Random Arena Quitters
bloodwolf2005
Hey, I'm new; just registered.
I searched for this and couldn't find it, so I'm either not doing something right or it hasn't been posted.
So, here's my complaint and my suggestion on how to stop it:
People are ruining Random Arena by quitting the match early! I am so sick of these people who join a Random Arena match and then desert the team, most of the time before the match even starts!
There is absolutely no fun in joining a match, having anywhere from 1 to 3 people leave the team, leaving you the option to either die miserably, or quit yourself. And I don't know about anyone else, but I don't join a match to quit. I join a Random Arena match, knowing the team will be, dare I say it, random, and try to do the best I can. *If one wants a super, uber, 1337, invincible team, one should go to Team Arena and assemble one there.*
Sorry for the soapbox. Here's what I propose:
When people leave, they lose a gladiator point. Plain and simple. I'm willing to bet the quitters are the people who only stay if they think their team can fly through 10 Random Arena matches anyway. So I say, take away what they're trying to earn and they'll think twice.
Conditions:
They lose a gladiator point for leaving as long as:
- The initial countdown timer is still counting down
or
- There is > 1 person standing on their team
Can anyone see a hole in the condition logic? Something I haven't taken into account?
Thanks all,
BW

If people get disconnected against their will, this could cause problems.
I know that's being nit-picky, but people will complain. I do feel your pain in this regard, I could never be bothered with Random Arenas for precisely this purpose.

I did think about disconnects (believe me; I'm using wireless).
But, Anet can't read if it was a disconnect or a blatant teleport back to RA?

They can, but if these kinds of solutions were made, people will pull their cables ect...

Now, in RTS games, this is a serious problem. All of the top players in popular RTS games usually disconnect their internet just before losing so their record can remain shiny and spotless. C&C3 is an excellent example of this, where in the beginning the top 10 had under 5 losses, some with 0.
They fixed it by giving the player that disconnects a disconnect statistic rather than a free ticket out of a loss. I'm not sure how this could be implemented into GW, however.

It is NEVER your "right as a player" to quit when you think you're going to lose. Losing a game that you're trying to win is a fact of life. You can't win all the time. A player that leaves a game when they are going to lose is to me, shockingly immature.
It's the RANDOM Arenas. When you enter a game, you take the chance that you might not be with a good team - that's your choice and you make it at that moment. You can't say that it's somehow OK to change your mind later. You're leaving your own team in the lurch, and taking away the satisfaction of victory for the other team. They are the WINNERS, they deserve a full win.
If you're not happy with that, like if you're complaining saying "they just won because chance put them in a better team, so I should be allowed to quit", then please, do us all a favour - leave the random arenas and don't come back.
Sorry, but the opinion you expressed there really touched a nerve. I hate early leavers in all walks of life, both online and offline. You're supposed to see something through to the end. Common courtesy.

This has been debated to death in other threads.

Lose 3000 faction, simple as that, Baltahazar doesnt reward quitters now.
Also, These... Qoute, Koss "Baltahazar Blasted" Bots are annoying, ive just gone through 6 RA losses in the row because i had a bot on each of the taems! A mending bot, a Strength and Honour bot and another mending bot in the same match, then another mending bot (Same one as the first time) then a Interuptor bot, then a bot with god knows what on him! its Unreal! i see them in RA alot, what can we do about this automated problem, ive seen bots with R2 glad titles!

Random arena is supposed to be RANDOM. Why leave from your supposed "sucky" team, when you might still have a chance at winning? I agree with most of the people above me. Especially Aaron. Leaving right at the beginning ruins the prospect of winning to the other team, if they even win. Just because your team has 3 Assassins all with a Naruto name, doesn't mean you have to leave in disgust. <_<

Random is random because you get random team, what a surprise, eh?

Then you're supposed to go to Team Arenas if you want "good team", genius. Random is random because you get random team, what a surprise, eh? |
Now, if players weren't allowed to leave the game, there wouldn't be an option to do so. Yet, players are allowed to leave not only random arenas, but team arenas, PuGs, explorable areas and they even have the right to log out. But now in all seriousness...
If someone wants to leave the random team they were given, then they should be allowed to. I rarely get angry when someone leaves because it only takes me a few seconds to enter a new game. I honestly have no idea what all the fuss is about when there are hundreds if not thousands of people playing RA around the clock.
RA is a gamble. You roll the dice, and if you don't like the results, you take another bet.
As for getting "good teams" in TA, some players may have the right skills, but not the skill to use them. Others might not be wanted for a particular team build and others search in TA for quite a while until a decent team is formed.

So it's okay to leech in AB, too?

Wow, clueless.
Okay, here's a question I should've asked in the beginning- how many times have you left RA match because there was no monk or you thought your team sucked?

This topic has been pointed out alot, and many quick suggestions have been made, some of them more or less flawed.
In one of the threads about RA leavers, Andrew Patrick (ANet employee) stated that something will be done to deal with the problem. Therefore all threads concerning this topic are being closed right now. I guess it won't take long until this one is closed, too.
One solution that i think would work can be found in the following thread: detailed suggestion for RA timer (closed)

Another rant about leavers in RA ... this seems to be an ongoin debate ... for awhile there we seen alot of it [posts on RA leavers] month or so ago and personally i havent had much " LEAVERS" in RA as some ppl describe though its a bit frustratin when they do ... however as its been said somethin is in the works to help this situation ... Recently before EOTN release we saw a glimpse of what they thought would solve the problem ... [ changin the way we get glad pts] whether or not that was the right idea who knows but the community gave feedback very quickly and we havent heard much since ... this brings me to believe they went back to the drawing board or ....They just told us to deal with if u dont like dont go to RA kinda thing.. BTW has anyone heard any words on the proposed changes still yet to come to the glad titles or RA?

I stick by my statements. You stick by yours.
I'm done posting in this thread.

Well, I am sorry for sparking debate. I only wanted to post a suggestion, lol.
While technically this post is on-topic (it was in my original thread), I would have preferred something more constructive. I said I'm a new user; thus if I do something boneheaded, help me out.
Back to the point at hand; I will admit I'm glad people understand my frustration.
Here's a new idea that I thought of reading a previous post by Government Flu:
Bingo! Disable being able to open your world map. Result: no more teleporting! Thanks, Govt. Flu.
And,
I trust Anet lives up to their word and reads these forums. I hope they read down this thread (even if it closed).
And, as Linh pointed out, even though I know she was using hyperbole, since there are 999999 threads already about this, this makes 1,000,000. That amounts to something, right?

Sadly, there's no easy way to prevent it. If there was, then ANet would done it already.

I'd like to see some of those leavers get punished (besides the fact that the next time I see em, I've normally killed them, let the monk rez them, then killed them again repeatedly.
