rare drops in Ascalon??
reetkever
I've been wondering if rare (gold) items drop in Ascalon??
From I've seen, rare items start dropping in the Northern Shiverpeaks (from the Summit Beastmasters), but I've NEVER seen a rare drop from a Charr or any other creature in Ascalon, people are saying they used to solo Nolani Academy, and that rare items used to drop there, but I've never seen a rare drop in Nolani, or any other place in Ascalon. Maybe I'm just very unlucky but I just want to have this clear ^^

generik
5000 gargs and not a single rare, got a couple black dyes tho
Swehurn
I'm with the OP - the earliest I've ever seen a rare is Yak's Bend.
Viruzzz
i think technically you can get a rare anywhere. the chance is just extremely small.
i've gotten purple drops from gargoyles (not armor though, only weapons)

Lord Of Losers
i got a gold from a place above fort ranik, forgot the area, dont go there anymore =P
Maxiemonster
I think the only place where it's impossible to get a gold item is in Pre-Searing. I've had a couple of gold armors in Post-Searing Ascalon, if that counts too

My bf had a gold armour in the Nolani mission in the last beta, and I got one in the Surmia mission way back in the first week of play. So unless they changed it since then, it's possible.
avoll
You can get gold drops from a big group of charr that are under a bridge.
Ive got gold weapons there a few times, of course there never max damage but never the less there gold.

Diablo???
never even had a purple drop until boris pass... but i did find a black dye dropped from a lvl 0 aloe seed in preseer.

I can confirm rare drops in Nolani academy. I used to get a couple every run(solo) when my monk was just a wee lil lad...usually from the ghosts in the bonus section.
That was a long time ago though, dunno if they're still dropping there on a regular basis.

I have only gotten purple drops which really arn't that great, some runes from the armor, but never a gold item. If your looking for Gold LA and up would get you some gold.

Don't know about the ascalon chests though...if those can drop golds that it
dimirpaw
Never have for me and I have opened about a 100+, just purples for me.
Konrow
chests have a tiny(i mean tiny) chance of dropping golds in ascalon and the chance starts getting higher the more expensive the key gets
zidergirl
I have seen a sapphire just outside ascalon . is that the sort of rare you mean?
and a fair few silver dyes
and a fair few silver dyes
phosho
does charcoal count as a rare?

I'd say Gold items in and around Ascalon are just as rare as Silver/Black dyes and Charcoal. Ruby's, Sapphires, and Monstrous Items are just crazy rare anywhere.
I've got 800 hrs in of playtime(and no i dont' leave my game idle), I've found ONE Monstrous Claw, ONE Sapphire, and ONE Rune of Sup Absorb.
Only major thing I haven't found is a Sup Vigor.

I got a gold 6-22 war hammer from grawl outside of Sardelac Sanitarium...still have it (nostalgic..sp? value)..

I had a couple Rare drops outside Frontier Gate but only when we were doing the LDD mission. One Sword req 11 and a Ele 13 Req staff. That was it nothing prior to that in Ascalon Area.

I had Black Dye drop with the first character I took to Pre-Sear with the first monster I defeated there (Gargoyle). Not much since then. I think the drops are also based on character level and the number of times you have run through an area - something to do with the nerfs of months ago.

While I have not found a Gold in Pre-Searing, I have gotten a couple Silver & Black dyes (each) there.
