Paragon vs. Dervish

What should I play?

Both classes are very intresting, both of them have their pros and cons but they both work in a completely diffrent manner.

I'll try to list the pros and cons of each proff. through my point of view, and I'd appreciate if you'd help me choose which one suits me better.

Paragons:

Pros:
- High armor
- Ranged
- Supports with various chants (something I find very nice)

Cons:
- Very limited number of attacks (as far as I saw), seems like a auto attack and buff spammer. I like the idea of spamming chants, but I really can't stand auto attacking class.
- Weak? Unwanted?

Dervish:

Pros:
- Cool clothings and weapons
- Avatars look nice

Cons:
- Melee
- Looks very messy with all of those enchantments, and almost every skill seems to remove one
- Damage output?

Those are some points, but the most important thing is which one do you think is more enjoyable? Both leveling and progressing wise. Will I enjoy playing a Paragon? Is it fun, or will I be a nothing more than a backseat healing monk-ey? Same question applies to the Dervish, will it be a messy uneventful class or will I have some action?

I value fun and overall enjoyment as very important.

Though Paragons are more oriented around teamplay than Dervishes, they are by no means an "autoattack class". You will juggle spear chucking with chants and shouts as a Paragon. Dervishes are aimed at dealing area damage, but also have a few nifty tricks to support their party. Yes, enchantment shuffling looks messy, but you can create some highly effective comboes. I enjoy playing both classes, though I do find my Paragon a bit more fun due to my inclination to team support.

Basically, it depends on what you want to do. If you want to get up in people's grills and swing a huge scythe at them, choose Dervish. If you want to chill in the backlines, support your party and throw a few spears at the baddies, roll with a Paragon.

EDIT: Oh, and if people won't invite you into a party because you're a Paragon or other "secondary class" (read: Dervish, Assassin, Ritualist), you're better off without them. Especially now that we have nifty, nifty heroes.

By auto attack I was trying to say a auto attacking class, I'm very aware of the chant spamming, but do you really get a lot of action with your spear?

In addition, are they any good as DPS? Are Dervish?

Paragons are capable of running high DPS builds with spears, not to mention they can keep up an IAS indefinatly, so its not all auto attacking and using shouts.

Paragon is god mode compared to most other classes in pve. Playing one requires little to no skill (pve) and you can get through everything with simple technique: aggresive refrain, blazing finale, call target, shout untill everything is dead. The only thing that shuts you down is vocal minority. Dervish is much more complex class. It's not just "warrior with scythe" as most people think and requires different builds and tactics for almost every area.

Personally, I didn't find Dervishes to be very fun. Paragons on the other hand were fun from the get go and is now my favorite class. Try both and see what you prefer. I recommend paragons though, they're hella fun.

paragorns can be nice condition spreaders, almost as good as the ranger, with barbed and burning spear, go ranger secondary for apply poison and you got yourself a BA ranger without an elite, higher armor and a constant IAS :P you will lack the interrupts but gain party boosters instead.
paragorns can also use spears for pure dmg, cruel spear, mighty throw, wild throw, etc and even have good variaties for non elite dw, merciless spear and vicious spear(especially combined with GftE)
heck you can even go BiP paragorn and be very successful...
and I didnt even go to the overpowered PvE only skills that will soon get the nerf bat...
paragorn is a very flexible yet underestimated class, you will be a very big addition to a party but most PuGs wont take you because they misunderstand the power of the paragorn.

dervish on the other hand is a versatile melee class, lots of enchantment choices and other skills, not neccessarily enchantment releasers, if you dont like the enchantment putting and removal mechanic you can refain from those completely... dervish can spread conditions like there's no tommorow, mass blind and cripple anyone? and it can also tank very very well, mystic regeneration, mystic vigor and conviction, and your other favourite enchantments, stoneflesh, SoA, whatver...

overall both are good classes, but arent part of the "5 man team" which includes a warrior, ele, 2 necros and monk. both are underestimated and misunderstood, and also wildly misused by most players.
but get used to it, if you're not 1 of the 4 classes in the "5 man team" you will suffer the same, sins, rits and mesmers are in the same club
