Why non-max gold drops in GWEN?
=HT=Ingram
I tend to agree on this point. GWEN is not a campaign its an expansion. there is no reason a lev 20+ monster would drop a non max purple or blue item... It should just be a variation of the mod quality on the color. Obviously a Max purple is usable for most. but a non max purple drop is a waste, and WORSE a non max Gold drop in GW:EN is absurd... But it happens...
I will say, at least for me, The chests seem to be in line with the areas they are in. if its a easily accessible chest as in right outside a town portal. More often then not its a pretty lame chest. as it should be... Its when there are locked chests down in like the 5th level of a dungeon where it has taken nearly an hour or more to get to it, that those chests being a non max purple is rather disgusting to see happen.. Most of the time its a quality chest, but I have seen people get very unlucky with these chests too... They should do a little loot tweaking in such areas. But I also understand the need to control obtuse farming exploits too... Its a toss up... I would like to see something better in place for hard to reach chests, but I don't want EVERY chest and drop in GWEN to be too good... It should be in line with the difficulty to attain the item. to avoid the inevitability town reroll chest farming exploits that require 0 effort and yet could end up being overly farmed if too much tweaking is done to benefit drops in GW:EN.

The thing that bothers me the most, is the fact that before I bought GWEN I was told by Anet/The Guild Wars team that with great challenge comes great reward...but they lied so far IMO.
I don't find a Non-Max dmg Non INS Gold weapon drop from a chest to be of any value to me what so ever. I get better drops from just about any NF chest, but I also noticed that we open Locked chests in HM, and in GWEN, and one would think that we should see a Tome or two drop from a locked chest...nope. What else can we look at here as the cause of these poor drops? Loot Scaling? Maybe, maybe not. Randomness of all drops from chests? Sure, but like someone said earlier these chests in EN should be regarded as a very high end chest, one that takes a 1,200+gp key to open, because apparently they are being spewed upon us as 600gp key chests, yet I need a 1,500gp Lockpick to open it?!?!
I feel let down, all this hype around GWEN got me excited for Non-max Purple's and crapy golds that nobody wants to buy. And that right there is a huge let down, we're talking big brother let down, New England Patriots Football operation style let down...cheated

Actually, I thought level 20 monsters usually don't drop max items even in prophecies/factions/nightfall. Then again I might be wrong....
I guess compared to some of the guys posting here, I am a lot luckier. I had at least 4 or 5 golds + 1 green (sword, I think rocktail stinger is the name) dropping during the normal course of play. I don't farm so all these dropped while questing.
As for locked chests, I opened about 20-30. I think 30-40 odd % were gold and retention rate was more or less the 43% stated. One of them gave me an R9 platinum bow! =)
Dungeons, I have cleared all the non-elite ones at least once. Selpuchre is the only one I did more than once. Got mostly some max golds and 1 green (hidesplitter dagger).
And fyi, I play a 2-3 hours daily on weekdays. Longer on weekends.

Normal mode everywhere is now a pretty sad thing outside the main story lines, compared to pre Loot scaling, it’s now; Walk + Kill - x% value of Drops = Boredom and Farming for collector weapons.

I dont mind the non-max gold drops, i know its suppose IS supposed to be a high level area, but it makes the max drops i get all the more pleasent. (Req9 Greater Sage Blade - 16ectos ftw.)
although it is frustrating getting a gold req9 sephis axe, then realising its worth nothing, cus its one point away from max.

Screw anet, not one gold drop for me so far and only getting shit, bloody anet bastards.Pathfinding in towns sucks too.

Simply explained.
#1. People complained that A-Net's idea of "challenging" monsters involved making them higher level, faster and tougher... but no smarter.
#2. A-Net try to make the enemies smarter in GW:EN and give them player-inspired builds... but make them lower level.
#3. Lower level monsters drop lower-level loot. Try going through the level 20 enemies in Kaineng and tell me if they drop maxed loot. I contend that they don't. The enemies need to be around level 24 or above to drop maxed loot.
Simple as.
I doubt A-Net will be able to fix it easily... to be honest. It'd involve re-working almost all the monsters in GW:EN .... which is no small task.

