We pay Arenanet a monthly fee to give us better drops.

Well I barely get good drops myself, but as an example... I managed to buy 4 new armors in EotN in roughly 10 days (and some people in even less). Yet I haven't gotten a single drop I sold at over 20k for maybe 6-7 months now. I get ectos, shards, the perf mod I salvage off a skin no one buys, I find materials... but I save my money for stuff I really want to buy. There was a point where I farmed about an hour a day, at about 10k/hour. Rest of my cash comes from random drops I sold for 5k... 5k... another 5k...

Hey, that's 15k! Now I can repeat it again until I've got the amount of money I want!

Just save up. It gets so easy. I went from 700g to my name to 115k in 2 days selling junk in LA and Kamadan. Ok now I'm back to 2k (lol) but I'll sell stuff and in a few days I'll be back on my money.

Oh, and just to say I think the "randomness" isn't the right word here, because everybody play different, and the game actually change that "randomness" per individual play style. I have many evidences about, for example that drop posted above was in Nightfall, and was after I farmed +50 times a boss in Factions, and this isn't the first time I saw it, it's impossible to be something random, that is forced by the game to promote not play the same place again and again.
