I've been trying this for the last few days off and on with my warrior. I'm not having any luck beeting the spirit spaming griffon. Anyone have any suggestions or builds that I can try.
Also post any non war builds too so that other people can get help too.

i used a war/nec with Grenth's Balance, life siphon, heal sig, bleed attack, deep wound, and a few others i forget them all, but you have to drag him to you, attack him, DEG him, he doesnt heal all that much. just keep him away from the spirits and keep away from them your self,
there is one spirit that will int you all the time, stay far back from this one all the time. GL it was a harder one to get done, but it was fun times

I'd like to see a tank/scythe build with banishing strike. that should hurt him. a lot.

I used the very skill I refused to use in the Shards of Orr : Sight Beyond Sight.
I just stuck that into my Critical Agility / Critical Defenses / Way of Perfection Moebius + Death Blossom spammy build. It was enough to defeat the griffon even in the midst of his spirits.
Not a warrior build though...
Honestly... I'd recommend trying similar though.
Find some sorta stance or whatnot that allows you to evade attacks... take a non-interruptable self-heal... and an IAS .... Go secondary Rt and you can use Sight Beyond Sight.... and you might well manage it.

Anyone recommend a Ranger build?
puffzilla
I went W/R and took the asura Ruby summon. I just kept poison on him and stayed away from his spirits. GL

Yeah having problems with my ranger to, ive tried a trap build, a variant of the famine farmer build, tried to get as much degen as possible with poison etc etc but no luck.
i may try burning arrow, apply poison, screaming shot and toxity spirit

I recommend Any/Rt for every class. Spirit spam him right back and watch him die.
It's the easy solution, it's the logical solution, it's the working solution.

let him spam spirits, he runs out of range, kill. stancetank should do.
also sometimes he can get stuck in a wall and won't do anything after patrolling..

Apparently you can glitch him into a position where he won't attack at all.
It is a sickeningly cheap tactic and I wouldn't do it myself unless I had no other choice.... but the option IS there.

This was during the preview weekend so I dont know if it's still viable, but I was able to beat him with the R/P Packhunter build with Feral Aggression in it. I was limited in PvE skills though so if you have Ebon Vanguard Sin Support or the Asura Summons it'll help out a great lot.
What I did was basically let my pet do all the work, then if he's blinded I run in to cover for the lack of attacks. Feral Aggression was possible because it was easily maintainable but now I dont know. The idea I am trying to get across is that you want to keep as much npc support as you can bring in this fight, since 4 possible allies is much better than just you.

Burning arrow, apply poison, pin down, needling shot, troll ungent, some (hard) interrupts.
Try to stay out of the spirits. Go into the spirits to pull him if you must. Once he's out, pin down to keep him for awhile and degen his butt. Interrupt spirits if you can. After he gets away, troll any damage, kill loner spirits that are in your way, and pull him again.

My rangers build for this one. Screaming shot ,Pin down,Oath shot ,Distracting shot,Troll Unguent ,Natural Stride,Whirling Defense,Dwarven Stablility
Keep Degening him , Pin down Griffon if you need to regen ,Tank the spirits with whirling defense with the extra length from dwarven stability, Interupt Shadowsong and Dissonace since these will screw you up.

if you're a warrior, try this:
Enraging Charge
For Great Justice!
Flail
Eviscerate (E)
Axe Twist
Agonizing Chop
Disrupting Chop
Distracting Blow
You put up enraging charge and FGJ right as he spawns. Ideally you should be ON TOP of him when he spawns. You can begin to Flail->Eviscerate->Agonizing right away his first spirit
then interrupt the others
Axe twist him every once in awhile so he does 5 damage a hit and just keep interrupting and raping his face.
ftw? Instead of the other gimmicky builds people want you to use.

My w/e used a fire staff with Volfen blessing and stood behind a rock. The staff volleys the volfen attacks. Didnt take very long, but was the first way I could beat the griffon after several tries with different skills. I wanted to beat the griffon with a build that no one was suggesting. I like to be different and i play very unconventional.

