Guild Wars 2 on other operating systems

Currently I am running Windows XP SP2 in order to be able to run GuildWars. This operating system is far from stable with lots of lagging, freezing, rubber-banding, connection errors etc.
With the release of Guild Wars 2 supporting DirectX, I hope NCSoft reconsider releasing a version running under Linux or GNU-Linux. This operating system is far more stable and safe than Windows. Moreover, Windows Vista' s DRM support concerns me alot; turning Trusted Computing into Treacherous Computing.
Installing Windows Vista with Windows Genuine Advantage Support will let Microsoft control your PC to run programs they think it is suitable instead of you to decide what program to run.
I will never run Windows Vista and will switch over to Linux asap.

i think it's your internet connection that should be blamed, not windows XP. poor internet connections cause lag, rubberbanding, etc.

also, GW runs under DX8, DX9, and is compatible with DX10. this basically restricts it to windows-based operating systems, as linux runs under OpenGL. GW2 will have DX10 support, which essentially ties it with windows vista. there is no changing it.

as for switching to linux, you can say goodbye to GW. even under cedega, GW is not stable. you'll have much better luck by improving your internet connection and keep running windows XP.

I am not sure who/what to blame, the internet connection or Windows. But I fear that more and stronger hardware is needed to run Windows. Please read about Treacherous Computing on this http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html. I am afraid Microsoft is using CPU power to control your PC instead of you. Moreover, please, read the MS Vista EULA: you don't own Vista, even if you legally buy it, you are leasing it. Therefore Microsoft is able and entitled to do with your system whatever/whenever they want, since it is their system and not yours! So they are in control of your PC, scary isn't it (see link at reasons why you should not use Windows Vista)?

Here are some links:

Hmm, strange... let me check.
My PC is running with an Athlon64 X2 on an ASUS Board with 2 Gig RAM. ATI VGA Card with 256Mb. I have a 16Mbits DSL2 connection, FPS 60 and ping 20 atm. That should not cause lags, but at the start of each gvg there was rubber-banding and lag spike. Please, help me to improve my hardware?
I am aware of DX8 to DX10 restriction and therefore required Windows. I was only suggesting NCSoft to release a Linux Version, btw DX10 is overrated imho.
You are right about CeDeGa, latest version of 6.0 is still not stable.
If there will be only a Windows Version of GW2, I think it is time to look for another game.

GW, like any other multiplayer game, will "synchronize" the connection speeds of all the players to ensure a fair game for everyone involved. the usually small lagspike at the start of every game is normal. instead of blaming the game or windows, i suggest you ask your guildmates to get faster connections.

that site you posted was written in 2004. in the three years since, my computer is still controlled by me and not by microsoft. i guess their devious plan to take over the world has failed. it's not like anyone will let them to begin with.

Strange thing is that these 'small' lagspike also occure when I did hero/hench trying to kill Duncan the Black. I guess there was no need for sync with other guildies?
The site posted dated from 2004 indeed, but obviously you have not read the other two links dated in 2007. These two links just confirm the 2004 link.

They should support linux/mac platforms, period. There are plenty of ways to do that. Making the game dx10-dependant would be a terrible mistake, not only for lack of support for *nix platforms, but they would also severely narrow down their user base, as in two years time there will still be an awful lot of windows xp users, even more than linux users in my oppinion.

What reason you have for using platforms other than windows is an another matter, and completely irrelevant.

.... completely irrelevant?

I guess not. Most people dont like others come into their home and oppose them what to do; I am no exception to the rule, so switching to another operating system for sure.

As this seems to be more of a rant against Microsoft & Vista and not really a question... and that we don't really know exactly what operating systems GW2 will fully support when it comes out (no real info right now, apart from extra/added DX10 support)...

Thread Closed.
