So whats left for the next 1-2 years?

I'm still hoping that they will release 2 more expansions. One for Factions where they open up more of the map, add more dungeons and properly introduce you to the Sylvari. One for Nightfall where they begin to explore the East, give you more to do with all of the new races and take out the new dragon (if it's not part of GWII).
But with all of the work going on for GWII I'm not holding my breath.
My thinking is that in GW the world is only one super continent. So far we have seen the Central and Northern parts through Prophecies and GW:EN, the Western section through Factions, and the Sothern section in Nightfall. My hope is that with the completion of 2 more expansions the developers can provide more info on the new races and show the complete map of the super continent. In GW2 some catastrophic event has happened during the end of the last expansion that has broken the super continent into separate continents.

From what i remember reading was that GWEN was the last horra. The last expansion(campaign) till GW2. Now we might see some occasional updates, maybe a new dungeon or two, the mission pack bonus in November. They will try to keep us busy with the holidays and special weekends, then comes the third year mini's. But from then on will be about another 8 months or so with a blank spot....i see them having to put some sort of content in between that time. Probaly purchasable content via online store. I wouldnt mind as long as its new ORIGINAL armor or a way to better my characters.
I believe that they will lose the main player base about August 08. And then 2 months before GW2 is released, they will advertise GW2 with a slogan like "Do you have your Hall of Monuments ready?" They will probaly spam that advertisement until you choke on it, then you will relogg back on to GW1 and play hard for the next 2 months trying to get your HoM ready so you can play GW2.
We are all just guessing, but it might go something like that. I might be playing Age of Conan or Warhammer or something else along those lines. I am hooked to MMO's now.

So, what's left? Grind out stuff of course, battle the beasties, try out completely new builds and different hero/hench types. Wander the great landscapes too!
But you know, a while back I logged into the character selection screen and my eyes popped out - there was this phrase just under my character name that I'm sure I must have seen but never once paid attention to - it said, "Roleplaying Character."
What? Oh lordy, that's right!
There aren't too many folks around doing it, some, but too spread out to be an effective force. What could I do solo that would carry through a few years of GW? I tied together some things - I like the Norn, and I like writing so I decided to put together free Storytelling Events! Now, around the great fire at Gunnar's Hold, I invite eight folks to come into my group to hear tales of Norn prowess and adventure - and its been a rousing success! My ten minute-ish tales are original stories about the Norn, inspired by old Norse poetry, and are fun!
What's left? Hell, you haven't even started!

They said that after GWEN theyre basically throwing in the towel on this game and focusing solely on making GW2.
Grinding is all that there really is... so from now to GW2 every moment of your time will be devoted to this --->[leet epeen goes here]
Only 2 years left to max out all titles so you can do it again in GW2! hurryhurryhurrygogogoserpentine!!!!1111

To answer the topic, I guess you could say that I am fortunate. I do not have the time to finish everything in the campaigns as fast as others. Each campaign comes out before I am finished doing everything I want in the last one. So, once I finish all I want to do in EotN, I still have lots more to do in the other campaigns (I've barely touched HM, and only vanquished a few Canthan areas). But even that is way down the line as I have only done half the mission in EotN and only 3 dungeons. I may not be ready for GW2!

Basically wishful thinking on my part that GW is not done. It just doesn't seem done to me.
As for Role Playing my guild does a role playing event once a week where they start a chapter with a new character and they come up with their own background story for the character. They try to keep the groups together and work through the story line of the chapter until completion. Although I've never participated in this event (new to the guild and the playing time for the current event is during my night class) it sounds fun and the people who are involved seem to enjoy it.
By the time GW2 comes out I may be done with everything with my main character. Have completed all of the main story lines have alot of quest to go back and complete. There are all the titles to grind and other professions to take through the game so I maybe done with all of that by the time GW2 is out. Haven't made my mind up if I'm going to buy GW2 yet or not so I'll keep on enjoying GW until I make up my mind or they shut down the server.

