Hi. I'm relatively new to Guild Wars. I bought it when it came out and made a Warrior/Mesmer, but then abandoned it for reasons i can't remember. In my search for a PvP centric game, it brought me back here and I decided to give it a go again. But I dont know what proffession to take to start over. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if there were 6 character slots, but sadly there is only 4. I own prophecies only.
I want to know: what are the accepted PvP types for each proffession. example: Warrior = Melee Dmg Dealer. Ranger = Ranged Interrupt and so on. Just to give me a hand in deciding. Needless to say, I'm going to be PvP focused, but also want to lvl up rather than make a PvP-Only character.
Thanks in advance,
Choukou.

If you really want to focus on PvP you'll need the expansion packs as well, with it you gain more skills & professions. And you also get 4 additional character slots if you get all the expansions (2 for Factions, 2 for Nightfall and 0 for EotN), so that is another problem solved

The roles are fairly well defined by their own skillsets. There will be exceptions to this rule, such as R/W hammer, but generally (for pvp):
Warrior - Melee offense (no "tanking"). All 3 weapons are viable.
Ranger - Interrupts, condition degen, occassionally trapping
Mesmer - Caster shutdown (domination) or degen w/shutdown (illusion)
Necro - Primarily curse hexes
Elementalist - In higher level pvp, usually an air (blinding) or water (snare) support role. You'll some some fire eles in HA or AB's, where there can be more balling up. You don't see Earth ele primary much anymore, as people generally just put points into Earth for the ward skills.
Monk - Pretty self-explanatory. Smiting isn't particularly popular right now. Many monk bars will consist of 6-7 heal/prot skills, and 1-2 slots devoted to energy management or self-preservation.
