Crafted Consumables
santaclaus66
Anyone of you actually checked the list on wiki ?
And paid attention to "Star of Transference" ?
I mean, use a skill point to gain a skill point ? Do I get XP along the road ?
Then I buy bunches from my ranger that has legendary skill hunter and use them on my para that is on it's way to legendary survivor .. basically for free.
Sorry, what's the point here ?

Wrong idea.
The staff of transference grants no XP. It just adds one skill point.
The single use is therefore the ability to transfer (at a small material cost) skill points from one character to another.
Why do this?
First: new characters. Low level characters gain skill points very slowly and only become useful after they have a certain amount. Using staves, the process can be accelerated.
Second: we all have lots of loose skill points now, since there is no need for them. However, now that you can use them to craft very useful consumables, things are different. You could eventually run out of them. Imagine you are a rich player that has lots of money and materials. You craft many powerstones of courage, but then find yourself out of skill points. Now, you can buy staves of transference from other players and presto: you can continue.

Only true for the harder to get consumables. Otherwise the character getting the star can get the consumable and put in storage for others at less material cost.
My one grip is the perfect salvage kit....explain to me why the Wisdom title tract is worth achieving now?!...will this drop the price of gold weapons now that mods can be taken out of one good weapon and into another with 100% success?

Well your not going to waste a perfect salavage kit to pull a +30 hp bonus from a requirement 13 non max damage sword. So wisdom/treasure hunter will help you keep that stupid sword so you can sell it to the merchant or what ever.

Not really a waste at 250gp and some material, especially if it had 2 decent mods/inscriptions. But my point was:
1.) It is kind of meaningless to go for the Wisdom title track now for its benefit.
2.) If you have an good older Factions or Nightfall gold weapon with a rare skin that you had made perfect, you can now take out all the mods and put them on a new rare skin GWEN weapon, then you can sell the older rare skin weapon. With everyone being able to do this now 100%, I would expect to see older rare skin gold weapon prices dropping.

Because the Perfect Kit is far less abundant (5 uses, requires skill points), normal salvaging will still be commonly used, especially for the cheaper items - so Wisdom still has it's uses. Although I personally don't think title track should have any statistical bonus...
And the Star of Transference is called that for a reason - to transfer skill points from one character to another.

Stars of Transference are pointless.
If you need skills on another character, go buy some tomes.
Hmm, 200-500g per tome... 250g + materials + cost of skill at trainer.

It's far harder to find some specific tomes than it is to get a star. I got one as a quest reward that I'll be hanging on to. Never know when I might need it.

Thx for the constructive comments,
a pleasure to read that some really know how to behave.
Secondly, it crossed my mind too, after my OP, that you could transfer them to new characters.
Still, that is really the only reason I see.
But thx for the enlightenment.

I mean sure, if you happen to have max wisdom/treasure hunter, you'd have only a 4% chance of not blowing them up...but wouldn't it be nice to have that extra 4% just to be ABSOLUTELY sure the item doesn't get destroyed?
Also, not to mention the fact that most of us aren't anywhere NEAR max treasure/wisdom. I've been playing for a while and the best I have is something like R3 Wisdom and R2 Treasure Hunter, which is something like 38% of destruction. Personally I rather like the perfect salvage kit. I'd rather spend the skill point and some materials rather then having to ID 10000 items and open 10000 chests.

I only use Powerstone of Courage for dungeon, that's it.
The Ressurection scroll is sometime useful there as well. Especially if u cowardly escape while ur hecnh/heroes scream and die lol

This is what I do in a nutshell. You may get plenty of high req golds from treasure chests, and you make up the cost of the perfect salvage with the sale of this item to the merchant after salvaging what you want off of it.
That makes up for the price of admission.

Unless they adda title for learning ALL skills, I see no point in the stars of transferece... other than selling skillpoints to other characters that are making tons of valor stones to go for vanquish and need some more points.

I use perfect salvage kits to pull the -5/20%, 20/20 Sundering, and other expensive, crappy mods that people insist on putting into everything out and reselling them to dramatically lower the price on my purchases.

PvE skills that require skillpoints (Luxon/Kurzick) cannot be gotten from tomes.
Elite skills cost more as tomes as well.

I still don't see why people insist on Sundering weapons at this stage...

i never carry a res on my warrior anymore.
resurrection scrolls ftw! Government Flu
I personally find the Star of Transference to be the most useless consumable because I don't need a level 1 character to have twenty skills right off the bat and I have no intentions to skill hunt with anyone other than my primary character.
Nonetheless, I'm sure a few people have gotten use out of these items, so it was nice of Anet to add it. TGgold

I'll probably use some as I want my main char to have all skills available so will get them all from skill trainers. To do this I need about 300 skill points and he only has 100 or so atm. My 55 monk on the other hand has about 400 skill points that he's never gonna use so I may as well transfer the ones I need onto my War. Seems quite handy for me Rizwan
theres a BIG point in making the star
transfering skill point form char to char i already got 659 by farming EASY! |
