing necrosis, which was very cool, but seeing as i'm on an elite capping spree i needed an all-necro build, which has worked very well so far, haven't had many complete wipes that weren't a result of being stupid.