I think we can look forward to whatever ANet can do for us that will not slow GW2 development. Because they are ANet, we can rest assured there will be something.
Mohnzh, I'm with you. I have a lot to do in Eye of the North bringing all my characters through between now when GW2 comes out. I have one of everything except two classes, so I need to roll those. Plus lots of things left undone in the three chapters.
Just me, I don't have a "beat the game" approach with any game. I don't even have a "play the game" (with the idea of winning or racking up a high score) approach. I have a "play with the game" approach, with the idea of having fun. So games are never finished for me and never really wear out. Heh. I still play StarCraft off and on and still find it fun.

Just take a break and play some other games. You would get bored to death if you insist to keep playing this game until GW2 comes out. Open your eyes and look around!

I will keep working on wisdom title ... at current pace of gold drops in Gwen I am on target for finishing the title around 2037.

remember, the original business plan was to release an expansion every 6 months. Well, 6 months went by, no expansion, so Anet released SF. That's my take anyway. I wouldn't mind spending $ for a new dungeon or area (or even for just new weapons, I already spent $5 for the GOTY weapon pack). But if history is any guide, Anet will do something to keep interest in Guild Wars between now and when GW2 is released. |
What makes you all think there will be no more add ons way after GW2 comes out? There maybe some players playing in GW still and not only that returning from GW2 because their char are lvl capped.

I'm thinking, and these are purely thoughts, but I hope they do some small content updates in the mean time. Like..some new quests, things of that nature, something to keep us entertained.

Couple of different things about playing other games than GW
1. We worry what is around the corner because we wish to continue playing GW. We want more content and more things to do so we can continue to play and enjoy this game till GW2 or beyond.
2. We only complain cause we care about the game. Alot of complaint threads out about GWEN and so on, how else is Anet gonna know what is bad or good in there game.
Now there are a couple of different games on the horizon i will be playing, not too many mmo's to keep me occupied, Hellgate, Conan, Warhammer, Quake Wars, ..just hoping that i wont get to the point where i will have to put down GW. But i think what i posted before will be true. That they will use some catchy marketing phrase that will make you want to logg on GW a couple of months before GW2 comes out.

I don't think I'll be hitting 'nothing left to do' for a while yet.
Monk Solaris
Whats left for the next 2 years? You lucky Gw players. A rewarding title grind. Playing your little hearts out for months watching title numbers slowly creep upwards so eventually one day you can tame a rainbow phoenix (which will probably be nerfed).

I wonder if it's possible that GW2 will bomb because people are too burned out to start all over, while wanting GW1 to continue. If so, I wonder if this will cause more support, releases, and improved programming and graphics for GW1. Not to jinx GW2, but I wouldn't mind this scenario.
Heck add a while Second World-ish expansion and aspect to GW to really make it last year after year after year.

taurus999s
My guess is they will raise the level to 100 or so. And all those who played GW1 will inherit some weapons that's good for the first 20-something levels. This will allow the vets to coast through the easy bits i.e. using skills, heroes and etc.
After that, probably around L30+, everyone will be on the same footing.
I can't see Anet giving every veteran player a max character just because they maxed out their GW1 char.

Summary

Because its copy-paste
Summary
Gaile hopped on to answer some questions before GW:EN went live.
- Error 173 means the store is really busy, please try again later.
- Not likely to be another new expansion, but updated content for GW:EN.
- Andrew may be pushing the team for an emote for the Gladiator title.
- The customisation process for miniatures in the Hall of Monuments may change to allow account use rather than character.
So i hope they will add alot of new content to EotN, i think the dungeons will be easy :P

The sheer fact this game has last 2 years already is very impressive! I think we should be greatfull for that amount of time.
Symeon
It's been 2 and a half years, or 3+ for some. There's still 2 left. That is a long, long time to wait with no major new content to purchase. Free updates (new areas, dungeons, skills, armor) would be great, but from the clearly very moderate effort that ANet put into GW:EN, I think their resources are now truly focused on GW2.
I predict that I'll go into a 'bored of GW' phase around Christmas. Which will mean a lengthy break for me until GW2 betas.

Well from what I understand the beta for GW2 won't be starting until the 2nd half of 2008 which means anytime after June of 2008. It isn't as long as some may think but yeah it will be a bit. I am glad we will be getting some updated content for GW:EN. It will just give us more stuff to do.
