Account theft?

I went away to college, and decided today that I'd like to resume playing Guild Wars. I downloaded the client, and attempted to log in, and it says that the email address I used to use for my account isn't valid or something along those lines. I tried support on the GW official site, but there was nothing there about account theft.

I found that thru google, and in the forums search there is a dozen posts that will link to support.

No one here can help you, and no one here is likely going to really care. I know its harsh but everytime this happens we get players crying and ranting at the forums when they need to be contacting

The password was sufficient enough, I do believe. It's not the password that's causing the issue. It's the email address being changed. I didn't change the email address, so it had to have been stolen. Is there a way for me to get it back or am I basically effed? :\



Oh, and if support had something directly related to account theft, you linking me there would be helpful. I've looked there, and there's nothing about "hay sup dooshbag stole my account, LoL!", so I came here hoping the community has some decent people, which by the looks of it, it does. So any help is appreciated.

yeah it can happen if someone knows your account info.
I had that happen to me before, my friend knew my account and password, and since I don't check my email often, he was able to get it. I think if you don't check your email within 10 days or 14 days it might happen.
You should contact support anyways. This happened to me over a year ago, but they had me type in the Access Key for the game (this was before factions came out) and I guess that was proof that the game account was actually mine? Anyway, then they changed it to the email I emailed them and a reset password.
That's all I can say, that and don't have an easy to guess password/don't tell anyone your info.

Oh yeah I tell you what I'll even contact support and get them to reinstate the account... FFS, don't be lazy.

The community can't doing anything to help you besides pointing you to support, we have done that for both Anet and NC.

See the main problem is NO ONE here can tell you if you account has been stolen, and no one here can change your current problem.

How about sending of a ticket and asking Anet for help and what options you have.

Don't be a jerk just because 99% of the people on here cry about stupid shit all the time, it doesn't mean everyone is.

If someone gets something of theirs swiped, or even if they think it was, they are going to get excited, look for answers and may not follow the most logical thought process. As when your stuff is stolen (or you think it is), you may not be in a position to step back and think carefully. It isn't a matter of being lazy. What you can do as a member of the community is either be supportive or just not post.

Anyway, to the OP, I hope you have your access key written down somewhere, you will need it when you contact support to get your password reset. The reason it's the access key and not the email, is so that the person with the physical possession of the key owns the game, whereas emails can be hacked.

did you use .com instead of .net or something - (i did that many times)

also, if you want any assistance with this issue, your only option is to go to GW support and submit a ticket and sort it out with them. they are the only ones who can assist you.
