Guild Wars on the cheap.

Hey all - I'm looking to get into Guild Wars and I was wondering if $30 is a decent price for Prophecies. That's the cheapest I can find a retail copy - Circuit City - but I'm always up for savings and I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something.

I'm glad to join the community and I hope to log away a lot of hours in Guild Wars.

$30 for Prophecies is a pretty good deal, considering that most other places sell it for 45-50.

prophecies is 30 bucks in the online store i think. I've also seen it for 30 in a few other places too. No less though.

I got all 3 campaigns in one package for $50 from Sam's Club a while back. Look around for a package deal.

Good idea! Plus, I've seen Prophecies way cheaper, although I can't remember where. Circuit City is not the place for good prices tho. Try Walmart, Target or one of those.

I know zipzoomfly.com has had Factions for like $19.99 for forever.

It came today - excited to play, but it's taking FOREVER to download the data for Ascalon, so I'm sitting here biting my nails. Is a 40KB/s download speed normal?

I would check around online. Stay away from used games, as obviously you cannot reuse a GW key, but I have seen varying prices on games as some sites which to get rid of stock for whatever reason.

If I can get $300 sunglasses for $30 on Overstock.com, somewhere has your prophecies (or Factons, Nightfall, maybe even GW:EN) for cheaper.

Edit: I did some looking and you can get Nightfall and Factions here for less than it's marked for.

Yeah, it can take awhile for things to load for the first time since it has to download all the data.

wow you americans get ripped off, over here it's £10 at most for any of the 3 campaigns

I got my copy of Prophecies for around that price - I found it in a bargain bin at Game. The best £10 I ever spent

If you are downloading everytime you change locations then add -image to the end of your target.

I shall explain.

1. Right click the GW icon.
2. Choose properties.
3. Under the shortcut tab go to "Target"
4. It should say something like "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\GW.exe"
5. ADD a space then -image to the end of that line after the quotation marks.
6. Click apply.
7. This will take some time but it will speed up the time between zones without having to load content everytime you go somewhere new.
8. Remove the -image to play. The game won't lauch with it there.
9. You could make a second GW icon for doing a regular image after each update.

Also, don't get run anywhere in the game on your first toon, it will spoil the story line and reduce the fun factor, IMHO.
