Mounts won't really work on most GW maps. And you would need the heroes and hench to have them too or they would get left behind unless they could suddenly run at super speed.
What would work would be something that resembles a Junudu transformation of the party. Everyone becomes a Lynx! A Lynx that can run as fast as a horse. GW already has the Lynx animation, so this would be easy to do.
The party of Lynx can then run very fast. Of course there has to be a drawback to Lynx form. Your Lynx is only level 5 or 10. Transforming removes any buffs you might have applied. You won't be doing chest runs on it.
If you lose 50% hit points while in Lynx form, you instantly lose Lynx form and are unremovably dazed for 15 seconds.
Now you have a "travel form." But what are you going to do with it?

/SIGNED *100000 for missile launchers.
warp drive animation for map traveling and a npc called Scotty instead of that stupid ship icon as well.

Seem worthless, and kinda too much like wow if you ask me.

I'd take prince Rurik a lot more seriously if he rode around on a horse all the time. Even if he STILL got his ass kicked. The unfortunate thing is; there's no point to riding a horse. The only benefit it could have would be QUICKLY mapping out areas, and even then, your heroes wont be on horses, they'll be trailing behind and dead, then you're a sitting duck. No monk, no tank, no anybody, just you and your horse, and a whole lot of death served cold with an umbrella.
I'm sure you could argue you'd make one awesome looking corpse though, there's no denying that.

Is bad idea IMO, we got the map travel.
Would absolutely ruin runners.
Needs more explaining, armor etc.

I think riding or mounting or some kind or ride is a definite in GW2. if when the game comes out and its not there, don't look at me, but I am speculating that there will be horses and beetles rides form the EOTN's concept art here.

5th picture, horses, 9th pitures (a boat), 11th picture a beetle
and 16th pictures (off topic) that looks like a pet fighting arena to me...

IMO, if you want horses, I understand Barbie has some pony adventure games out. And as noted, WoW has mounts.
This is an EXTREME amount of extra coding work (for a series that's essentially dead, I should add) with little payoff. Mapping is easy, runners are everywhere, and there's generally not so much space between outposts that you need a ride. There's always speed boost skills if you're just not going fast enough. How would they set up armor? How are deaths handled? How would it affect fighting/playing style? What are you going to do in the tiny, twisting, crowded streets of Kaineng?
I'd say /notsigned, it might not seem like a big deal, but seriously, if you've played any game where you ride a horse, you reach a point where you get so sick of trying to get the damn thing to go that you're ready for any amount of walking again. Plus, I like the travel and battle systems the game already has.

Age
The only way I can see this used in the current game is if it were treated like a Hero say Mr Horse like Zhed. You would select Mr. Horse and you and him would share the same bar except attack commands to the right like avoid etc. There would only per party to keep it balance with PvP .This skills you would have to select yourself as there would be only a few and they would be balanced not to be over powered.
I am not all for Horses or mounts in the game as I am a runner so I just to take a stab at that.I was just giving this some thought as it is much requested feature from a designers view.

This thread is so boring, and I still wanna ride a catapult instead of a horse.

*) They are only available in a very limited number of area's.
*) They aren't yours; you can't take them everywhere you like.
so, /signed on having mounts. (Not just horses, also more creative creatures)
Alicendre
/notsigned. With teleport and Asuran gates in GW2, we don't need mounts.

I don't see a need for a horse in Guild Wars. Well unless I was a runner now that might be nice Each zone is instanced. Not like in say EverquestII where everyone can be in the same zone at the same time. But even there we have Griffons and transport spires. No if I want to ride a horse I play EQII I'm happy with GW as it is.
But I love my horse lol

One of my favourite pieces of Guild Wars concept art features horses:
Although its unlikely we'll ever see horses in GW1, we might see them in GW2.
