Do ppl still DoA?
SuperDave
Apologies to the mods if a similar thread exists, i tried to use search and got nowhere.
Anyhoo, I was curious as to if ppl still do DoA. The reason behind my curiosity is this:
My buddy and I did SF and got the Eternal Conquerer of SF statue in HoM. It looks really neat displayed next to my other accomplishments. So we decide to do FoW. We then get pwnd by typing /resign after finishing all the quests and the EC of FoW statue isn't available for display in the HoM. This made us very sad.
We then boldly decide to take on the infamous DoA. Both of us have very little experience here (apart from mindlessly burning the crap out of everything with Searing Flames). Our stay in DoA was short lived in the past, and we both played Elementalists, which neither of us like very much.
Back on topic... I play Monk mostly, and my friend Necro. We then continue to discuss strategies, work on builds, and head to DoA to find a good old PUG. No one was there. The place was completely empty (EU english d1). Playing on the US server is really annoying on account of bad LAG, so we don't consider that an option. We both connect from the Southern Hemisphere. I have to add that we tried this at 5am. But still.. I've never seen DoA empty. Is everyone out there dungeon sweeping?

DOA felt like a farming run to me, but then a farming run that owns you when you make the slightest mistake. Elitist people that call me a noob instead of giving me the right build (I am UAX after all :P) do the rest. DOA is very unfun imo. If I want to farm I'll play tombs, musch more relaxed.

People doing dungeon sweeps.
PuGs (and many veterans) do not know how to kill mallyx head on (which could be avoided in the past), so they don't replay the area anymore.
Farming for gems making the individual area rewards not worth the time to replay it if you cannot kill mallyx after doing it.
Those are probably the reasons why.
Give it a few months and the drive for the Ape statue will bring pugs again once they figure out how mallyx is killed by others.

It (just like all other areas that arnt in eotn) have seen a decline in players, but just like deep/urgoz/tombs/SF people will be back.

if they would add henchies to DOA i would go and H/H it. Otherwise i stay away at this point.
not worth standing around forever while a cookie-cutter pug is built, plus having to use vent/ts for said pug (which I find makes no difference in rate of failure or success).
i would actually like to do more DOA, just really tired of trying to group for it.

i dont stay away from DOA because of the difficulty.
i stay away because it takes too long to group, and to get a competent group.
i have about as much success as any very experienced fire ele has in DOA.

Yep. Deep, Urgoz, DoA, Practically all the fun places I'd visit to go play the game in, are now dead, and 6 feet under. The Deep was my most favorite personally, I just always had alot of fun in there.
But honestly I'm wondering how GWEN is keeping people occupied for this long, I'm already bored of the dungeons since long ago lol.

I just beat NF yesterday and headed to DoA just to check it out. I was disappointed at the lack of people there. Luckily I was able to get into a group and we did the City in HM, which wasn't really that hard btw. Its because of GWEN and HM in general.
SeraCombi: What are you talking about? When I got into the pug yesterday Vent never even came up. We communicated well w/o it and we did it in HM. Heck...there were 2 other DoA noobs and we did just fine. Vent is really just a social thing. Competent people don't need it to succeed. *lol* I knew it was time to move on when ppl in Tomb started requiring Vent for HM, which I find much harder than DoA HM so far.

Well my attention to EoTN has expired, I still need to do Foundry and kill Mallyx. I play as Ele so whisper me in game if anyone wants to do foundry, I have got to the 2nd part of the area but then someone leaves and we couldn't finish the area (happened twice now )
Finding good people is tough and my former guild never did doa

The last time that I did DoA was in March or April. Having done it for 3 months straight, I got kinda bored of it. At the time I stopped doing DoA, many of the regulars (veterans) of DoA also stopped doing it. Now, I have no desire to spend 4 hours in the foundry for gems that aren't worth anything.
As far as vent/ts, we used it because it was easier to talk than it was to type. Is it overrated for doing missions.. well, some say yes and some say no. I'd say yes if you were in a group with immature teenagers who only use vent/ts to call u a noob or to tell fart jokes while belching every 30 seconds.

By chance I toured the city this morning with a guild mate and heroes. Still good fun and a nice change of pace after the EOTN dungeons and fun to apply the EOTN skills.

I went to DoA last weekend to take screenshots for fun and noticed only a few other people there. The chat window had cricket sounds. The zone had tumbleweeds blowing by.
Thank goodness because I hate people being in me screenshots.

Players named [SMS]Racthoh and yesitsrob still do. Nobody else.

Frankly I have never enjoyed any of the *Elite Areas* as when I played before you were depending on HoH to get you permission to throw away a k every entry just to get smashed in the front of UW. And I was so pissed off at being forced to beg for entry to other areas cotnrolled by factions I quit playing completely for about 9 months. So far not impressed with any of them. They have never been worth the effort and at the moment I see no reason to ever try to play them.
You can't see me
People always stray toward the easier things in this game.
I see the cycle going like this.
1. Release of GWEN. People start moving to the GWEN dungeons. Places like the Ooze pit become popular hero/hench places for the above average player.
2. GWEN becomes in the norm. While the prices have gone down on the rares, people are still going to the GWEN dungeons because instead of worrying about 8-12 different people who you don't know the skill level of, you can now worry about that with 2 people and 6 customizable heros.
3. GWEN dungeons become the majority. (We are now in this stage) People go toward the dungeons a lot more, and ignore the other elite areas in the game. UW/FoW/Urgoz/The Deep/DoA. This is agian over shadowed by the lack of reliance of PuGs, which everyone likes, and thus the other areas are abandoned.
4. The Scales of Supply and Demand start to Tip. Things that were once over farmed become more in demands. Zodiacs and such, which do not drop in GWEN, but only in Canthan elite missions. Those prices will hike back up a little, and people will start going back to the dungeons outside GWEN. (This could be debatable, being that some new skins could over shadow the zodiacs and bump them down a few notches, but we don't know this yet.)
5. Stabalization. People start going back to Urgoz, the Deep, and DoA because those skins are no longer over farmed, and now we have a nice mix of GWEN dungeons, DoA, Urgoz, and the Deep, and thus things go back to normal.
This is what I predict to happen, not saying that it WILL happen, but It's the most likely to happen in my eyes. Again, it's not set in stone and it's very debatable, but as for the elite areas being ignored, I have faith that people will come back.

The fact that the Torment weapons can't be displayed on the monument, and Destroyer weapons can, might have something to do with it.
If i could display Torment weapons on my monument, i would be there all day at DoA. But it sort of seems a slap in the face when you can't display Torment weapons.
(Hope Anet changes that in days to come)

who wants to waste their time on domain of anguish? its one of the most boring and stupid area in the whole game.
Gregslot
I hate doa because its all about experience, but most of the people who play it dont have any slight notion of what experience is and use pre-made builds, wich is far behind my personal level.
Im one of those people who play as an assassin at Urgoz/The Deep at HardMode so i know what im talking about, if you dont know how is it like, dont bother
