After counting 38 purples in a row, I haven't really bothered anymore. Lockpicks are a bitch.

Not worth the effort. I'd rather use them somewhere else like during SS/LB runs for chance at an elemental sword.

eotn chests are nothing but arenanet's new moneysink. I fell for them on day 1, haven't touched them since.

While I've never really ran chests, I usually took keys along for whichever area I was in. However with the EOTN chests I was barely breaking even when I merchanted the drops (and lets face it, >90% of chest drops are merch fodder).
So I say back and looked at how much I've spent on keys vs how much I've gained from selling the chest drops to merchant or other players. I'd of gained more gold in that time if I didn't buy keys, and merched the keys I did acquire, even taking into account the rare expensive drops I've obtained (like a req 9 15^50 stormbow which got me over 100k).
So I've decided that I'll never buy a key or lockpick from a merchant again, as its not worth it. I'll use the keys I find though.

Recently I've seen people making teams in eye of the north for hearts of shiverpeaks (hos) chestruns. I have bothered to join one. It might just be a regular dungeon run. Looking in wiki it says that elemental swords drop there, might have something to do with this.
Maybe someone can shed a light into this.

I did a couple of Heart of the shiverpeaks chest runs. I got some decent stuff out of it... gonna sell that magmus staff though... got myself some onyx an diamonds out of it too.

My last two lockpick drops were:
Greater Guardian Spear (Purple)
Greater Guardian Spear (Purple)
No kidding. Same dungeon/area too - one after the other.
I identified both and guess what?
Same Inscription - both had +13% while in stance
No mods on either.
I took screenshots if anyone doesn't believe me.
I haven't had much success, so I'm not running any more chests, unless the drops get better..

The best drop I've got from GW:EN so far has been a gold req 7. 14-20 damage Fellblade.
Had a 20% enchant on it, so it wasn't too bad. Drops as a whole have blew nuts so far. Prayin' for Hard Mode!

It's getting through the dungeon (usually people run through it except the last level) and everyone kegs the last boss. then we all take a dip into the chest o.O nothing but golds baby!
but i swear on my LIFE i got a purple once from one of the chests.. i forget which one x.x i think it might have been murakai's

Even though I have a 53% chance to retain a lockpick while opening a 600g chest, it's pointless to bother hunting in Eye of the North at the moment. If I wanted a fast run I'd go back to Prophs.
Plus, the few chests that I've opened have yielded nothing of any importance.

i had some lockpicks when eotn came out... decided to use em up and was realy disapointed at the drops
but i did get a r9 15-21 ele sword from one of the mobs in magnus stones so its not all bad

Wow do people actually do chest runs in EOTN? The best thing I got was a req9 fire magic staff with perfect mods, no fancy skin though, just good hero gear. If the drops would be worth it I would do it, chest density tends to be pretty high in EOTN.

I just opend all chests i saw with my ranger, so far i got some of my best drops from Sparkfly Swamp (Good chance of saurian scythes

People just whine about the drops in short term. I bought like 100 lockpicks. I have retained more than 50% of them, goes right with the chance. And I have received like 50 gold items, don't know drop rates, but I'm thinking that those goe kinda right. And yes, I still have like 20 of those lockpicks with me.
Edit: Did my runs from boreal station to the first explorable. Some chests in dungeons etc. Some chests while clearing magus and alot of them in snowman dungeon while grinding deldrimor points.

Ahh yes, forgot to mention. The keys cost me umm... 150k. I got over 20 left and I had over 250k. Sold items etc. etc. Alltho, thats including drops from end chests, like mursaat polymock from duncan. But overally, as I have plenty of mods + items still to sell, i'll be like 100-200k on positive side after those lockpicks.

the fact it was NOT MAX is sort of the point people are making as to how stupid the drops are atm. if an ele sword drops, it should be max. no questions asked. it shouldnt even be an option for an ele sword not to be max. kinda silly...

Gold Summit Warlord Shield - Vloxen Excavations (Many chests in there but I only had two picks and of course they break all the time)
Went to Slaver Exile with a totally unprepared team H/H just to check it out and was able to flag and decoy my team so I could run for a chest I found. (gold Dragon Spire Staff) Not really running chest just openning the ones I can (I should say "afford" )

The closest thing I do to chest running is The Sep dungeon. Kill boss for 1.25K and either a gold or a diamond.

The drops from EotN chests have been horrible, as everyone has already pointed out. I'm getting 80% purples. But I still waste my lockpicks while I'm there simply for the chance at good items for heroes and it still ups my lucky/unlucky titles. The high chest density helps those a lot. I'm not making profit from the chests themselves, but I still come out a little ahead from questing and doing missions and dungeons and fighting mobs.

Got an onyx, some golds and a green shield for my paragon. It's kinda profitable but really I'm only in it to open chests along the way for lucky/unlucky/gold title, and to get more unid golds at the end. It's not exactly a fast run tho cuz you still gotta take out all the oozes at the end for the big chest. Our runs took maybe 15-30 mins depending on how we were doin at the end or if all our runners died before zoning to the next level. Thankfully anything that comes out of that chest is useful to me, even crappy golds since I can id it for title and then merch it, so yeah the run is useful for me. But I'd hardly call it uber profitable as say Duncan running before it was fixed by ANET. One of the guys running with us said he did like 40 runs and wasn't making much out of it. So if you're out to get money..... the HOS chest run is kind of a lottery and the average player won't make a huge amount out of it. But if you're like me working on lucky/unlucky/unid titles, it's better than spending a day breaking lockpicks on grapes. But you can do that too along the way if you bring some lockpicks heh.

People just chest run in DoA it is easyier than EotN chest runs and yields much better results. But in EotN I find the the chests in Asura areas tend to be best for me.

I've had quite bad luck with chests, and most of them have been old skins. The best chest drop I've obtained in GW:EN has been a gold Guardian Spear. I've actually had more golds from enemies than chests, and mainly in the Cathedral of Flames, where I got some gold, max dmg Stiletto's.

I dont run chests, but I had lockpicks on me so ---
my first 3 tries were all purple junk. So I gave up for a while, then I got some from a quest so I thought 'hey, why not' finally went with the chest-by-boss theory and got 2 gold items and another worthless purple (in that order with one pick, which broke upon getting the purple The other picks I have gotten have been given to my toons who are going for the ss points---HM in nightfall profits tons better than anything in eotn.

chest running in normal mode isnt such a good idea. unless youre going for lucky or treasure hunter titles stay away from normal mode chests.
i think ill wait till gwen hm comes out before starting any sort of chest running in eotn.

Ok this is what ive been doing ive been going to dungeons like the ooze pits or the dungeon in doomlore shrine and the one with the antiquitie at the end cant remember the names but you catch my drift..i take lockpicks and open chest along the way but dont really care for much of them basically im playing the game normally but as fast as i can found i can do most of these in 10-15min...I've gotten all my best stuff from the end chest
and nothing really exciting from any others just bogus grapes mostly not exactly running but if its time for money i think i'd stick to this witchburner

Devotee of Wisdom (3) 25 chests opened 14 retained and 11 broken 7 gold all max but 11+ req and only 1 really sellable 10 purple max only 4 below req 11 (2 9's) 2 sellable 2 purple runes....bites...esp when the lockpick breaks 6 non max purples chests were opened in all zones as I played through the game with my main no rares and only 4 max mods, lots of 1 off's I have 23 lockpicks left and I think I will save em for HM and it looks like I had better luck than most |
