This is GW. Everyone HAS access to rare items.

'Rare' does not mean the only a few can get it. This is not Diablo II.
'Rare' means that the means to get it are not common, like lower drop, higher cost, only acquirable once in a quest, etc...

QFT.

I hate people thinking that FoW is bought through E-bay or by getting one lucky req 9 crystaline. MOST people with money (read, the middle class, not the super rich traders like Herbalizer) grind there butts off and sell thousands upon thousands of white items to merchants and SAVE there money to get rich.

....heres the thing...u started playing well after bnet began "leveling the playing field" ie like 98% of the items found in game are relatively worthless. Before inscriptions greens etc you could sell for example a req 10 15% enchanted fellblade for like 200k, req 12 15^50 1000k, you get the idea. They kinda reformatted pve towards title grinding over rare farming (isnt it fun!)..So...well its like JACKPOT! drops dont really even exist anymore so, yeah. Even the majority of ha chest drops arnt really worth shiz ne more either. Go grind norn points

I actually dislike ANet, but not the game. ANet usually do more nerfs than buffs, and most of the nerfs are relating to farming. They are trying to make the economy socialist (and I know it).

I've played for 16 months myself, and to this day I have yet to find a drop I can sell for 100k+. Oh well. :P

Including that one.
But no, seriously, that WAS posted in a Galie chat log a while ago. She would be in the position to have access to such game statistics.
Don't know if its still true (what with free NF treasures giving even the newest players a frew 5k every month).

Gaile did indeed post that, was a while back though.

Let me get my violin out and we can both sing sad songs of our yet-to-be good drops. Also, build sharing and overfarming has pretty much raped the utopian economy that we once had many a moon ago. Ah those were the days, eh? its a shame, but not a whole lot we can do about it without sounding like spoiled little kids. But thats life.

I've been playing for 20 months, and I've never bothered trying to sell anything for that much. Spamming WTS endlessly ftl.

Who is this "Galie" person of whom you speak?

The statistics did come from within the game. The "wealth" figure was interesting to me, too, and was factual at the time it was given, although it would change after Nightfall and an XP. The person who provided the info was ArenaNet Co-Founder Mike O'Brien and he did so in one of the old Fansite Friday articles. (I wish I could find it, but somehow they did not get ported to the "new" website. ) So yes, the total wealth of players was much, much lower than most expected it was, at that time. And I imagine it remains lower than people think it would be, even now.

I remember that article. It made me feel a lot better about barely having 2k at the time. If I remember right, it also said about half of the players (at the time) had less than 10k in their storage and characters combined. I would really love an update to that article. Sometimes I wonder just how many people out there have zillions of plat and ectos in their storages.

Hey, it could mirror real life. I believe I read that fewer than 1% of the (US) population controls 90% of the wealth. That is, the top 40,000 people earn more than the bottom 150,000,000 people. This is, by the way, the greatest discrepancy ever between those at the highest income levels and those at the lowest income levels. I could go into the 1820s, and the struggle between Federalism and Democracy, but I think I can predict a bunch of eyes glazing over, so I'll stop now.

As far as an update on those player profiles in regards to the game economy, I'll ask if we can update that sometime soon. It would be interesting, I agree.

A normal player can earn up to 1K (minimum) in 10 minutes... by Kilroy Boxing! collect and sell all drops!

An account lower 20K is for lazy or incompetent ppl

Note: At least I have 100 times more cash than them

Or... now here's a crazy idea... it's for someone whose goal in the game isn't to amass wealth. What's the point of having money in this game if you're not going to spend it? This isn't real life, there's no retirement savings, emergency savings, or anything equivalent. What fun is having 1000 platinum sitting in my storage account? Better to spend it on things to make the game more enjoyable.

My counter to your statement would be "farming is for people with no lives." Where's the entertainment value in playing Kilroy Boxing over and over again?

You've obviously never met Kilroy. Never a dull moment with that guy. :D
But admittedly, I am easily entertained by the simple things in life.

Here an interesting drop, that was in ONE run, and also it was the FIRST run, and in less than 2 minutes, enjoy:

I think the OP has a very valid question. There is a HUGE variance in the "randomness" of drops between accounts, as evidenced by posters to this thread. I also have 4000+ hrs with little to show in the way of "perfect" or green weapon while those I play with regularly have practically every green and occasionally get a "rare" gold item.

As for myself, I'm not looking for the "insta-rich" aspect of a highly desirable drop, merely the satifaction of actually getting one. I don't think it's unreasonable that a player that's logged thousands of hours should have picked up a few rare weapons along the way.

However, the seeming "account" nerf extents beyond merely greens and golds. Many players overall drop rates are comparative dismal to others playing in the same style. So again, Anet why is there a huge difference among accounts?

NOTE: It's interesting the Gailie's post(s) in this thread had absolutely no relevance to the OP's question.