Wow, you all have such long and drawn out plans on this guy... easiest way I've done it on a warrior was going /Rt cause EVERYONE knows the only way to kill a Rit is to BE a rit lol, took consume spirit, flail, distracting blow, heal sig, grenth's balance, and some attacks i think (it's been a few weeks) Very easy becuase he attacks in melee as well so he spams spirits where he is. Basically if you see him get off a spirit, hit tab and consume it and go back to attacking. Even with 20 energy you should be able to keep it up for a LONG time.
CHUIU
Warrior build: Sword warrior with grenths
Non War build: Spirit spammer, lead with wanderlust
Non War build: Spirit spammer, lead with wanderlust
Kale Ironfist
Grenth's Balance
Final Thrust
Healing Signet
Shield Stance
Defensive Stance
Wary Stance
2 Optionals (I had Riposte and Deadly Riposte)
Attributes: 12+X+1 Swordsmanship, 12+1 Tactics
Was what I used. Take the spirit attacks until you're at half health or less and balance the rit. Enter Wary Stance to become immune to the spirit attacks if you have to. Use GB until the rit is below 50% health, then pummel with Final Thrust. Heal when necessary. Use Ripostes on recharge, but when I did beat the boss with this build, the Griffon got glitched and didn't move or use skills while walking around the area (although the spirits were still in range).
Then again, this was during the sneak peek weekend, although I don't think anything has changed.

As a Warrior I took Conjure Phantasm (12 in Illusion Magic) and Healing signet (13 in Tactics), lured him up by the gate where I spawned...... and stood there casting and wanding and healing until he was dead.
He only put down one spirit at a time while I was doing this and it took about 4 minutes.

I lured the beast behind a rock and used the arc of my bow with poison degen it to death. The arc that you can hit griffon and its spirits can't hit you.

Tried the quest with a modification of some generic PvP- style Burning Arrow build I had a template for, beat him in a few minutes. The key skills were Burning Arrow, Pin Down, Whirling Defense (to avoid hits from spirits), Mending Touch and that Norn health regen skill.
If you're doing the quest with a warrior try bringing something to deal with blindness (he spams Shadowsong, right?) and whack the griffon with Hundred Blades or something to damage him and kill off any spirits he's dropped at his position already.

I did this yesterday with my necro. I just went secondary rit to play him at his own game and loaded up with spirits (vampirism, pain, anguish & wanderlust) & painful bond. I also threw a summon spell in for fun (naga).
I just started planting spirits while the start timer counted down, then pulled him with painful bond and kept laying spirits as they recharged. After a while he ran off into the corner near the hill by the entrance. I just kept planting spirits on the hill and hitting him with painful bond until he was dead.
It was quite fun actually.

I took him out with alot of degen and by pulling him away from spirits.

I used Burning arrow, Apply poison, life siphon, vamp gaze and just degened him. Keep out of range of his spirits and you should be just fine.

This "stay out of spirits" strategy did not work for me. When I managed to damage him a little he just run back to the other side of his spirit fortress and wouldn't pull until he regenerated! My monk failed with smiting/deadly arts/ranger builds miserably. I killed him with ranger skills when he got stuck on the rock.
frickaline
for my derv I ran mostly as a ranger since they kill him fairly easily. Same would probably work for any char class that ran ranger secondary.
practiced shot
apply poison
hunters shot
you move like a dwarf
faithful intervention
mystic regeneration
distracting shot or pious haste/storm chaser
mystic corruption or fav winds or a run skill
stand on the hill to gain height advantage, use a long bow. apply poison, hit him without skills until he moves on you. when he's 1/2 to 1/4 range, move like a dwarf, practiced shot, hunters shot, run up the hill. Try and run before he starts to lay spirits so he doesnt put any up. If he erects a few, kill them with practiced shot and repeat this.
