Client Crash... maybe?
Bibblenorn
I was just playing like normal, trying to clear sparkfly swamp, and all of a sudden, the client froze. I could minimize it, put it into fullscreen, and bring it back to windowed mode, but it wont do anything. When I bring it from minimized up to fullscreen, it will move until I try to do something, then frozen again.
I have added nothing new in months to my computer. This is happening for no apparent reason.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the problem that support refuses to admit exists!
Bibblenorn
I managed to replicate the problem, purely by accident. Sparkfly Swamp again, and the same rez shrine (South east corner). I am not sure if that is coincidence or not though.
I have noticed that (on that map, as it is the only place it has happened) if I keep it in full screen mode, I can simply alt-tab to desktop, then back in, and it unfreezes. Trying this in windows mode does nothing.
I don't think it is a resource issue, as I have a really nice laptop. I can usually run GW at full graphic settings, while in windowed mode, with Windows Aero still enabled, and I experience little, if any, lag or graphics errors.
Dell Inspirion 9400
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz
2 GB RAM (DDR2 667)
NVida GeForce Go 7900 GS
I really don't think I have a problem on my end though.

I've been experiencing something like that ever since the GW:EN preview weekend: sometimes the graphics just freeze, while in-game sound, voice chat, and anything else running on the computer continue working as usual.
Whenever this happens Guild Wars starts putting such a massive load on the CPU it often takes me several minutes to get the task manager open, but after it starts I can just kill GW's process, making the comp perfectly responsive again. I usually just press the reset button, though; my computer boots up in less than 25 seconds, taking less time than starting the task manager.
Using Windows XP on a computer with an Athlon 64 3000+ ("Venice" core), 2 GB's of DDR400 RAM and a factory-OC'd GeForce 7900 GS from Gainward. Seems to run every other game just fine. Latest non-beta drivers installed, of course.

lordpwn,
That's exactly the same problem I've been experiencing since the EotN preview weekend. Nearlt the same sysyem as yours too, although I have a Athlon64 X2 4200+ 'Toledo' CPU! Same system RAM and graphics card though (Gainward 7900GS 512MB).
Not a single problem with GW up until EotN content was added.

For awhile now (and until I reformatted my comp and updated my graphics drivers) I would get the exact same freezing problem when I went into the northern shiverpeaks (not EotN area, Proph). I figured it was that my driver couldnt handle all the snowflakes or something. Try updating your Video Card drivers and let me know what happens.
LivingDeadGrrl
I have updated my video card drivers (nVidia GeForce 7600GS), and sound card drivers, turned off antivirus, dumbed down Zone Alarm... and STILL, GW will either crash completely, locking up my PC, or as others have experienced, sound continues sporadically, stopping and starting at will, I can move the mouse but then it will freeze for a second, none of the characters on screen are moving, and I can't get to my desktop so I end up rebooting.
PlayNC support was LESS than helpful btw.

having the same problem here. Game will just crash, sometimes with sound looping.
Only started with the GW:EN full version. have updated all drivers, windowsupdate.com etc etc. Still crashing but I can play other games with high detail without a single hitch.

Those of you with dual core cpu's try setting affinity to 1 core that has fixed the problem you mentioned.
I have a quad core 6600 use to crash like that in certain spots does not do that anymore.

1) Uninstall gw
2) run full virus/spyware scan
3) run scandisk/chkdsk
4) run full defrag
5) update all video,sound,chipset drivers
6) check inside your computer is cpu caked with dust, i have sooo many customers that have cpu's/video fans so clogged it over heats and crashes
7) check the capacitors on your motherboard they should be perfectly flat
like this:
a bad ones looks like this:
This can cause games to crash
8) reinstall gw
if gw still crashes replace your power supply.

My sis just bought me a new video card (my nVidia), and I cleaned out my CPU when I installed it. The capacitors are just fine. I'm only running a single core CPU. I have a [email protected] Thermaltake power supply. Have updated drivers, and run defrag, and scanned for viruses, the only thing I haven't done is reinstall GW.
Why?
Because if I take the time to reinstall the entire game and it still crashes, I will be pissed, plain and simple. I've read other threads on here where people have taken the time to reinstall and run into the same problems.. honestly I just don't have that kinda time when it's not a method that has been proven in this instance to work.
There are too many people experiencing this issue for it to just be a case of needing a clean GW install IMHO.

I had another freeze like the one I described in my earlier post. This time I didn't try to kill the game's process or reset the computer as some noted it would eventually hang completely.
Well, after a few minutes, it did. Followed some time later by a blue screen with a STOP error code involving Nvidia's nv4_disp driver. Since this is happening on so many people's computers and thus isn't some isolated hardware fault I think GW:EN does something unusual (not necessarily anything wrong, just rare enough no other game does it right now) and some bug in the Nvidia driver makes it grind to a halt.
Maybe some new video driver release will eventually fix it.

Some posted about Nvidia crash - they reverted to 90.XX driver and seemed to work.

I seem to have the same problem, only my game freezes(4 times this week) and my pc reboots by itself. It doesnt matter how long im in the game, it happend wenn i was a few minutes ing, next day it happens after 2 hours of play. Doesnt matter what chapter or character either. Seems to happen once a day(wenn i play offcourse), since this week.
Did all the standard stuff, defrag, virus/spyware scans, mem test, videocard diasnostics, windows diasnostics, temperature checks,ect.........nothing of this all helps(or seems to be the problem). All other games run fine ,no crashes. Only thing i can think off is that i run, old nvidia drivers(version before the last). This is because my bf2 crashes on the latest ones
Its not a big problem, reboot takes a few seconds and reconnecting were i left off is possible. Although if i was doing any coop missions, i would feel guilty, if it happend.
mzzls
ps. ill try the latest drivers again, hope bf2 will run on them
ps1. i run a 7900 gs too, from asus
