I'm assuming you have a good reason for disabling the vBulletin search system, and for this thread I don't care what it is. I also ask that other posters in this thread hold that assumption in mind when posting here.

I'm not asking for the restoration of that search system. However the boardtracker system sucks completely. For instance:

- Its "advanced" search seems no different to its regular search.
- Its slow, even when it turns up 0 results.
- It can't find anything. For instance I just did a search for "favor" and after a long wait it came back with zero results. In fact I can't find anything that will get it to return even one result.

Personally I feel that we will be better served with an access denied message (like we get when trying to view someone's posting history) than a search system that wastes our time to produce nothing useful.

So I'm asking the admins here to remove the useless boardtracker system and instead replace it with an access denied message.

And for those that want proof of my 0 results for favor:

Boardtracker is moderately better than general Google search with the Site:http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum, due to being made for forums. It's up because it's better than nothing, and it really is better than nothing. Even though moderators retain access to the vBulletin search for use in moderation duties, I still use boardtracker when possible, and it works occasionally. It's hit and miss, really.

Just for the record, vBulletin search queries the database and is very intensive in resource usage, and due to both the size of the community, and of the database itself, the forum goes from timing out sporadically, to timing out almost non-stop while enabled. What makes things worse is that when the site is getting a bit wonky, and the searches yield nothing but a white screen, everyone, including myself, tends to hit F5 to refresh, which increases the server load, and reduces the chance anyone will be able to load anything, ad infinitum.

Anyway, I can see in the screenshot that you did get results, 366 of them, but they seem to have failed to load.
http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?i...rsearchmp0.jpg

If you're really netting 0 out of 0 search results, and this is not the case with your issue, check the url of the page you're on. It may say
http://blahblahblahScope=0blahblahblah. If the scope paramater in the URL is set to 0, then you'll receive no search results. I'm not sure why it occasionally sets it to 0, but it's been a common complaint in the past.

Additionally, Board Tracker 2.0 was released recently, though in a beta format, and I've heard it's more than a bit buggy at the moment. I believe they mentioned the ability to see your own posts (thank goodness!) and more refined search settings.
Even if we aren't able to re-enable vBulletin with the eventual server upgrade, hopefully, the improved boardtracker features will be worth the wait.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the OP, BoardTracker is horrible. The old search system was better, because I could search through users posts/threads, which was VERY helpful because often I would know who posted something, just not where. BoardTracker is also VERY slow, and that stupid dog picture just makes me mad, rather than make me want to wait for the search...

Just go back to the old search thing, at least it worked consistently.

Google search can at least return a thread when I know a quote from it. I've never had any useful results from boardtracker, even when it is working

I thought it would be something like this based on other issues guru has that seem load related.

http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?i...rsearchmp0.jpg Whatever was causing the 0 shown results has fixed itself with no changes on my end. So I'm thinking its a problem with the boardtracker servers.

Actually we have google ads on boardtracker. Well I'm not seeing them. All I'm seeing is the adds that guru has on all the forum pages.

All right, the vbulletin search is supposed to be enabled actually. But... there's a problem right now with modifying usergroups to make that permission stick so I'm working on it.

I was just about to post the same question. I know the search function is pretty bad, but I did find it useful for getting price checks without having to actually post my specific weapon.

I mean, come on. If you've seen 1 accursed staff, you've seen them all. No need for 50,000 different PC threads for minor variations on the same weapon.

the search button is still there, just below the "Log Out". It doesn't show while in a thread but shows while on the forum page.

but thats not the one i was talking about...that is forum specific search...i am talking of the one that searched the entire guru....and for all you naysayers...i liked the old search...it worked the majority of the time....and was quite beneficial for PC's and such

Well i did not like the old search that very much, but i did the job pretty much of the time.

For the people who want to use it go to:

http://www.boardtracker.com/search/

in the domain box place guildwarsguru.com and type your search string in the search box

I don't think it is updating anymore but well if you search for old threaths it works okay.

A guild mate of mine noticed search was gone and mentioned it a whiel back. I assumed he ment the built in search, but I noticed a few mins ago boardwatcher, or whatever hell it's called, is not available either.

Will we gain back a search function?

Edit...

Okay I'm stupid and tired, which makes it a bad idea for me to be reading both Site Feedback and Auction Feedback forums at same time. CAn someone move this to Site Feedback plz, sorry for mix up.

Is the reason why I no longer see a search forum link related to this? Personally speaking a bad search is better than none....

Put the search back in! I used it a lot for searching for items for sale, etc, etc. I know YOU might be better off with an access denied message, but A search IS better than NONE.

So, will the board search ever return? It was nice for looking up PCs without having to create new threads. I currently have 15 items, I'd like to PC and it would be nice if I could do it by searching.

I tried the board tracker search, but it can't find recent threads. I really don't want to know what my Celestial Scepter was worth last May. I'd like to know what it's worth today.

yea iono y the search option is so lowkey in this forum, i don't know how they work maybe but i see many forums with way more sense making seearch engines than this, and you're right advance and reg search looks the same even w/ taht stupid tab expanded, it doesn't even allow u to search a preferred board, it gives u some weird ass options like arts&crafts section!? wtf!

Yes, it seems to have ended up way down on the "to-do" list, but I'm sure it will reappear at some point. Hopefullly, it will be an improved search feature.
