FPS drop for no reason

I have a Core 2 Duo e6750 @2.66ghz, 2gb RAM, 768mb eVGA 8800gtx, and SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS. One of the guys in my guild has the same amount of RAM, same type of video card (but different brand), and a slower processor. In a dungeon my FPS dropped to about 48 and he said his was fine. I run vsync with a refresh rate of 60hz.

Also in a couple places int he Asura territory distant objects would nto appear and land would look bad until I got closer. The same guildie said he coudl see the stuff fine from a ways away.

We are using the same graphics card drivers so I don't get it. Any idea why I get big FPS drops like that ?

you are looking a few things but it should be related to either drivers hard drive.
Change your swap file size around double your ram size min and max. Update drivers. you can run performance monitors to see what is going on when you get the reduction... there are many tweaks you can do but if it isn't that big of a deal why worry about it. It seems like a hard drive issue because of the loading.. it is the weakest link in a chain.

I was having the same issue ... found out because i was drunk i forgot to plug my notebook into the outlet and my computer reduce performance to save battery life.

What OS are you running.

I use WinXP Pro. I also have good colling in this case and everythign is brand new, well about a month but still thats new. All other games are fine. My pagefile is also low when I run the game.

Guild Wars is weird with framerates. I fluctuate between as low as 30 and as high as 120 at times with no changes in my settings, no relationship to being in busy districts, etc. I've just kinda accepted it as being part of the MMO experience at this point.

I've noticed the framerate in Guild Wars sometimes drops a little during heavy network lag. Of course, it's possible the network lag is just a symptom of something else, and that's what's causing the FPS drop, too.