Hey, don't complain.. I've played since release, thousands of hours, and you know what? In all those hours, I've gotten max 10 golds from foes.. Really.. No rares or decent mods.. I have so bad luck, from all chests I've never gotten anything good, and I've opened 1000+ chests... I've had some luck with solo ecto farming and green farming tho, but thats it..
Zedd Kun
I think the best drop I ever had was a 15^50 long sword req 10, and I have solo farmed ALOT.. Anet hates me ^^

In other areas, when I do chest runs and get gold drops from high end chests (600gp keys), I always get max stat weapons.
In GWEN the gold to puple ratio are still similar to what I've seen in other campaigns...2-3 in 10 or so chests tend to be gold, but now keys cost more (lockpicks) and drops are not always max. The dungeon chests tend to drop max weapons but even this is not absolute.
Remember I am just talking about chests not NPC creature drops. It is true what SotiCoto said as far as CREATURE drops go. Lvl 20 creatures do not always drop max weapons, but high end chests should!
Either way I am fine and will continue to open every chest I run into!

I dont care to much about the monster drops being non max, that said, If I pay 1500gp for a goddamn key it better at least yield a max item, purple or gold.
I find it sickening that locked chests were put in GWEN and most drop non max purps. Why not shiverpeak chests or something else? Making us pay the highest price for the the pick (as opposed to a 600gp key) and we mostly get non max purple, it is infuriating at best.
BOO TO YOU ANET!

Level 26 and up monsters have dropped non max loot since UW on ... Jotuns are level 28 and drop non max items everytime. Lower level monsters seem to have the same chance of dropping max items as the higher levels ones do in normal mode ... slim. Perhaps that is why they lost they were using a junk weapon

As annoying as the drops are, I was just thinking that it wouldn't be so much a problem if there were better crafting options in GWEN. But you have to grind to get access to the weapons crafters and the skins they offer ain't that great.
Maybe it's time for a crafting expansion.

If you found a 10 - 20 axe you are rich. Axes have an upper low end of 7 when non max...

You have to be lvl 20 to get to gwen, a starting character can get to lvl 20 by the time (or right around lion's arch) and jump to gwen. I would not call these players high end players.....

Screw this, even lvl 20 monsters SHOULD drop maxed items, dont like it? go to hell with anet.

I've had about 10 golds drop for me from chests and monsters. The last gold drop I got was a max dmg. +7 armor against elemental damage w/ a 15^50% inscription. One of those mantid critters dropped it while I was farming Vanguard points this weekend.
They do drop.
However, I'm sick of the non-max whites that drop. I'm the kind of player that picks everything up, IDs it, and then merchants it. It's a decent cash flow, but the whites that drop in GWEN are almost always several points off max and that lowers their value by 20-30 gp instantly.

If Anet was worried about the market being flooded by max weapons.....about 2years to late for that...
We have been asking for better quality over quantity for a long long long time, Anet is just not listening.

Gold max and valuable items have to be rare or they wouldn't be exciting. Also, this is NM and as such abides by the same principles when regarding drops. QFT. Drops are pointless without rarity.

It would be nice to actually get to use and enjoy the new skins. They certainly aren't worth buying with HM coming eventually, and the fact that there's no such thing as a better new weapon...

That is inexcusable IMO! There is no reason for a dungeon end chest to give away non-max items.

I don't normally rant about stuff in game, but the other night I had a gloom shield dropped from one of the boss chest, r9 in str as well. So far so good, right? Everyone went gg, gratz and all that, til we jump back to our hall and I ID the thing.
Get this, it came with fire magic +1 (17%) and no inscription slot. I kid you not, I got a screeny as well. Now top that for a bad drop.

Ok folks this is simple. I don't get the best items and I work for what have and want.I run cathedrals because the chest is fairly decent. I do too think it is rediculous that the lvl 20 content doesn't quite meet the requirements (as far as drops) but life sux and its just a game that is replayable so mo get over it. I say this because I have given up hope that Anet will do much if anything at all to change so I take what I can get .

If everything droped max golds... then wtf is the point?!

Nobody is asking for everything to drop a max gold item. But for lvl 28 in a dungeon to constantly drop non max white items is pointless.
Let us get a couple max blue moddable, a few purple and maybe one gold/green from bosses at the end.
You would be hard pressed to find anyone that would choose 50 non max white drops over 5 max blue, 2 max purple and 1 gold/green for clearing a dungeon.

With the drops in GW:EN, the actual motto is more like...
With geat challenge comes pathetic rewards
If you want better loot, go back to areas in previous campaigns. Until they fix the glaring risk vs. reward problems in GW:EN, I'm sticking to the previous campaigns. Since giving up on GW:EN and returning to the other campaigns, my friends and I have seen vastly better drops, and our overall plat per hour rate has vastly improved as well.

Challenges in GWEN? Where? Challenge is subjective. Give them time. GW:EN is tougher than the previous campaigns... so it is clearly a step in the direction you want.... even if the step isn't as big as you'd like.
That said, there are some folks around here who wouldn't consider ANYTHING a challenge, no matter how tough it is. I'd say it is just a matter of over-inflated e-p33n.
