When trying to load into Guild Wars from the character selection screen I am encountering a code 005.
- This just started after the 9/13/07 update, worked prior to this update (yesterday).
- Ensured that both TCP ports 6112 and 80 were open.
- All firewalls/anti-virus software is disabled.
- Was connected to a router, tried connecting directly, still no luck.
- [Edit] After trying several different characters I was able to log onto one character in the Zin Ku Corridor (216.107.240.165), still no luck with other characters.
- [Edit] Was able to enter several zones with the one character, but once i tried zoning to Kamadan i encountered the same code 005.
Any further information/help would be most welcomed, thank you.

What's worse, it locked up my computer. On rebooting, I find my Window's registry all screwed up. My PC is completely hosed.

Same here, I have been mostly able to load into the last town I was in, but any attempt to zone anywhere results in a 005 for the last few hours. Sometimes it won't even load into the town in the first place.
My ISP says everything looks OK to them, and I've submitted a ticket to support with nothing besides the autoresponse back yet.

My husband and I are having the same problem. We have 4 computers connected on a network. After assuming it was a problem with our ISP we decided to do some further investigation today since we are still receiving the same errors. We are able to connect to and utilize Team Speak just fine as well as websites and other games which leaves us to believe it's a Guild Wars issue. My husband has gone to the support site double and tripple checked everything, disconnected and reconnected everything and still the same errors. This started for us also after the update. We were unable to play at all last night. Today I am able to log on once in a while with massive 10k pings. When we attempt to zone to a different area the screen hangs on loading and boom code=005 or code=058. We are unable to play. And are bummed. Please fix it anet. Hubby is contacting PlayNC tech support. *fingers are crossed*
I spent a long time today with a very active tech support guy named Christopher at PlayNC. There is still no resolution though he has me jumping the "general hoops" for troubleshooting and it's rather annoying.
To be honest, I really think they knocked something over in their network somewhere which routes a certain number of people because as Jaide said, she's having no troubles. We're just waiting for them to fix it--or as WoW players say: "Replace the hamster that runs the server."

Things cleared up for me earlier today for a while, but now they're back to just as bad or worse. Multiple computers, with or without a router, virus software enabled or disabled - all of it makes no difference, still loads of 005 and 058 and the game is unplayable. I'm also not seeing any signs of any problems connecting to anything except the GW servers.
I guess I get to play support tag instead of the game tonight, again.

same problem here.... I have also noticed that sometimes on load the box that shows "protect your account", "triple exp weekend", etc is not there- on reload it pops up- anyone else notice this? otherwise I am dealing with the same issues. I can get to the char select screen, but upon zoning nothing loads, and I get 005. I have checked all drivers, temp, firewall, modem, etc., all to no avail. I also sent the -diag file w an explanation to the official support site, and look forward to some response.I was able to connect a lil bit earlier in the day but was pinging @ 12000 and then froze. If anyone does get some answer to these problems please POST! =) I can't mark exactly when this started, but it was w/in the last day or so- no GvG for me

Things had cleared up for me during the day as well but since noon I have had the same problems. I am in Oregon. Just wondering, if you guys don't mind, where is everyone else from? I saw another thread about 005 where everyone is from Europe thinking it's their European servers and switching over to American? Hubby is wondering if it's a geographical problem?

I too am having this problem. Often the Announcement box doesn't appear and I have come to realize if that is not there, restart until it pops up. After that logging in and getting on a character is pretty easy. Going anywhere other than the Guild hall, however, is a different story.
I suppose it is a problem with something in the Oregon area as that is where I am from too.
Edit: And yes, Portland here as well.
